| A plant grown inside a sealed glass bottle is still thriving despite not having water or fresh air for more than 40 years. Gardener David Latimer, 80, from Cranleigh in Surrey, first planted his bottle garden in 1960 and finally sealed it tightly shut 12 years later - yet it´s still going strong. He recently took a picture of the 53-year-old bottle garden along to Radio 4 Gardener´s Question Time, where it was hailed as an amazing example of plants recycling their own waste by members of the programme´s expert panel. what don´t you know about terrariums, the plants only need sunlight to use photosynthesis to make sugars and in a sealed environment the water will evaporate and then condense back into the soil. But eventually no matter how much the plant "recycles" entropy will happen

It´s like #2 said, the water recycles. It´s used, but then the cycle repeats. It´s been a long time since my college class called physical geography (not maps and culture, systems like the water system), but I remember this.
The headline is misleading, of course, the plants also need LIGHT. Doesn´t have to be sunlight, photosynthesis just needs light.
A local garden radio host was once asked what the difference was between an ordinary light bulb and a ´´grow light.´´ His answer was seven dollars and 95 cents.
Upshot from the phys-geo course and just plain common sense is that this would certainly work. Not on something delicate, but spiderwort is hardy as all get out.
As for entropy, if the plant were mutating, yes, but this is simply a controlled environment and a plant that thrives on such a thing.
It also happens to be pretty cool.

Forgot the other thing I was going to say about the water: remember, the whole earth is a closed system as far as water is concerned. We have all we´re ever going to get, since (if not creation) the Flood at least.

A religious group spewing what the owners of One Liberty Place call hate speech against women, whites and gays can no longer demonstrate immediately outside the building´s entrance at 16th and Chestnut Streets, a judge ruled today. WASHINGTON — Schoolchildren from New Jersey shore communities battered by Superstorm Sandy will join Michelle Obama for a garden harvest next week. The White House says the first lady will also be joined Tuesday by students who helped plant the crops last month. The New Jersey students are from Union Beach Memorial School in Union Beach and Long Beach Island Grade School in Ship Bottom. Both schools were damaged in last October’s storm. TRENTON — President Barack Obama will return to New Jersey on Tuesday to survey Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts with Gov. Chris Christie, according to a statement obtained by The Star-Ledger. The visit will mark Obama´s second trip to the shore since the storm hit about six months ago. “As residents and businesses prepare for a busy summer season, President Obama will visit the Jersey Shore with Governor Christie on Tuesday to view the ongoing recovery efforts after Hurricane Sandy devastated areas of the coastline last fall," the White House statement says.

In a long-awaited speech at the National Defense University, Barack Obama claimed that the nature of international terror attacks threatening the United States has changed since Sept. 11, 2001, with ´no large-scale attacks´ on America occurring since then. But his definition of ´large-scale attacks,´ his speech made clear, doesn´t include the 2013 Boston Marathon attack that wounded hundreds, the 2012 Benghazi terror attack that injured dozens and killed four, and the 2009 attack at Fort Hood that killed 13 and injured 30. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

Longoria, 38, took home a real degree (not an honorary one) in Chicano studies from Cal State Northridge, where she physically attended classes for three years, according to TMZ. "Big day today!!!
