| First things first: the Second Amendment to the Constitution is simple and clear. The version of it that was ratified by the states reads as follows: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Following the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, President Obama and a host of senators and congressmen launched an all-out assault on so-called "assault weapons", high-capacity magazines, and gun ownership in general.

Those who push the Second Amendment sometimes forget that phrase "a well regulated militia". That does not imply 2 year olds. That does not imply psychotic individuals or people with Alzheimers. There are limits under the Second Amendment. The challenge is to define those limits in ways that do not abridge the rights of the many, but keep weapons out of the hands of the few who cannot reliably be entrusted with them.

It´s time to use the arguments of the left. The second amendment is SETTLED LAW. They love to use that phrase with the abortion issue. It means the issue is closed. Try using the term "settled law" with a liberal and when they squirm ask them if they feel the same way about abortion rights. Alinsky tactics can be used both ways.

With ~300 million guns in circulation, there´s nothing the government can do to keep guns out of the hands of the few crazies that won´t abridge of the rights of the many. Better to be free and prepared to stop the crazies in their tracks when they show themselves.

Exactly. If you start talking about hunting and recreation, you´ve already given away the store. The lefties, who talk about how "militia" only means militia, not individuals, are overlooking what it really means -- it´s our protection against what they want government to be.

#1, In 18th century English language, "A well regulated militia" meant in modern English "The whole of the people, well set or prepared for the task of defending themselves". If left uninfringed the second amendment is self controlling.

#3 nails it. The nut jobs are not always evident right away. Our only viable option is to be able to respond immediately when they do become evident. Sadly, some people will become victims. Either they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, or maybe because they relied on the government to protect them. Is freedom worth the loss of life? Was it worth it in 1776? 1812? 1861? 1919? 1941? A couple dozen other dates? Are we to the point that freedom is no longer worth the price? I don´t think so.

The left keeps pretending two things (and that is exactly what it is a deliberate pretense). First, that the Second is about hunting and second, the right to bear arms springs forth from the Constitution due to the Second Amendment. The express purpose of this is to prevent the public dialogue from ever coming to the core of the issue. The Second was put in to preserve the natural right of a free people to defend themselves against tyranny. WHEREVER it might come from. All patriots and freedom lovers should keep hammering on this and...JOIN THE NRA.

Re: #1 - "Those who push the Second Amendment" were actually the same folks who pushed the first 10 amendments, known as the Bill of Rights. That BoR includes the First Amendment, which protects your psychotic rants as you point the finger at those whom you cynically wish to portray as crazier than thou. The "pushers" had come out of a bloody revolution where loyalties had been divided within the former colonies, often pitting neighbor against neighbor. For folks of your ilk, the challenge is to find enough red herrings to distract a populace being criminally disarmed so as to ease the imposition of progressive rule. Nothing in the proposed disarmament policies pushed by your fellow travelers is meant in the least to have a positive impact on violent crime. We all know that so quit pretending otherwise. The degree of resistance you will encounter as a usurper of a fundamental, if not bedrock foundational citizen right, will be shocking.

Three quotes from within the article:
~~George Washington: "Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people´s liberty teeth and keystone under independence ... from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable ... the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that´s good."
Thomas Jefferson: "Those who hammer their guns into plowshares will plow for those who do not."
George Mason, co-author of the Second Amendment : "I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."~~

The phrase in the 2nd Amendment that is ignored the most is "shall NOT be infringed". Not "unreasonably infringed" or "subject to common sense infringement". I think that Scalia meant that if one person could carry (bear) something, it would be constitutional.

I´m still waiting for someone from the Ruling Class to explain exactly how disarming law-abiding citizens could possibly make us safer.
Unless, of course, "us" refers to the highly paid, above-the-law jackbooted government thugs the Ruling Class uses to enforce it´s tyranny and/or violent, predatory common criminals.

If the ruling classes want to take our guns away from us, we should tell them we will give the up just a soon as THEY give up THEIR armed security guard´s guns. And that includes the secrect service persons. Only the military is to be allowed to have guns. And then, only when they are sent into combat.

The death of 20 children and 6 adults is tragic; but they had all experienced love before going to God. But the 23,000 children murdered each and every week, unloved and unwanted, is even more tragic. I weep, but no longer pray, for this Nation.
It would have been better had a few teachers or administrators had been armed. Many fewer would have died at this Monster´s hand. But Monsters will always be with us, and we should be prepared.
Good quotes to ponder:
"No Free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." (Thomas Jefferson)
"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe." (Noah Webster)
"I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for few public officials." (George Mason)
"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike especially when young, how to use them." (Richard Henry Lee, 1788, Initiator of the Declaration of Independence)
"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." (Thomas Jefferson)

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will appeal a federal judge´s ruling that his agency systematically singled out Latinos in its trademark immigration patrols, marking the first finding by a court that the agency racially profiles people. Tim Casey, the lead attorney representing America´s self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in the case, said an appeal of the finding that the agency racially profiles people was planned in the next 30 days. The decision by U.S. District Judge Murray Snow in Phoenix backs up years of allegations from Arpaio´s critics who say his officers violate the constitutional rights of Latinos

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric Holder’s fingerprints are all over an FBI warrant that authorized snooping on Fox News reporter James Rosen, the Justice Department confirmed yesterday. The FBI warrant that sought Rosen’s private e-mails as part of a leak investigation and called him a possible “co-conspirator” in a crime was authorized “at the highest levels of the department, including discussions with the Attorney General,” according to the Justice Department. “The Department takes seriously the First Amendment right to freedom of the press,” the agency said in the statement, saying it took “great care” in deciding to

WASHINGTON— US President Barack Obama set out Thursday to redefine the US fight against global terrorism. But despite calling for a more targeted and not "boundless" theater of global operations, Obama left the specifics and timelines for action, by which his success or failure can be measured, out of his big speech. Here are some critical questions Obama did not raise or answer in the address at the National Defense University. Guantanamo Bay timeline-Obama renewed his call for the closure of the Guantanamo Bay camp for terror suspects in Cuba. But he did not provide

Schools and police stations were burning in Stockholm as violent riots continued for a fifth consecutive night. Emergency services were called to 70 separate incidents, including two torched primary schools, burning shops and a destroyed library building also housing a local police unit. Despite police claiming that the situation is beginning to calm down, critics say the riots were unavoidable after years of widening social gaps in a country which has the highest proportion of foreign-born citizens in Scandinavia.

The lawyer picked Thursday to succeed Patrick Fitzgerald as Chicago´s U.S. attorney is a former federal prosecutor best known for taking on corrupt politicians and powerful institutions such as the University of Notre Dame. Zachary Fardon would take over an office that has made its mark nationally by putting crooked government officials behind bars but increasingly faces pressure to do more to help in the fight against Chicago´s violent street gangs. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

WASHINGTON —In a dramatic departure from existing White House procedures, President Obama requested today that his staff start cc’ing him on stuff. “Look, I know a lot of you think I’m really busy and you don’t want to bother me,” the President reportedly told his staff in an Oval Office meeting. “But cc me anyway.
