The craven retreat of the generals
Pruden and Politics, by Wesley Pruden

Wars are won despite the generals. Every historian knows that. Combat is no place for a woman. Every grunt knows that. So do most women. Only generals are confused. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have finally succumbed to the pressure of the ladies who can’t imagine ever getting close to a gun, registered or otherwise, but who think it would be nifty if some of the cannon fodder for America’s wars could be “service members” of the female persuasion. This would make the ladies on the sidelines feel brave and good about themselves.

Social experiments have no place in combat operations. Lives depend on ability not desire.

Sounds like the military is becoming politicized.

There is something just wrong about the whole notion. The role of men as provider and protector is diminished by taking their jobs and guns away and sending the women into combat.

Reply 5 - Posted by: The Architect, 1/25/2013 7:55:56 AM     (No. 9138111)

The one thing all these social experiments have in common is that they completly neglect the fact that nature created physical differences between the male and females of all species. Men are physically stronger and more aggressive than women. Saying they are the same and treating them the same does not make them the same. Having women billited with men is a recipe for disaster. And at the risk of being accused of being sexist, once a month women tend to become a bit disfunctional and irrational. Do we really want them walking around with loaded weapons at that time?

I´ve got to say that when the head of your military looks like a drunken derelict that someone fished out of the gutter, showered and put a uniform on, it does not inspire confidence in me for dempsey. And his constant parroting of lines fed to him is awfully reminiscent of another man in an important job with no ability to execute the duties of that job.

Also, keep in mind the thoughts going through a spouses head while their mate is in a foxhole with someone else.

The real question is not CAN women fulfill combat responsibilities, but SHOULD they? Mantras and memes like "gender neutral" involve unexamined a priori beliefs. Gender neutrality is far from self-evident. Indeed, it is quite a stretch. The stretch is an ideological one. Women in combat might be considered the reductio ad absurdum of equal opportunity employment policy. It is by no means absurd to proponents. They are indignant that anyone would dare to express doubt about it.

Leftists and Democrats claim Republicans and conservatives have swerved drastically to the Right and are extremists. This is either a lie or a false perception caused by the Left´s own radicalism. Every single cause dear to Leftists is novel and against the American grain. Sending women into combat is just the latest of many radical innovations that previous generations of Americans would have thought foolish, wicked, or insane.

This has nothing to do with the military. Why hasn´t anyone questioned the timing of the announcement. Just when Obama is taking a lot of hits from both the right and the left about his all white male cabinet appointments he suddenly announces allowing women into combat roles. End of his women problems - until women start coming home in body bags that is.

"The real question is not CAN women fulfill combat responsibilities, but SHOULD they? " Spot on #8. And those concerned about the whole fraternization issue should take note of all the "firings" of commanding officers now running rampant through the services. Most of these are sex related. Putting women aboard ships has created chaos, and is, predictably, leading to pregnancies, sexual assaults, and fraternization problems. Time to call off the social experiments and return the military to its traditional role - getting dirty and killing bad people - all under very strenuous conditions.

And it is stated that the women will have to meet the current physical standards and training. Does anyone really believe that? Either the standards will be modified for women or the standards as a whole will be softened if the desired percentage of female representation isn´t met. As Rush is so fond of saying, "Don´t doubt me."

While the "war on women" was just a campaign slogan, the real war is against masculinity and the notion that males have unique and valuable attributes. We have feminized everything.

Now I see that Marco Rubio supports this nonsense. And I had thought I might support him. No more. We are really going to need a president who´s got a pair.

In the meantime, I suggest we let the feminists enjoy the fruits of their victory: draft the Sandra Fluke´s of this world and let them start earning their free condoms.

You will notice there has been a rather LARGE downsizing of senior military officers in the recent past. Panetta is a rat wonk with about ZERO time in uniform. He is pushing B-Ho´s agenda and any senior military official who supports women in combat should be fired! Women in the US Military has been an unqualified success. Women in front line combat units is unneeded, uncalled for, and wrong.....

The primary nocturnal emission of the left is the total subjugation of the U.S.A.´s Military.
This is but one night´s work.

I suspect a darker motive. Perhaps the so-called progressives are counting on future graphic photos of maimed and dead women to sap this nation´s fighting will.

This goes to prove that Leon Panetta is nothing more than a huge craven coward to have waited until he is leaving to have dumped this garbage on this country. Go back and hide under your rock Leon. And think about the future horrors you have inflicted on my Country. You are truly evil.

In the past I would have been extremely upset by this insanity. Today, I can´t understand why any traditional, masculine American male would even consider enlisting in the military. No leaders, politicization, PC, Affirmative Action, and rules of engagement to aid your worst enemies.

Reply 21 - Posted by: countdrac, 1/25/2013 11:30:55 AM     (No. 9138695)

If this goes through, then let´s have all- female units. Let them show their mettle.
What I mean is, do not have coed fighting units.

Generals take their orders from those elected by the American people! Does it anyone want to change the system? Panneta is and has always been a political hack but he is getting guidance from Obama. We have the government we deserve! Undo the mess in 2014!

This current crop of generals have clearly become yes men for Obama and his liberal crew. I guess you can justify that by saying that the a majority of the Americans, who have no experience in the military, are the people who actually elected Obama, who certainly has no respect for the experience of the generals and the traditions of the military, and that what we are experiencing is just a normal result of a very consequential election. But for young heterosexual males maybe the best thing to keep from being disappointed, and maybe from being killed for nothing, is to stay out from the military for at least the next four years.

He was acquitted in the fourth baby´s death, and found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the overdose death of an adult patient. Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 72, was convicted of first-degree murder and could face execution in the deaths of three babies who authorities say were delivered alive and then killed with scissors at his grimy clinic, in a case that became a flashpoint in the nation's debate over abortion. Reports from inside the secretive famine-hit pariah state, North Korea, claim a man has been executed after murdering his two children for food. The grim suggestion that North Koreans are turning to cannibalism were reported by the Asia Press, and published in the Sunday Times. They claim a ´hidden famine´ in the farming provinces of North and South Hwanghae has killed 10,000 people, and there are fears that cannibalism is spreading throughout the country.

Watching President Obama trying to dodge raindrops and responsibility yesterday reminded me of the moment when Dorothy pulls back the curtain and discovers that the Wizard of Oz is “just a man.” Stripped of his spell of mystery and power, the wizard is worse than mortal. He’s a fake. So it was with Obama in the Rose Garden. His performance was tired and trite, ordinary to the point of dull. His veneer of passion was so transparent that you could see him trying to summon his old-time magic by pushing the buttons

STANDING BEFORE reporters Thursday, President Obama declined an invitation to compare the recent scandals weighing down his administration with those that forced President Nixon to resign in 1974. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes. Mr. Obama has done nothing of the kind.

The State Department, under Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, created an arrangement for her longtime aide and confidante Huma Abedin to work for private clients as a consultant while serving as a top adviser in the department. Ms. Abedin did not disclose the arrangement — or how much income she earned — on her financial report. It requires officials to make public any significant sources of income. An adviser to Mrs. Clinton, Philippe Reines, said that Ms. Abedin was not obligated to do so. The disclosure of the agreement that Ms. Abedin made with the State Department comes as her husband,

President Obama’s press conference in the rain was not a success, if by success, his supporters would mean an event which convinces anyone who doesn’t work for him that he’s getting ahead of the scandal deluge. The sight of a Marine holding an umbrella over his head only added to the weirdness of the event. So what did we learn? 1. He has full confidence in Attorney General Eric Holder, the man who purportedly recused himself (whenever) without putting it in writing (whatever). When asked about the untrammeled snooping on Associated Press reporters and editors,

“I look forward to taking some questions at tomorrow’s press conference,” President Obama said last night, after announcing the resignation of the acting IRS commissioner Steven Miller. Reporters, however, found themselves waiting outside in the rain for Obama, who was 47 minutes late. Only New York Times reporter Mark Landler had an umbrella.

Appearing on Laura Ingraham‘s radio show this afternoon, Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume suggested some Republicans were “stupid” to consider impeachment of President Obama a viable response to the ongoing scandals regarding the Benghazi attacks, the IRS targeting of conservative groups, and the Justice Department secret seizure of AP phone records. Likely referring to some GOP lawmakers, including Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) who has put impeachment on the table as an option for handling the Benghazi fallout, Ingraham asked Hume to comment on how some Republican leaders have “ran to the microphone” to suggest removal
