TORONTO — Canadian immigration officials have denied U.S. actor Randy Quaid´s request for permanent resident status in Canada. A Canadian government official confirmed late Saturday his request for permanent status has been denied. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. Quaid can appeal the decision to the federal court. U.S. officials last year refused to seek extradition of the actor and his wife from Canada to face felony vandalism charges in Santa Barbara, California, but authorities in the coastal town

Comments:
No, Canada doesn´t want you, Mr. Quaid. He was memorable as Lyndon Johnson, though, mainly because he looked so much like Johnson.

Regrettably, he´s also not welcome on Oriental Avenue, either. Nor on St. James Place. As soon as he was kicked off the B & O, his fate was sealed.

Guess you have to be a draft dodger or an islamic extremist to get residency status in Canada.

FTA: The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

General observation: haven´t any of these anonymous sources figured out that "not authorized to speak publicly" means shut up? The "sources" that are real people, not those made up by media types in need of worn out fig leaves to let the newsies opine "indirectly."

Specific comments:

#2: France named a street for "Mumia" the cop-killer, and had people pushing for his release, too. And they shot at D-Day troops coming ashore to liberate their country. [I´m talking myself into campaigning for "Freedom Fries." Yipes.]

#4: Good point. Maybe they should take JB back, and keep Quaid as a reminder not to send us another JB.

So his roles in the National Lampoon movies weren´t caricatures after all....

Canada won´t take cousin Eddy ("now that there is an R.V.")?

The Giswalds always have room at their house plus Illinois will give an illegal immigrant a drivers license.

If you want to watch a really stupid, but comical movie, try ´not your typical teenage movie´ where Randy Quaid is the father of a h.s. girl.
It has all the elements of a typical teenage movie, but with heavy handed satire that works. It even has a humorous racial component.

In a strange true-life story that seems ripped from TV crime drama (rather than the other way around), a New York City man was kidnapped and held for ransom for over a month, before the NYPD rescued him this week. Pedro Portugal was grabbed off the street in broad daylight on April 18, and held hostage in a Queens warehouse (pictured above) while a group of men attempted to extract a $3 million ransom from his family in Ecuador. Police in both countries (with the help of the State Department) tracked down the kidnappers,

WASHINGTON —In a dramatic departure from existing White House procedures, President Obama requested today that his staff start cc’ing him on stuff. “Look, I know a lot of you think I’m really busy and you don’t want to bother me,” the President reportedly told his staff in an Oval Office meeting. “But cc me anyway. It’s good for me to keep up on what’s going on around here.” “It’s not good when I turn on the news and they’re talking about something at the White House and I’m like, whoa, when did that happen?”

Amid catcalls from a Leftist heckler too blitheringly stupid to understand her dream was coming true, President Obama yesterday declared his intention to end the War on Terror — not quite 12 years since the 9/11 attacks. In what may have been the most important speech of his presidency, Obama said he would ask Congress to join him in efforts to “refine, and ultimately repeal,” the Authorization to Use Military Force passed three days after 9/11. In other words, he intends to write the War on Terror out of US law. “This war, like all wars, must end,” he said.

More than eight months after the 9/11 anniversary attacks on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, the CIA is still trying to find out how the attack that killed two former Navy SEALs at the agency’s annex transpired. The attack on the CIA base came more than seven hours after an armed mob stormed the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, setting the compound ablaze and killing U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and Sean Smith, a State Department communications officer who was with him. On Wednesday, Deputy CIA Director Mike Morrell—along with CIA officers who were

T he CIA Iran rescue operation featured in Argo isn´t the first time the U.S. has used the arts to foil a bitter enemy. This week, PBS premiered a documentary on the U.S. Army´s 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, nicknamed the Ghost Army, a group of 1,100 handpicked soldiers in World War II who played an unlikely, but pivotal, role in the Allied victory over Nazi Germany. If you´ve never heard of the Ghost Army, you´re in good company. The unit was a classified secret until 1996 — it´s still partially classified — and Rick Beyer, the director of The Ghost Army,

The United States is the most heavily armed nation in world history, and it seems we have President Barack Obama to thank for it. Before you ask: we’re not talking about the U.S. military, we’re talking about the firearms owned by the general population. The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) estimates that there are roughly 300 million firearms in the United States — and of those, nearly 40 million new firearms have been sold just since Barack Obama came into office in 2009. This is a staggering jump of more than 15 percent

To listen to press secretaries and congressional hearings, one might think that an epidemic had erupted in the nation’s capital – an epidemic of incompetence and absentee leadership. Practically no area of government has immunity from this disease, whether it’s at the White House, the State Department, the IRS and Treasury, or at the Department of Justice. Let’s start with the White House, which may well be the epicenter of the disease. The administration faces at least three major scandals – Benghazi, the Department of Justice’s snooping on reporters for the AP and Fox News, and the IRS targeting

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
