Women have to work harder than
men to lose weight and get fit

It´s bad news for women who work out with their partners. [Snip] Scientists at the University of Missouri who put obese men and women on the same fitness programme found men reaped significantly more benefits. And experts are now warning that while exercise alone might be enough for men to lose weight, women must also address their diet to get the same results. During the study, Professor Jill Kanaley and her colleagues looked at the heart rate and blood pressure of nearly 75 obese men and women with Type 2 diabetes. They all followed a programme of aerobic

Comments:
The doctor who diagnosed my Type 2 diabetes told me then, nearly 15 years ago, that women face more difficulty than men in losing weight. What works for me is aqua exercise in a therapy pool of 94-degree, salt-treated water. Joint pain disappears.

That´s where I get my best exercise, too, OP. Only mine is an outdoor pool, so I have to do something else in the winter months. Boo.

Why should women have to work harder to lose weight? It isn´t fair.

Congress should do something about it.

(Or, maybe, men, biologically, are the ones responsible for the hunting, which requires muscle, while the women do the caretaking, which requires cuddliness. Hmmm?)

I don´t believe it. Maybe men have to work less hard at getting fat. Empirically, i sense the opposite: I see many more fat men than fat women.

They needed to do a study for this? I figured it out years ago in a health club when a man got on the stair climber next to mine, programed in his weight and immediately started burning far more calories than I was burning. And we were working our climbers at the same speed.

Since women were designed by God to carry and feed unborn babies for 9 months, it is always going to be a struggle to lose that extra weight. Unless you go the way of women in Hollywood who have a Csection-tummy tuck combo at the time of delivery. And them hire personal trainers at a great cost which those of us on planet Earth can´t afford to do.

The Metropolitan Police has defended the way it responded to reports of the killing in Woolwich, south London, after questions were raised about how long it took officers to reach the scene. The force said police were there within nine minutes of the first emergency call and firearms officers were at the scene five minutes after that. Mayor Boris Johnson was heckled when he visited the area. BBC London´s Home Affairs Correspondent Guy Smith spoke with Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, former Metropolitan Police Commander John O´Connor and Roger Gray, a former firearms officer.

HANAHAN--The U.S. Naval Brig is once again being mentioned as a leading alternative to put terror detainees on trial after President Barack Obama this week rekindled his push to shut down the terror-suspect holding site at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. “I once again call on Congress to lift the restrictions on detainee transfers from Gitmo,” he said. “I have asked the Department of Defense to designate a site in the United States where we can hold military commissions.” Speculation immediately re-focused on the brig at Charleston as a leading choice where some of the 166 detainees could go on trial.

Proudly marching through the streets of York with cheers ringing in their ears, the men and women of 2nd Signal Regiment--recently returned from Afghanistan--were greeted by thousands of people lining the streets to welcome them home. In the hours after the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby by alleged Islamist terrorists in Woolwich, south-east London, on Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence had advised servicemen and women not to go out in uniform--an order that was promptly ignored by soldiers who refused to be cowed and almost immediately rescinded. 300 members of the Armed Forces were cheered by well-wishers who waved

If an alleged Benghazi cover-up, the IRS tea-party scandal, and claims that his Justice Department is ignoring reporters´ First Amendment Rights weren´t already the stuff of headaches for President Barack Obama, now he´s facing a mini-scandal with the U.S. Marines. While boarding Marine One, the presidential helicopter, on Friday, Obama walked past a saluting Marine corporal and strode up the boarding stairs without returning the salute. The breach of military protocol--the president of the United States serves as the military commander-in-chief--did not go unnoticed by the press corps. People taking statins face an increased risk of developing diabetes, warn researchers. They found a 10 percent extra risk linked to taking simvastatin--the most commonly prescribed anti-cholesterol drug--which rose to 22 percent for those taking atorvastatin. Previous research into a suspected link with statins found a 9 percent rise in the chance of patients developing diabetes, but the new study looked at specific brands of drug. [Snip] Researchers identified 471,250 patients with no history of diabetes and who were newly treated with a statin, just over half were women and all were at least 66 years old. Statin therapy

The September 11 attacks on America was by no means the first act of terrorism carried out in the name of Islam. The 1993 World Trade Center bombings killed six, while the 1998 US embassy bombings of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya, left 223 people dead. However, the scale, horror and repercussions of 9/11--2,996 people dead, the World Trade Center destroyed and the Pentagon attacked--set it apart as a seminal moment that changed the course of history. [Snip] Subsequently, Islamist terrorists attacked Madrid in 2004, London in 2005 and Mumbai in 2008, among many other lethal and devastating

At one bar, a mixture that included rubbing alcohol and caramel coloring was sold as scotch. In another, premium liquor bottles were refilled with water--and apparently not even clean water at that. State officials provided those new details Thursday on raids they conducted a day earlier as part of a yearlong investigation dubbed Operation Swill. Twenty-nine New Jersey bars and restaurants, including 13 TGI Fridays, were accused of substituting cheap booze - or worse--for top-shelf brands while charging premium prices. State officials would not say what establishment used the rubbing alcohol or which one used dirty water, or

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
