| SALEM, OR - If you´re a regular smoker, you may want to keep an eye on a new bill in the Oregon Legislature. Rep. Mitch Greenlick, from Portland, is sponsoring a bill that makes cigarettes a Schedule III controlled substance, meaning it would be illegal to possess or distribute cigarettes without a doctor´s prescription. Under the proposal, offenders would face maximum punishments of one year in prison, a $6,250 fine or both. Other drugs and substances that are considered Schedule III controlled substances are ketamine, lysergic acid and anabolic steroids.

So all the dealers in other non-legal substances can now add cigarettes to their list of products. And all those nicotene addicts will have to submit themselves to the same dangerous world as buyers of meth, crack, pot, and lsd now face. That´s quite an improvement.

So does this mean that under Obama care one can get free cigaretts, and what is the disorder for which they are prescribed, and will one be able to smoke them in public places, on airplanes buses etc.,? After all if they are for the treatment of some disorder one should not be restricted from using them as needed, right?

If we are going to make an utterly useless product like cigarettes a controlled substance, perhaps we could do the same with perfume and makeup, two other utterly useless products that exist mainly for the purpose of tricking other people.
Then again, when I imagine the Hildabeast or the Sasquatch without makeup, maybe that´s not such a great idea.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it wants as many as 20 percent of its workers to "telework," use an "alternative work schedule," or do both, in order to "reduce green house gas emissions," decrease "employee stress," and give these government workers more time for "planning and preparing healthy meals." So says one of the HHS "performance measures" detailed in an appendix to the department´s latest strategic plan. HHS´s performance measure "4.D.05" says: "Increase the percent employees on telework or on Alternative Work Schedule." Telework means working from home via phone and computer.

Bloodletting, in the form of firings, dismissals, resignation, and expulsions, is a tribal rite in political Washington. It is most often used by the powerful on anyone less powerful as a symbolic sacrifice. Steven Miller, the now former acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, is the latest victim of ritual sacrifice. This week the Obama White House demanded his resignation to demonstrate the president’s “anger” at news that the IRS targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status for added review and slow approval.
