Assault Weapons Ban Lacks
Democratic Votes to Pass Senate

Bloomberg, by Heidi Przybyla & Julie Hirschfeld Davis

A proposed ban on sales of assault weapons would be defeated in the U.S. Senate today unless some members changed their current views, based on a Bloomberg review of recent lawmaker statements and interviews. At least six of the 55 senators who caucus with Democrats have recently expressed skepticism or outright opposition to a ban, the review found. That means Democrats wouldn’t have a simple 51-vote majority to pass the measure, let alone the 60 votes needed to break a Republican filibuster to bring it to a floor vote. A ban on the military-style weapons is among the

Demand an up or down vote NOW.
Obama got his wrist slapped today with his recess appointments..now give him a butt kick for our Founding Fathers.

They´ll ban firearms via regulations, ergo, the article about Geico refusing to issue car insurance to gun owners or affiliates of gun mfg´s. Someone smarter than I needs to file a class action lawsuit on behalf of all gun owners.

For only today Bloomberg posits that Democrats won´t pass it, informally polling and guessing the rest.

Tomorrow is another day. When the arms are twisted off and a few personal scandals are threatening them, or their family, they will be extorted and will be coming around.

The extortables are the type they support and want in high office.

Everyone in the Senate should be opposed to such a bill if they were living up to the oaths they took. It´s a disgrace that the vote would be that close.

McConnell needs to get this to a vote ASAP with Democrats voting first, and no Republican voting until all Democrats are on record.

Hey this is great, Democrat leadership! Promise that the GOP will allow both the gun ban and the Obama budget to get to the floor of the Senate for a vote. Then vote present until all the Democrats have voted. It may even be worthwhile to let the budget actually get 51 votes so it can go to reconciliation with the House approved budgets. Just think of the Won having to veto a budget.

This draconian "assault weapons" ban is a red herring. Of course it won´t pass; it wasn´t supposed to pass.

Now the Senate is going to have to *do* something. So they´ll stiffen background check requirements. They´ll ´close the gun show loophole´. They´ll maybe demand that some weapons be registered.

Everything proposed will (almost by definition) be more "reasonable" than Feinstein´s ban, and thus will be harder to oppose.

Didn´t we hear the same thing about Obamacare and yet enough arms were twisted and goodies passed out to pass it? Obama will "find" the votes. Count on it. Gun control is their Holy Grail and the rest of their agenda depends on. It will pass and then when the government comes for our guns, Obama will put the hammer down. Well, at least that was the nightmare I had last night. Whew, that was a little unsettling. After all, that could never happen in this country, right?

"What difference does it make?"

We can play that game too with this illegal, no-accountability government. We will not comply, register or give up anything because the whole concept is unconstitutional. If the dumb dems vote the wrong way, they will realize their mistake when the door-to-door operations start and they realize who holds the real power.

Let the Senate Democrats pass the ban. Get them on record. Then shoot it down in the House, and leave the stink on the Dems for the 2014 election. I say, contact the wavering Senators and tell them you´re a red-fanged gun owner, and you want them to vote for the ban. See if they can process that.

If only I thought our politicians were, in their hearts and minds, doing the right thing and upholding our Constitution, this would comfort me. Alas, I think the majority of those creatures don´t even know what that wonderful document is. It is for some other reason they won´t vote for it. Perhaps a few are afraid of what their voters might do. At least THAT part of our system is working the way the founding fathers intended, sometimes.

Easy peasy. Promise the 6 or 7 they need prestigious administration positions or appointments if they commit political suicide and vote for it. Run lying candidates in their places next year who swear they would have voted against it and campaign as fiscal conservatives who aren´t party hacks at all dontchaknow.

Democrats quit caring about the truth and doing the right thing a long long time ago.

The way to deal with the registration issue is to apply the same rules to anyone who pays for someone who will be armed in their presence. They should go into a searchable data base. They should get a psychiatric evaluation.

The gun culture is a respected, important part of America, like the small plane flying culture, like the hunting culture, like the fly fishing culture, like the old ham radio culture, like the hot rod culture, the Harley culture, the country music culture, it is rock solid imbedded in all of our every day lives. And we all know we would prefer to have an armed next door neighbor, than a dis-armed no guns thank you neighbor, simply for our own family´s added protection. Not even a democrat who practices and spouts communism in his greed built soft job in Washington, wants to vote against the most solid culture in his voting constituency. Even a stupid commie democrat KNOWS he cannot destroy his voters support with this gun banning trash. Diane Feinstein, gun toting Feinstein is the most ridiculous hypocrit of them all. She is sbsurd, stupidly contradicting herself thinking she can ditch her own gun collection and create a last minute gun destroying band wagon. Is she totally nuts? Throw her out of office!

#11 nails it. The AW Ban is the distraction, the magician´s hand that you are supposed to stay focussed on, while he picks your pocket with the other.

They only need to keep taking nibbles out of our rights, and doing "reasonable" restrictions. We now have 25,000 nibbles out of our rights.

We HAVE TO stop the "gun show loophole" lie, THIS IS UNIVERSAL GUN REGISTRATION.

This has been their HOLY GRAIL for the last 50 years, and they are using the AW Ban as a stalking horse to get gun registration.
If private sales are illegal, eventually ALL guns will be illegal or registered.
Then they can tax and confiscate at will.

As long as guns are freely bought and sold without government permission and controls, we are free people. Once this is gone it is gone FOREVER.

Reply 35 - Posted by: bighambone, 1/26/2013 2:47:37 PM     (No. 9140872)

Here is the hang up that the liberal Democrats have to get through in order to pass their gun ban. The Democrats have to defend 20 Senate seats in the election next year plus all their seats in the House of Representatives. If the Senate votes on the gun ban those 20 Democrat Senators who are up for re-election, a few may retire, will have to show their hand, and if they vote for the gun ban some of them will not be re-elected you can bet on that. The Democrats also want to levy a $200.00 tax on each gun already owned by law abiding Americans, if you own 10 guns you get to pay a $2,000.00 tax, that´s going to go over like a lead balloon. So unless in looks like the Democrats have the votes to also pass their gun ban in the House of Representatives, it is doubtful that the Democrats will show their hand in the Senate by voting for a gun ban that will not pass the House. Since the House is controlled by the Republicans it is very doubtful that any such over reaching Democrat gun ban bill could pass there. You can safely bet that any Republican who would vote for such a bill will be opposed in the next Republican primaries with a lot of them becoming unelectable in the following general election. So no matter what the Obama propaganda machine pumps out, the Democrats getting any sort of a gun ban through the Congress is a steep uphill battle that just gives Obama the opportunity to travel outside Washington, DC and politically posture against the Republicans. That does not mean that everybody should not pay attention, and certainly should make their views known to their congressional representatives.

How many ignored warnings does it take? That is one question that should hang over Britain after the horror of the daytime murder of a British soldier on the streets of south London. On Wednesday afternoon, Drummer Lee Rigby was killed in Woolwich by two men wielding large knives and shouting "Allahu akbar"—God is great. Islamists have been saying for years they would do this. They have planned to do it. And now they have done it. The attack itself is not surprising. What is surprising is that British society remains so utterly unwilling not just to deal

The White House insists President Obama is "outraged" by the "inappropriate" targeting and harassment of conservative groups. If true, it´s a remarkable turnaround for a man who helped pioneer those tactics. On Aug. 21, 2008, the conservative American Issues Project ran an ad highlighting ties between candidate Obama and Bill Ayers, formerly of the Weather Underground. The Obama campaign and supporters were furious, and they pressured TV stations to pull the ad—a common-enough tactic in such ad spats. What came next was not common.
