Biden: Mental Health Check
May Have Prevented
Virginia Tech Shooting

ABC News, by Matthew Larotonda

Vice President Biden says a mental health check on gun sales may have averted the 2007 mass shooting on Virginia Tech‘s campus. Biden’s comments came after a roundtable discussion in Richmond today that included experts involved with the gun control commission convened after the university tragedy. The vice president reported the panel had reached “pretty broad consensus” over what criteria they proposed should deny a sale, including “mental capacity.” “One of the problems that was pointed out here was that there was an adjudication of the young man that committed the crime at Virginia Tech,

From the Headline, I ´m sure that the Vast Majority of you, as I, thought that our esteemed Vice President was finally going to get the help he needed

At least mental health checks would prevent all liberals from owning a weapon.

"Biden also said convicted felons and those found guilty of domestic abuse should be denied the ability to own firearms."

Would someone inform Biden that felons aren´t allowed guns now but the laws have no real penalty? Adding huge penalties for gun crimes would be effective.

Unfortunately, the left will take advantage of the Mental Illness Loophole. For instance, Big Sis wants to deem any returning military with combat experience as mentally incapable of having a gun license.... Holder may say Christians are unstable & not eligible for gun licenses.

According to the internet he made a statement to a fellow student that he was considering suicide. He was evaluated and released. Would someone explain to the Vice President the percentage of students that have expressed suicidal thoughts. You wouldn´t deny him a drivers license on that basis, yet more people commit suicide with an automobile.

I assume he´s going to push for a ´mental health check´ and ´psychiatric counseling´ before a gun purchase, which would then prohibit your making the purchase...."Oh, you´ve had psychiatric counseling? Sorry, bud; can´t sell it to you." These subversive termites need to be fumigated.

Read the article. The shooter had already been in a psych hospital involuntarily and was under court order for mental health outpatient treatment, which he wasn´t following. That court order is enough in most states to get him on the ´do not sell´ list, but apparently that didn´t happen in Virginia.

No one who is talking about suicide needs a gun. That doesn´t say they will need a lifetime block, but they certainly don´t need a gun at that time. Waiting periods, especially in situations where the person has mental health issues but has not been found permanently incapacitated by a court, could save lives.

A perfect storm of yen strength, a spike in Japanese government bond yields and new evidence of weakness in China´s economy were behind a major sell-off Thursday in Japan´s equity markets, said experts. The benchmark Nikkei 225 closed down 7.3 percent in a session that saw it rise 2 percent in early trade only to reverse direction and fall sharply. The broader Topix finished 6.8 percent lower. "Almost everything went wrong during the day - the bond market had a bit of a crash, China PMI data, and the yen is stronger.

Sen. Ted Cruz: ´I don’t

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Wednesday that he doesn’t trust members of his own party to negotiate a budget conference report. Cruz´s remark came after Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he thought it was “bizarre” that a member of his own party was objecting to forming a conference committee with the House to work out a budget. McCain said the objections suggested Senate Republicans didn’t trust House Republicans to hold the party line in negotiations. “Isn’t it a little bizarre, this whole exercise?” McCain said after Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) objected to going to conference.

Pope Francis says atheists can be good

Atheists should be seen as good people if they do good, Pope Francis has said in his latest urging that people of all religions, and none, work together. The leader of the world´s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics made his comments in the homily of his morning mass at his residence, a daily event at which he speaks without prepared comments. He told the story of a Catholic who asked a priest if even atheists had been redeemed by Jesus. "Even them, everyone," the pope answered, according to Vatican Radio. "We all have the duty to do good," he said.

Mr. Obama and green persimmons

The Republicans who can’t wait to talk impeachment should sit down, shut up, and be patient. President Obama may yet deserve impeachment, but we’re not there yet. Patience, as anyone old enough to remember Watergate knows, is how this game is played. Republicans tempted to reach too far too soon should remember that when impeachable presidents, like persimmons, are picked green, they’re inedible. Once ripened, they’re delicious. Like guilty presidents finally run to ground, ripe persimmons can be eaten fresh, dried, raw, or cooked. Properly ripened persimmons have the texture of pudding, with no risk of becoming “a pudding without a theme,”

Men who are physically strong

Men who are physically strong are more likely to take a right wing political stance, while weaker men are inclined to support the welfare state, according to a new study. Researchers discovered political motivations may have evolutionary links to physical strength. Men´s upper-body strength predicts their political opinions on economic redistribution, according to the research. The principal investigators - psychological scientists Michael Bang Petersen, of Aarhus University in Denmark, and Daniel Sznycer, of the University of California in the U.S., believe that the link may reflect psychological traits that evolved in response to our early ancestral environments

"My question isn´t about who´s going to resign," House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told the press on Wednesday, "My question is, who´s going to jail over this scandal?" Boehner was joined at the Capitol by other GOP House leaders in discussing the admitted IRS targeting of conservative groups applying for tax exempt status. "The IRS has admitted to targeting conservatives, even if the White House continues to be stuck on the word ´if´, " Boehner said. "Now my question isn´t about who´s going to resign. My question is, who´s going to jail over this scandal?"

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
