Donald Trump Exploring Improbable Ways
He Might Buy the New York Times

New York Magazine, by Joe Hagan

Original Article

Donald Trump has spent a lot of time in the last year trying to make news, first with his birther obsession, and more recently demanding comedian Bill Maher pay him $5 million. (Maher offered the sum for proof Trump wasn’t the “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Trump released his own birth certificate and threatened to sue Maher for the money.) Now Trump is exploring ways to make news in a more literal way: by acquiring the New York Times. According to sources familiar with the situation,

Love the Donald. This showman would either turn this dying leftist rag around or at least make an interesting TV show out of telling Tom Freidman, Maureen Dowd, Paul Krugman and the rest, "You´re fired!"

The Times is committing suicide, so why try to stop it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. The Trump Times. The Old Grey Lady gets a facelift and an orange hair combover.

He cheapens an already cheap rag just by buying it. Brilliant! Then hand it off to Carlos Slim like an old used up strumpet.

Fitting end to a ´newspaper´ that prides itself in having no funnies.

And in the first issue of the Trump New York Times, Donald could print the pictures of the looks on the faces of all the hack "journalists" learning they now work for The Donald. That issue would sell millions from coast to coast.

He should wait a litle while, until the price is one dollar, like Newstweak.

I think it would be a good idea if more rich Repubs would buy up these Lib Papers.

Now THAT wold be helpful. Possibly more so than any of us can really imagine. All their BS has an origin, and the Times could well be argued to qualify as such.

#4, that definitely would get me to go into a Starbucks to buy an issue. I think this is something that should be explored by our side. But you realize that because it is somebody from our side doing the buying, the left would rather close down shop then let our side own the publication.

#8, I never saw a liberal who would turn down money. It even outweighs loyalty to their beliefs and conscience, if they ever had one. So, I wouldn´t be surprised if Trump did purchase it.

Trump trying to make news??? Hagan is trying to make a news story out of his very own opinion. That isn´t news either.

#6...I´m with you on this.

Just picture it, Conservatives owning the NY Times, Chicago Tribune and L.A. Times!

Ok ok, back on my meds.

Donald, some tips.

Blackface...be real rich...hide who you are behind numerous corporations...be a foreigner to them...be excessively Lib...buy off the cronies...and you´re in.

It would be easier to buy their advertisers off and force them into bankruptcy.

Wow, last week I fantasized that Murdock would buy the NYT, and get journalists by actively recruiting from places like Hillsdale College. What a coup that would be. I would subscribe to the times if it became conservative. The Donald would make things really interesting.

“That’s a very serious offense that happened where Republicans on the Hill, we voluntarily provided these e-mails to, took one of them, doctored it and gave it to ABC News in an attempt to smear the president.” — White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer, appearing on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” May 19, 2013

The president hasn’t attempted to distance himself from the Associated Press snooping campaign. To the contrary, he offered “no apologies.” To be blunt, he approves the most invasive breach of the First Amendment against any news organization in the history of the republic. No president has tried this and for good reason. We now have yet another media abuse story, in a way much more severe. The Post breaks the story that the Obama administration indulged in excruciatingly invasive spying on James Rosen of Fox News and, in an unprecedented move, asserted that his newsgathering is criminal.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

In the days since the Internal Revenue Service first disclosed that it had targeted conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, new information has emerged from both the Treasury Inspector General’s report and congressional testimony Friday that calls into question key statements made by Lois G. Lerner, the IRS’s director of the exempt organizations division. The clumsy way the IRS disclosed the issue as well as Lerner’s press briefing by phone were seen at the time as a public relations disaster.

The Obama administration’s sudden plunge into scandal territory has two aspects — the actual and the political. The first, and most important, has to do with what actually happened. Why did the administration promulgate a false account of the terror attack on Benghazi? Why did the Internal Revenue Service target conservative groups for special scrutiny? Why did the Justice Department act in an unprecedented fashion toward The Associated Press for publishing details of a foiled terror plot the White House was planning to discuss openly the next day?

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" WASHINGTON – White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said Sunday Republicans owe Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, an apology for alleging she played a part in formulating the White House’s response to the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, last year that killed four Americans. Pfeiffer said on ABC’s “This Week” that the release of more than 100 pages of Benghazi emails and notes show “beyond a shadow of the doubt” that accusations she tried to change the narrative of what happened in the attacks was false. "And, frankly, I think that many of the Republicans
