Welcome to the ruff club. Two new breeds will make their debut at the 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show next month — further proof that every dog indeed has its day. The tenacious Russell terrier and the athletic treeing walker coonhound will strut for the first time on the dog world’s grandest stage: Madison Square Garden. “It´s an honor and a privilege. We´ve worked so hard at it,” said Sue Sobel, 66, a tireless booster of her breed who will show two Russell terriers, Meadowbrook Madison and Foxfield Pepper Patch.

Those coonhounds have sweet faces, as do the Russell terriers. I prefer a calmer breed for around the house - like my little lazy weenie girl Dixie and her sweet sister Delta.
They get frisky when outside but I keep them on an extender leash.

"treeing walker coonhound"?

And the Society for the Perpetually Offended hasn´t stepped forward to express their outrage?

I have 5 dogs. One of them is an English American Coon Hound. Same size as the Walker but the white part of the legs has ticking (spots) like a German Shorthaired Pointer. Great dog, very affectionate and good with kids, but like the article says, needs lots of room and likes to be outdoors. She doesn´t bark, she bellows. Sounds like "Woooo".

At last there will be SOMETHING worth watching on TV again! We always look forward to the Westminster. Thanks for the reminder!

We had to sadly put our 15 year-old Jack Russell down last month. He was the sweetest and funniest dog. He is so missed. He was a great protector too. I miss him.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus grew a bit testy during his Morning Joe appearance on Thursday as the other guests — John Heilemann in particular — challenged his assertions regarding the IRS scandal. Right from the start, Heilemann objected to Priebus inferring guilt from IRS official Lois Lerner‘s using her Fifth Amendment right. Lerner didn’t do herself any favors by choosing not to answer any questions at yesterday’s congressional hearing, Priebus argued — “which, whether you agree with it as a basis of law or not, implies there are some criminal aspects of this investigation.”

A new book out in Germany reveals how President Kennedy was a secret admirer of the Nazis. The news comes embarrassingly close to a visit being paid to Berlin next month by President Obama - one week before 50th anniversary commemorations of JFK´s memorable ´Ich bin ein Berliner´ speech pledging US solidarity with Europe during the Cold War. President Kennedy´s travelogues and letters chronicling his wanderings through Germany before WWII, when Adolf Hitler was in power, have been unearthed and show him generally in favour of the movement that was to plunge the world into the greatest war in history.

Europe´s largest economy Germany, which has been criticized for not doing enough to help struggling euro zone countries, has topped a poll as the world´s most popular country. The survey carried out for the BBC, polled 26,000 people in 25 countries, and asked them to rate 16 countries and the European Union, as a whole, on whether their influence on the world was mainly positive or negative. Germany came out on top, with 59 percent of the survey´s participants awarding it a positive rating. The country moved up three percentage points from its 2012 position.

The IRS scandal smoking gun?

COLLEGE PARK, Md- In the Internal Revenue Service targeting scandal and others, Washington and the media are obsessed with the question: What did the president know and when did he know it? That misses the point. Barack Obama´s presidency is much more damaging to the nation than the mistakes of subordinates now coming to light. Most recently, we learned Obama met with anti-Tea Party IRS Union President Colleen Kelley just before the tax agency began targeting conservative groups. Is that the smoking gun? Was the president in on the plan to harass opponents of big government?

Tea party storm largely

WASHINGTON - Three days of congressional hearings about the Internal Revenue Service´s targeting of conservative political groups have lawmakers looking for ways to widen an investigation that has so far been largely contained within the tax collection agency. More than 11 hours of testimony and an inspector general´s report have revealed plenty of wrongdoing within the IRS. But so far, investigators have not produced evidence that anyone outside the IRS authorized the targeting, or even knew about it before a few weeks ago. They will keep trying. Three congressional committees are investigating the matter, and the leaders of those committees

A Wall Street Journal editorial socks it to the president and his hands-off management style. Every day brings new revelations about who knew what about the IRS targeting conservative groups during President Obama´s re-election campaign, but the overall impression is of a vast federal bureaucracy run amok. While the White House continues to peddle the story of a driverless train wreck, taxpayers are being treated to a demonstration of the dangers of an unwieldy and unaccountable administrative state. Look, Ma, no hands! In his press events, Mr. Obama has said that while he learned about the Cincinnati rogues

It could have been a match made in tax haven. A young Michelle Obama once dated the inspector general who recently uncovered the IRS scandal, according to a bombshell report. The future First Lady, then known as Michelle Robinson, reportedly dated J. Russell George, the current IRS top watchdog responsible for investigating the widening trouble at the tax agency, while the two were at Harvard Law School in the 1980s, the National Journal reported. The power pair were both members of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) and graduated together in 1988, and at the very least, shared a few

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state
