Do Gun Control Laws Control Guns?

The gun control controversy is only the latest of many issues to be debated almost solely in terms of fixed preconceptions, with little or no examination of hard facts. Media discussions of gun control are dominated by two factors: the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment. But the over-riding factual question is whether gun control laws actually reduce gun crimes in general or murder rates in particular. If, as gun control advocates claim, gun control laws really do control guns and save lives, there is nothing to prevent repealing the Second Amendment, any more than there

You should have and use as many bullets as it takes to accomplish the task.

A definite bullseye, Dr. Sowell!

Can anyone cite ONE case, where any law, prevented a criminal, from committing his crime?

Lanza broke 41 laws in Newtown. Would the 42nd law have stopped him?

If gun control worked, Chicago would be utopia.

Nobody is asking to repeal the Second Amendment, Dr. Sowell. Breathe!

I heard Stevie Wonder make a good point the other night. He is totally blind. Under today´s laws, he can purchase all the guns and ammunitions that his heart desires. Why? How can the same people who think it is okay to deny unlimited weapons to 2 year olds think that every single adult, in every single situation, needs the unshackled ability to purchase weapons?

There are reasonable limitations on the purchase of guns. We all agree that 2 year olds shouldn´t have them. How about...agreeing that some people can voluntarily put their names on lists and not be sold guns? That isn´t possible today. Why should psychotic individuals who were hospitalized involuntarily go on the list...but not psychotic individuals who were hospitalized voluntarily? Why can´t there be waiting periods, to avoid scenes like the Dallas woman with depression who bought a gun last month and immediately killed herself in the parking lot of the gun store?

Do drug control laws control drugs? Did Prohibition control alcohol?

Unfortunately, many voters live in a fantasy world.

#5 "professing to be wise they opened their mouths (in your case the keyboard) and become fools".
apparently you do not understand the 2nd amendment which is to protect us from our own government in case it become tyrannical, and your BLIND allegiance to this socialist government shows your ignorance in an understanding of the constitution. you use a foolish argument about a blind man who´s only claim to fame is he can play the piano and sing, whoop de doo, why not quote from people who have saved others from being killed by having a weapon carried on them. I can cite other blind people who can and do safely use firearms, do they conceal and carry probably not, but their hearing was so accurate along with other senses when at a rife range they could put a pattern in the black just from the voice commands. The lady you cited if she didn´t get a gun would have found another way to destroy her life. You use platitudes to make your facts and yet know nothing of the real facts of the results of gun control. As the saying goes when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns, and one last thought, criminals will always find a weapon to provide them with a means to accomplish what they have set out to do. Weapons BTW obtained without government over site.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

Celebrity chef Paula Deen admitted in a recorded deposition to telling racist jokes, using the N-word, and planning a slavery-themed wedding, according to multiple reports. The May 17 deposition where she made the alleged admissions is part of a $1.2 million lawsuit brought by Lisa Jackson, the former manager of a Savannah, Georgia, restaurant run by Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers. Jackson alleges in the suit that Deen used the N-word at the restaurant and that Hiers sexually harassed her. According to the reports, in the deposition, Deen replied “Yes, of course,”

This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete
