Is Liberalism Doomed?

Liberals are feeling triumphant these days, but in the backs of their minds there must be a sense of foreboding. They won this year by demonizing Republicans and by bribing various demographic groups with government largesse. But the Left’s tactical victory can’t conceal the fact that its ideology is bankrupt. The left’s real enemy isn’t Republicans, it is arithmetic. Welfare states are collapsing all around the world. Ours is on the same course. It is commonly observed that America’s entitlement programs are Ponzi schemes, which is correct. What is less often noted is that federal government spending

Republicans demonized themselves, with idiots like Akin and Mourdock.

Democrat teachers are dumbing down generations of Americans, so their students will believe Democrat politicians when they blame the coming collapse on Republicans.
Republican journalists keep expecting American voters to sober up and vote rationally. A forlorn expectation, that.

The liberals have already adjusted to their bloated 2010 budget and are sniffing for more revenues. They still cling to the idea that the rich can be bled for the necessary funds to complete their scheme. They keep forgetting the rich are their own people.

Agreed #1. However, look at the democrats. They have plenty of nut jobs who should never be in positions of power. What the GOP is lacking is messaging. We have the right message but no one to articulate it. It really is just a math thing easily understood. Our guys should be ridiculing the policies of the left. We throw around the word trillion and that number has no meaning for the average Joe. Come on. This isn´t rocket science. Put together a clever humorous ad campaign that shows what we all know. You can´t spend more than you take in. Time to think outside the box. This is not your father´s electorate. Meet them at their level. And one time, I would like to see one of our guys laugh in the face of the media fool who believes Obama´s lies.

You´d think there would be a helluva joyous mood from the Left, but they are still angry and bitter and unhappy.

We are hearing a chorus condemning in hindsight any conservative who ever won a primary vs a RINO and then lost the general election. They don´t mention the successes that have happened. When you fight you sometimes win and sometimes loose. By listing the losses and never the wins some trolls ( #1 ) are telling us to never fight and never win and go on forever working for RINOS.. Besides Akin was not a good example he was funded by Murkowski - as Romney was supported by Obama. We need to toss the RINOS in favour of real articulate conservatives and stop looking to the RATS for winning advice.

The thugsocrats will be ok while the rest suffer. The fawning media is to blame, giving oblamo a progressive wind behind his back.

Folks 2014 might be the end. Biden in 2016. Proof the dumb are getting dumber.

If the GOP is really what the Media and the Left makes it out to be, I wouldn´t touch them with a ten foot pole. But the fact is they are not and the ´Rat Party is intellectually more bankrupt than 0bama´s Treasury. Who you gonna call? Spells only one way P-A-L-I-N.

The next recession will probably do us all in. Obama & Co. are currently running massive deficits just to maintain 2% annual GDP. Imagine what will happen if/when that money supply from China gets choked off and our economy is shrinking at the same time? Something will collapse, and it won´t be pretty.

No. 6, Romney was not supported by Obama. Where did you pic up such nonsense? I´d like to see more than a statement, show me some evidence.

To answer the question, is Liberalism doomed? Yes. It´s going down in the collapse it is bringing about and it is taking us down with it. But, don´t worry, the people who wouldn´t vote for Romney will still have their principles and can still join the Democrats in blaming the Republicans.

Reply 14 - Posted by: Bubby, 1/23/2013 9:56:50 AM     (No. 9133933)

The trouble with the GOP is that they are partnering with the Dems on all the entitlement programs so they don´t get any bad press from the msm. If the GOP tries to cut spending they are called racists and worse. Let the moderate and elite Republicans join the Democrat Party. Time for a new party that believes in and adheres to the Constitution. The current GOP leaders will do nothing significant to end the trillion dollar deficits. Any budget they come up with doesn´t get balanced for ten years which we all know will never happen.

Romney was the ideal candidate for Obama because of RomneyCare the basis for Obamacare. He never could really oppose this hated program saying it was good for a state but not for the federal government! Romney was also wealthy, the perfect foil for Obamas demagoguery against the "rich" which was used very effectively. Romney never really rebutted this nonsense. Why not make some comparisons of jobs from Bain Capital vs Obama trillion dollar continuing stimulus? Obamas demonization of Romney began the moment he had secured the nomination. Romney never attacked Obama as he did his rivals for the nomination. There is none so blind as those who will not see!

At a secret February ceremony at CIA headquarters in Langley, Va., the chief of the CIA’s base in Benghazi the night of the 9/11 anniversary attacks there was awarded one of the agency’s highest intelligence medals, according to U.S. military and intelligence officials. The honor given behind closed doors to “Bob,” the officer who was in charge of the Benghazi intelligence annex and CIA base that was attacked in the early morning of September 12, 2012 and then abandoned for nearly three weeks, illustrates the murky lines of command that preceded the attack, and helped make it a politically volatile issue.

The Senate on Monday opened debate on a $955 billion farm bill that would reduce federal spending by as much as $23 billion over the next 10 years by cutting funding for food stamps and eliminating some farm-support programs. "This legislation will create jobs, cut taxpayer subsidies and reduce the deficit," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Monday. The White House offered only conditional support for the bill, an indication that lawmakers will need to make changes to win the president´s signature. The Obama administration in April called for a 3 percent reduction in the nation´s crop insurance program,

Journalists are understandably alarmed by the revelation that President Barack Obama´s Justice Department targeted Fox News reporter James Rosen during a leak investigation of a State Department employee. The news, reported by the Washington Post late Sunday night, reveals that the Obama administration will apparently stop at nothing to track down whistle-blowers who leak classified information. In Rosen´s case, that included implicating him as a "criminal co-conspirator" whose actions were punishable with up to 10 years in prison. While it is not uncommon for the government to investigate leaks, it is unprecedented for a journalist

The first lady went to Bowie State and addressed the graduating class. Her speech was a mix of black history and a salute to the graduates. (Snip) It takes a man of particular vision to know, as Obama did, that the country really was ready to send an African American to the White House. But I also think that some day historians will pore over his many speeches to black audiences. They will see a president who sought to hold black people accountable for their communities, but was disdainful of those who looked at him and sought the same.

And yes, I realize that headline is eight words too long. Peter Nicholas at the WSJ: The White House’s chief lawyer learned weeks ago that an audit of the Internal Revenue Service likely would show that agency employees inappropriately targeted conservative groups, a senior White House official said Sunday. That disclosure has prompted a debate over whether the president should have been notified at that time. In the week of April 22, the Office of the White House Counsel and its head, Kathryn Ruemmler, were told by Treasury Department attorneys

Remember Armand Armendariz, the Environmental Protection Agency regional administrator who resigned after regaling an audience of Big Green activists with a history lesson to illustrate his agency´s approach to critics of the EPA´s harshest policies? When the Romans conquered a new province, he said, they would "... find the first five guys they saw and they´d crucify them ..." to make the province "really easy to manage for the next few years." The EPA, he continued, also makes "examples of people who are not complying with the law, you make examples out of them,

The Democratic candidates for mayor in New York are campaigning to win the support of the teachers union. They threaten to return the city to the horrors of the David Dinkins era. Back at the turn of the 1990s, New York City was a mess. Crime was rampant. The schools were dreadful. Children in foster care were brutalized because–as the head of the Child Welfare Agency said–”oversight is racist.” The mayor was an incompetent. And, above all, the city was run for the benefit of its employees rather than its citizens. What followed was 20 years of governance

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

WASHINGTON – White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said Sunday Republicans owe Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, an apology for alleging she played a part in formulating the White House’s response to the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, last year that killed four Americans. Pfeiffer said on ABC’s “This Week” that the release of more than 100 pages of Benghazi emails and notes show “beyond a shadow of the doubt” that accusations she tried to change the narrative of what happened in the attacks was false. "And, frankly, I think that many of the Republicans
