NRA boycott kills
outdoors show that
banned assault weapons

A massive boycott sparked by the NRA and other gun-rights groups outraged that the nation´s largest outdoors show banned the exhibition of assault weapons has caused the show´s organizers to abruptly cancel the week-long event in Harrisburg, Pa. The successful boycott was the biggest demonstration of support by the outdoors industry and outdoorsmen yet against gun control efforts being pushed in Washington and in several states. "Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone, for now, the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show given the controversy surrounding its decision to limit the sale or display of modern sporting rifles

Yet another snarky columnist gets it wrong. The Sandy Hook murderer used only handguns during his rampage. Police found the Bushmaster in his car.

I am sure the hotel and restaurant owners of Harrisburg are ready to horsewhip the organizers of this event.

Living in this Central PA area (30 miles away) I can tell you this was a HUGE event for everyone from exhibitors to vendors to attendes.

I am proud that the industry and allies pulled out because of the organizer´s infantile actions!

Now, why are the Brits running the show anywho???

It wasn´t just the NRA. I have read that upwards of 300 vendors withdrew in protest. I don´t think the NRA has the kind of clout to force that if the vendors weren´t inclined to do so. Its not like the NRA is a union or anything.

NRA had little to do with this (I am a lifetime member).

It was many dozens of vendors (including the likes of Cabelas) that took a stand and pulled out.

This show has been going on since 1955.

Kudos to Trop Gun Shop, Kinsey Outdoors, Lancaster Archery, and Sportsman Shop, all of Lancaster County who started the ball rolling. Some had over $10,000 invested in their displays. Cabela´s and the NRA glommed onto the snowball and finished off the show.

The video of the police removing a long gun from the car trunk was that of a pump shotgun and not an AR15.

Will some of you please post a link to a credible news story that the little punk did not use an AR15.

If you can, that would be great news for me.

Just for a shortcut, here is the list of vendors who dropped out, backing the boycott:

I note that Cabela´s IS on the list. I also note that Bass Pro Shops, Dick´s, and Gander Mountain are NOT. Looks like I will be spending my money at Cabela´s from now on. Bye to the rest.

It is disappointing to see that Remington is not on the list of exhibitors that backed out, but perhaps they were not an exhibitor in the first place. Don´t see Stag Arms, either, which is my preferred semi-automatic .223, because it is available left handed. Stag is too busy selling guns to attend, I am sure.

I´m fortunate enough to live in an exceeding --- for now --- safe community. I haven´t even shot a gun since I was in Vietnam. But I have been a NRA member/supporter for years. Glad to see the NRA exercise some muscle here. We´re going to need such strong organizations to go up against the Obama regime´s fascists hellbent on decreasing and removing our liberties one by one, at every opportunity.

And Obama would tell us it is all for the greater good. China runs on the greater good, and individual liberties be damned.

Grassroots on the move again. Many small vendors began this thing and then there was a groundswell!Who said we were dead...........

What I´d like to see now is which guns were actually used, and the quantity from each, if that can be determined.

Between the Glock and the Sig you have the possibility of 30 rounds in their two magazines.

Don´t fall for the secondary arguement and let the truth be known. It was not the weapons; it was the creep who used them. We play right into the lefties´ hands when we try to argue against the facts.

Several weeks ago the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia sponsored a debate–more a discussion–between me and Thaddeus Mason Pope about end of life care under the Affordable Care Act. He supports medical futility. I oppose it. We went from there. I began my presentation with the quote in the headline above–asserting that Palin’s term “death panels” may have put a spear through the heart of Obamacare. I then said: People are afraid of centralized bureaucrats dictating whether Craig’s [the moderator’s terminally ill babies) children can have medical care, whether my 96-year-old mother can have medical care, whether people with disabilities can have medical

On Friday, President Barack Obama extended the decision on Canada’s Keystone XL pipeline until after the 2014 midterm elections. Announced on a Friday afternoon (the Good Friday holiday, no less) the story was barely covered by mainstream media outlets already heading out of town for their extended Easter weekend. (Snip) It defies any sense of logic or reason to suggest that 1,000 miles of new pipeline, installed with 2014 technology, would somehow endanger humanity when we already have 2,300 times that much already working without catastrophe.

A prominent member of the Republican establishment has decided once again to damn Sarah Palin with faint praise. In a recent column on Susana Martinez of New Mexico, Jonathan Tobin says: “there is little doubt about the reality of another war on women: the one that is being waged by left-wing ideologues against any female Republican who dares to emerge on the national political stage.” Tobin is a senior online editor at Commentary, so his columns provide a reasonable window into establishment Republican opinion. Then he goes on: While I’m no fan of Palin’s, the former Alaska governor was subjected to the sort of

President Obama on Monday said he has selected W. Eggleston, a white-collar defender who is now at Kirkland & Ellis, will replace departing White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler in mid-May. "Neil brings extraordinary expertise, credentials, and experience, to our team," Obama said in a statement. I’m sure that Cliven Bundy probably could have cut a deal with the Bureau of Land Management and should have. Of course, it’s never wise to let a federal court order hang over your head. And certainly we cannot have a world of Cliven Bundys if a legal system is to function. In a practical sense, I also know that if I were to burn brush on a no-burn day, or toss an empty pesticide container in the garbage bin, or shoot a coyote too near the road, I would incur the wrath of the government in a way someone does

New York City has roasted a man to death. Jerome Murdough, like a very large share of New York City’s homeless, was mentally ill. According to his family, he suffered from both bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, along with what his mother gently describes as “beer problems.” He was a former Marine who was in and out of homeless shelters, hospitals, and the occasional jail cell, with eleven misdemeanor convictions for trespassing, public drinking, drug possession, and the like. The Obama administration is poised to entertain a flood of new clemency applications from thousands of federal prisoners who were given harsh sentences under mandatory-minimum laws following drug convictions, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday. Holder said in a short videotaped statement that he wants to shrink the federal prison population by a modest amount while ensuring ´that those who have paid their debts have a chance to become productive citizens.´ At the center of the move is a set of old sentencing rules that punished crack-cocaine offenders with more time behind bars than users or traffickers of powder cocaine.

Former Sen. The former 1996 GOP presidential candidate sounded particularly skeptical of Cruz in an interview this week with The Wichita Eagle. "A number of the younger members, first-termers like Rand Paul, Rubio and that extreme-right-wing guy, Ted Cruz — all running for president now. I don´t think they´ve got enough experience yet," Dole said. The 90-year-old former senator said, however, his main concern about 2016 is living

If Jeb reaches for the nomination, there will be a titanic battle between the party establishment and the Tea Party. Steve Schmidt, McCain’s strategist in 2008, insists that in the end Republicans usually settle on the most electable candidate. To get by, this Bush may be forced to trim his positions, although the cautionary tale of Romney suggests that he would have to tack artfully and carefully for the sake of the general election. Certainly he will have the resources to outlast, discredit, and disqualify his rivals.

Washington - Michelle Obama said "splurging is the key to life" if you regularly eat right and stay active. Her biggest guilty pleasure: French fries. "How would you appreciate vegetables if you never had chocolate?" she asked. "You couldn´t live without a little chocolate, a little French fries." The first lady took questions from children reporters Monday after appearing at the White House Easter Egg Roll. She told the children that if they eat right the majority of the time, then a splurge or snack is not going to hurt them. "I still splurge when I can, but that's why I try to exercise almost every day," she said.

There’s a pattern of falsifying statistics throughout the entire Census Bureau. And anyone who attempts to blow the whistle on the fraud is either retaliated against or ignored, according to two new sources who have experienced the process firsthand. As I’ve been writing for more than six months, the Census Bureau office in Philadelphia uncovered a case of fraud in 2010, did nothing about it and allowed the practice to continue. In that instance, a data collector named Julius Buckmon was faking reports that went into the nation’s all-important jobless tally and consumer-inflation survey.
