Filibuster Deal Restricts Senators’
Rights to Debate Judicial Nominees

Heritage, by Todd Gaziano & Andrew Kloster

This afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced a potential filibuster deal that, among other problematic provisions, limits post-cloture debate on federal district court nominees (and non-Cabinet-level officials). Senators currently have up to 30 hours of post-cloture debate on the merits of a district court nominee; the new rule would permit only two hours. This proposal would seriously undermine the rights of sitting senators to call attention to problematic district court nominees and, as a consequence, would enable the President to make more philosophically questionable

Wonderful. You just knew if Dingy Harry agreed to it it wouldn´t be good.

Why even bother, there are no debates or filibusters in the Reid Senate. Do they even bother to vote anymore?

I would be perfectly happy with a filibuster rule that required that a Senator (not necessarily the same Senator) continue to speak on an issue in order for the filibuster to continue.

Reid holds football.

McConnell runs to kick football.

Reid pulls ball away at last minute.

McConnell kicks the air and falls on his butt.

Reid promises not to pull football at last minute.

Where the real issues are resolved.

Obomination will pack the district courts with liberals and progressives, which was the end-game all along.

Republicans got snookered, again.

Why doesn´t the Leader (Ben Hazi?) of the Republican Branch of the American Socialist Party just issue a formal dictak announcing the Official Termination of the Republican Party and all of its staff, clientele, lobbyists, hangers-on, ad nauseam, and announcing its formal joining to the Democrat Branch of the American Socialist Party?

Hopefully other pubbie senators won´t go along with the deal and things will remain the same. Reid is doing this because he wants cover - and isn´t certain libtards will hold the senate in 2014 - otherwise why not the nuclear option and slam dunk it?

Why do the filibuster need to be changed now? Harry was not concerned when Harry was in McConnell´s position. McConnell, like Boehner, is always dealing, and losing the deal. Doing nothing is better. When Harry opens his mouth, the answer is no.

Maybe some here are trolls, but the article does not explain how the genesis of this whole thing began with Whitehouse, Sen. from RI over a year ago Then, after picking up speed by Udall,Carden and others started to pick, pick, pick. Well lo and behold!, mccain, rode in with a hat{no horse, though}and formed a group of 8,four Rs and 4 Ds. mccain,Alexander,Kyle and Barrasso..Cardin and one of the Udalls cant remember the two Dems.
This all happened last year, but of course no one reported it.

The FBI is probing past legal work done by Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis, according to a report her Republican opponent’s campaign calls a “bombshell.” The Dallas Morning News reported Friday that documents “related to Sen. Wendy Davis’ work as a lawyer for the North Texas Tollway Authority are part of an FBI inquiry of the agency.” The news outlet said it’s unclear how much this investigation revolves around Davis, the Democratic nominee for governor. “It’s not clear whether Davis’ work for the tollway authority is a focus of the FBI or only part of the material collected in connection

Researchers at Princeton and Northwestern universities have pored over 1,800 US policies and concluded that America is an oligarchy. Instead of looking out for the majority of the country’s citizens, the US government is ruled by the interests of the rich and the powerful, they found. No great surprises there, then. But the government is not the only American power whose motivations need to be rigourously examined. Some 2,400 miles away from Washington, in Silicon Valley, Google is aggressively gaining power with little to keep it in check. It has cosied up to governments around the world so effectively that its chairman,

Then-Sens. Joe Biden and John Kerry were both opposed to Hillary Clinton’s 1993 health-care reform program, according to documents released by the Clinton presidential library. Clinton marked a handwritten “No” beside Biden’s name on Clinton’s list of Capitol Hill lawmakers that she needed to win over for her universal health care law, known as the “Clinton health plan” or “Hillarycare,” to pass. John Kerry, meanwhile, was marked with a “Probably not.” “Hillarycare” ended up dying in the Democratic-controlled Senate in 1994 without coming to a floor vote. As vice president, Biden has been a loyal supporter of the Obama administration’s

Wayne Crews of the Competitive Enterprise Institute and Alexis de Tocqueville, author of the classic Democracy in America, were born in different times and places. But the French aristocrat and American think tanker have the measure of the federal behemoth in the age of Obama. Writing in 1835, Tocqueville eloquently predicted how it would function, while Crews today supplies in his annual compilation of federal rules and regulations, “10,000 Commandments,” the hard numbers that describe the behemoth´s contemporary reach and costs. It is always worthwhile to revisit de Tocqueville’s description of what he called the

Prominent Washington correspondents are accusing President Obama and his aides of knowingly stretching the truth on issues like the so-called women´s pay gap just to create controversy and keep issues -- and the president -- relevant. Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus kicked off the attack last week when she blasted as “demagoguery” the administration´s tactics during the pay gap debate. “The level of hyperbole -- actually, of demagoguery -- that Democrats have engaged in here is revolting,” she wrote. CBS White House Correspondent Major Garrett then weighed in this week in his National Journal

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
