Stem cell foe named
chair of science panel

Atlanta Journal-Constitution, by Aaron Gould Sheinin

Original Article

Posted By:Hermoine, 1/23/2013 9:01:30 AM

The new head of the state House Committee on Science and Technology is a social conservative who has used a moral compass to question scientific research, but who says he knows the importance biotechnology has on the state’s economy. Rep. Ed Setzler, R-Acworth, has previously led efforts to ban research on embryonic stem cells and sponsored a bill making it illegal to implant people with microchips against their will. Setzler, beginning his fifth term in the House, is also a frequent sponsor of bills to restrict abortions. The 42-year-old is an engineer and retired Army Ranger.

Comments:
Just another example of journalistic malpractice, or better yet, warfare by journalism. Oh, the horror, this guy is against EMBRYONIC stem cell research and happens to believe that it might just be a violation of your privacy to have micro-chip implanted in you against your will. Seriously, what an absolute extremist. How will the country survive with these types of people serving in leadership!?

There´s been a media black-out of advances made in non-embryonic stem cell research. They conflate the two when they are actually worlds apart. Perhaps this legislator can actually bring this info to light.

Typical libs.....you have to read the article to see that it´s ´´embryonic stem cell´´ research that is opposed and not just the congressman being against ´´stem cell´´ research. The horror of it all.

Is this a problem? Is he a Cretan? Is he a foe of adult stem cells (which work) or embryonic stem cells (which require destruction of life and do not work).
Is there a problem with morals watching over "science?"

With apologies to residents of Crete.

Mr. Sheinin of the Atlanta Journal and Constipation, can you name one single technical advance or cure that has been brought about by embreyonic stem cell research, just one, I´m waiting......... I didn´t think so. Now why don´t you do what reporters are supposed to do, a little research on the subject and then you can list all the advances and cures brought about by Adult Stem cell research. Aaron, you should be ashamed to call yourself a reporter.

Number 8 misses the point. Democrats are not interested in truth, but only in manipulating public opinion. And 50% of the US is uneducated[ or has a warped public school education] so propaganda becomes truth for them.

#9 -- BINGO. And therein lies the problem for Republicans/Conservatives/Independents, (anyone not Democrat).

My husband was moaning and groaning last night about how the GOP has to market itself better. I told him, all the marketing in the WORLD will not work if one of the main methods in getting your "message to market" is the press. Not only will they not let your message get through, they will re-write, lie and fabricate to make sure the message you are trying to convey is either lost in the noise or twisted entirely to make you look bad.

I don´t have the answer, but I do know, this article is just one small example of the deck being stacked against us.

Reply 11 - Posted by: Bumblebee, 1/23/2013 2:35:57 PM     (No. 9134708)

I remember Ronald Reagan ran against the press and the Republicans in charge using his personality and a few upbeat phrases and he won.
You have to be likeable because people don´t know or care too much about issues. That was our problem with Romney. The only reason George W. Bush won was personality [I thought he was as dumb as a box of rocks] He meant well, but didn´t ride herd on the Wall Street abuses, and letting that idiot general [what´s his name] make so many blunders in Iraq until Bush finally appointed Petraeus who straightened things up.
We don´t need a dour faced Dole again or a plastic smiling Romney.

DENVER — Because of a paperwork error, the suspect in last month´s killing of Colorado´s corrections chief was freed from prison in January — four years earlier than authorities intended. Judicial officials acknowledged Monday that Evan Spencer Ebel´s previous felony conviction had been inaccurately recorded and his release was a mistake. In 2008, Ebel pleaded guilty in rural Fremont County to assaulting a prison officer. In the plea deal, Ebel was to be sentenced to up to four additional years in prison, to be served after he completed the eight-year sentence that put him behind bars in 2005, according to a statement from Colorado's 11th Judicial District.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
