| A number of former soldiers have spoken out against the move because of the tough logistical life of fighters on the front line, even though many outsiders see Defense Secretary Leon Panetta´s decision to lift the ban on women serving in combat positions as a progressive move. Some have spoken out about how the move ignores some of the realities of war, like disgusting unhygienic conditions and the way that soldiers are sometimes forced to change in front of one another, in favor of gender equality. One wrote a letter in the Wall Street Journal describing the conditions

This is not progress.
Assuming none of the powers that be who thought this was a zippy idea have never served in combat, have they not read any of the books that describe what it is like? Try Sebastian Junger´s War, on Afghanistan. Or any number of books about WWII.
We do not see this in the Hollywood versions of war.

Maybe it is because not enough men are volunteering any more. When they can´t even protect themselves unless they are shot at. The rules of engagement are just plain dumb.

Leon served in the First Heavy Pork Division (To the victors go the spoils) fighting to give contracts to Democratic donors while under heavy Republican fire.
Barack Obama served in the Very Light Infantry Brigade, The Screaming Metrosexuals, based in Chicago. Hillary claimed in a NY Times article designed to shift focus away from Bill´s draft dodging that she wanted to join military. However, military rejected her because male soldiers didn´t want to risk seeing her naked, showered or not. She did come under fire for Benghazi, but escaped without a scratch.
It´s all a farce, and we are the audience.
Piñata´s afternoon announcement was designed to shift evening news away from Hillary´s testimony. Longer term, Obama and Hagel will use GOP efforts to keep woman out of combat for more War on Women PR..

The thing is, most women don´t want to be on the front lines. They know they´re not equipped for it in many ways, including strength and temperament.
But if a woman can pass all the rigors of training that the men do -- without exception -- then it seems like they´d just be another asset. The social implications are always the monkey wrench, though.

I don´t think anybody brought it up yet but combat situations often make you really horny, especially when anyone of the opposite sex is around. I understand it is a survival of the species thing. It´s nice of the brass to think about our combat troops and provide them with a little "companionship."

A soldier called in this morning on Laura Ingraham´s show and said while he was in combat the men didn´t get a shower for 90 DAYS. Some of the women were helicoptered out to give them showers. This is just a disaster of epic proportions. The ramifications of this horrible decision are endless. This is just what 0bama wants, to create chaos everywhere, no matter what segment of society.

Tired women force the guys to choose: I know the guys in training rotate carry the womens´ gear because she just can´t keep up and they have to help her out at the end of the day to keep up with the group.
This kind of thinking forces young men to decide to leave behind a flagging female or risk more of them being hurt or worse.
How much do I despise this government for forcing good men to make these kind of decisions.

And what happens when, in the chaos of combat, women lose their Urinary Diversion Devices? What happens when supply lines prioritize, um, ammo and ordinance over boxes of “menstrual suppression pills”?
In the meantime, our enemies will be bright enough to know that men make better soldiers than women. Our gender-compromised battalions will be up against the uniformity, and cohesive uncompromised morale, of MEN.
You couldn’t destruct this country better than if by plan. I wonder…

All women within the right age group need to register with the Selective Service. And, women should not be given the choice to go into combat. Men don´t have a choice, why should women? That means every women needs to meet the same physical standards as men.

If people are so hung up on what is on the outside of a body then how can they respect what is inside the body? For centuries we have been brainwashed into being ashamed of having a normal human body. We are so ashamed that we have to cover up to console our false sense of reality.
Someone once told me that we must honor and respect all of God´s creations. Well when it comes to the human body some tell God to "stick it". It´s not really a matter of morals, it´s a matter of what and who we truly are.

GREENBELT, Md.- NASA released a dramatic and revealing image of an erupting Alaskan volcano Thursday taken by astronauts aboard the International Space Station. The photograph is of the Pavlof Volcano, located in the Aleutian Arc about 625 miles southwest of Anchorage, the space agency said. The oblique perspective of the photo taken from the ISS when it was about 475 miles south-southeast of the volcano reveals the three dimensional structure of the ash plume, often obscured by the top-down view of most remote sensing satellites, NASA said.

CHICAGO -- The Obama administration has chosen a private attorney and former federal prosecutor who helped send former Illinois Gov. George Ryan to prison for corruption to head the U.S. attorney´s office in Chicago, Illinois´ senators announced Thursday. Zachary Fardon, 46, would replace Patrick Fitzgerald, who stepped down last summer to enter private practice. Fitzgerald rose to national prominence during more than a decade in the office and successfully convicted two Illinois governors, including Ryan. The U.S. Senate must confirm President Barack Obama´s nomination of Fardon. Fitzgerald issued a statement to The Associated Press calling Fardon "a terrific choice,"

GREENVILLE, California -- An earthquake in far northeastern California was felt by thousands of people as far away as San Francisco and in two other states, but there have been no reports of injury or serious damage. The magnitude-5.7 quake broke dishes and shook mirrors when it struck at 8:47 p.m. Thursday, officials said. It was centered near Greenville, about 25 miles southwest of Susanville in far northeastern California, said Rafael Abreu, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey´s National Earthquake Center in Golden, Colo. There have been several aftershocks, including a magnitude 4.9 that struck early Friday morning.

When Chelsea Clinton wanted to make a low-key visit to the hurricane-stricken Rockaways last fall, she arranged to take a trip with her close friend Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton. So some members of the Clinton camp were surprised and unsettled to learn that Ms. Abedin also brought along her husband, Anthony D. Weiner, the former congressman who had rarely been seen in public since resigning his seat the previous year. The next day, Mr. Weiner reactivated his Twitter account to post a video about the Rockaways. Photographs soon surfaced in New York news outlets

WASHINGTON — At times on Thursday, it seemed President Obama was taking part in a debate rather than giving a speech. Deep into an address at the National Defense University, where Mr. Obama sought to redefine America’s approach to fighting terrorism, a heckler repeatedly interrupted from the back of the room, demanding an end to drone strikes and the closing of the Guantánamo Bay detention center in Cuba. The heckler — though she objected strenuously to being described that way — was Medea Benjamin, a co-founder of Code Pink, a group opposed to United States military actions.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
