| Senator Chuck Schumer earned some chuckles among Democrats when he said today that the decision by House Republicans to suspend any limits on the national debt for three months was evidence that “The president stared down the Republicans. They blinked.” The GOP chose to remove, at least for a time, any threat of a government shutdown because they knew they were locked in an unequal struggle with the White House and the Democratic majority in the Senate. Rand told Hillary he would have fired her. Good for him. I think I am ready for Rand Paul. I agree with him that if we "find a path for citizenship" we should also stop all legal immigration.
In the early 1900´s we had a huge immigration from Italy and for a period of time all immigration was halted until we had digested (melting potted) what we already had. When the melting pot is avoided we don´t get Americans we get Balkanization.

Even if Rand Paul is a lone wolf crying in the wilderness, his cry is welcomed by the people who wish for some sign that someone, somewhere, is willing to fight for them.

I take issue with the ´insurgent´ adjective. To me it has terrorist overtones. We are the opposition, and Rand Paul is doing a great job so far. I´m not ready to nominate him for 2016 because it is too soon, but we´ll keep our eyes on him!

An IRS supervisor working in Washington told congressional investigators that she personally reviewed applications from groups for tax-exempt status, in testimony that appears to show the agency’s scrutiny of conservative groups extended beyond the confines of the office in Cincinnati. Holly Paz, who was a supervisor in the Internal Revenue Service’s tax-exempt status division, indicated during an interview with congressional investigators that she did review such applications, but indicated that she believed “tea party” meant political advocacy in general — not necessarily conservative groups.

The Supreme Court ruled today in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council that federal law does not allow states the option of requiring voters to prove they are American citizens when they register to vote. Syria is turning out to be a sort of Spanish Civil War of our age, with Hezbollah and Iran playing the role of fascist Italy and Germany, and the Islamic nations and jihadists that of Stalin’s Russia, as the moderates disappear and the messy conflict becomes a proxy war for greater powers, with worse to come. There were always problems for the Obama administration intervening in Syria besides the usual bad/worse choices in the Middle East between authoritarianism and Islamic extremism and the president’s own preference for sonorous sermons rather than rapid action

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria.
