| Virginia, home to the National Rifle Association’s headquarters, the Nation’s Gun Show and a conservative legislature, is by many measures a more gun-friendly state than Maryland. But in one aspect of gun control, Virginia is more restrictive than its neighbor across the Potomac. Residents of the commonwealth are almost three times as likely to be banned from owning a firearm for mental health reasons as residents of Maryland, which has been reluctant to restrict the rights of the mentally ill. For the Democratic-controlled Maryland General Assembly and Gov. Martin O’Malley (D), this poses a dilemma.

We already know that deranged people are responsible for mass shootings,not guns but that isn´t enough proof for the morons who run Maryland.Va.´s policies should be adopted in a national policy but once again the liberals don´t want a common sense approach,they only want to confiscate,leaving criminals with all the illegal guns they want.

Law changes need to include the families. They are most in the position to know if a person is deteriorating mentally. They will know before the person goes back to the mental health professional. Yes, it is true that most people with mental health problems are not violent. But, some are. That is no different from saying that most people will never commit murder. But, some do.
Leaving out suicide is stupid. Most people with mental illness who are violent either harm themselves or their families. Leaving that out of the equation will cost a lot of lives.

The latest reporting in the matter of Fox News Channel’s James Rosen indicates the Obama administration fought to keep the search warrant for Rosen’s private email account secret, arguing that the government might need to monitor the account for a lengthy period of time. WASHINGTON — Haynes Johnson, a pioneering Washington journalist who won a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the civil rights movement and migrated from newspapers to television, books and teaching, died Friday. The FBI has arrested a San Antonio man on charges he lied to get into the United States and tried to get a sensitive Defense Department position. A FREE press in a democracy demands a delicate balance. The First Amendment means the media must have the right to inquire without hindrance. The government has a legitimate interest in keeping some national security information secret. When these come into conflict, the balance often has been struck this way: The media are free to pursue secrets, but it is up to those in government to keep them. The brutal murder of an off-duty soldier by two Muslim activists continues to dominate the news in Great Britain. The scene was utterly bizarre: in broad daylight, in a busy section of London, the two Muslims apparently ran the soldier down with a car, within a block or two of his barracks, and then attacked him with knives and a meat cleaver. A day after insurers complained that Kathleen Sebelius and the Obama administration had pressured them to fund Enroll America, a House committee sent them a request for more information on the matter. President Obama delivered an address today at the National Defense University called “The Future of our Fight Against Terrorism.” Actually, part of the speech was about the past, including much self-congratulation and some shots at President Bush. This part of the speech is revisionist rubbish. As Max Boot explains: Obama said, for example, that after he came into office, “we unequivocally banned torture, affirmed our commitment to civilian courts, worked to align our policies with the rule of law, and expanded our consultations with Congress.” Umm, actually all of that happened in Bush’s second term.
