| BRASILIA, Brazil — A fire swept through a crowded nightclub in southern Brazil early Sunday, killing at least 245 people and leaving at least 200 injured, police and firefighters said. Police Maj. Cleberson Braida told local news media that the 245 bodies were brought for identification to a gymnasium in the city of Santa Maria. That toll would make it one of the deadliest nightclub fires more than a decade. The cause of the fire is not yet known, officials said. Officials earlier put the death toll at 180.

I put this piece through Google translate. It says the fire was caused by a firework show inside, same as happened in the Rhode Island club fire a few years ago, and the bodies were hauled off in two big trucks guarded by the cops or army to keep relatives away. It says the cellphones in the pockets of all the dead bodies are ringing ´incessantly.´ How sad.

It says most of the dead were college students and the club was operating on an expired license.

Too many potential code violations here to go over but I´m guessing the place was way past its occupant load and the back exit doors were locked for ´security´ reasons. If you, your friends or your kids go clubbing, make sure to tell them to check the exits if they want to live. Owners frequently chain exits.

A 51-YEAR-OLD man is due in court today accused of the murder of Colin Greenway in Thamesmead. Mr Greenway, 56, was pronounced dead in his ground floor flat in Abbotts Close at around 2pm on Saturday afternoon (June 15). Police arrested Daha Mohammed, also of Abbotts Close, nearby and yesterday charged him with the murder. He will appear at Bexley Magistrates’ Court this morning.

A MURDER investigation has been launched after a disabled man had his throat slit in a ‘brutal attack’ in his Thamesmead home. The victim, who has been named as 56-year-old Colin Greenway, was pronounced dead in his ground floor flat in Abbotts Close at around 2pm yesterday (June 15). Yegor Borisov, head of the Sakha Republic, a vast and sparsely populated region of eastern Siberia, has called for an urgent cull of wolves after the predators swamped populated areas in a search for food. The local government has announced a three month "battle against wolves" to be launched on January 15. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria.
