"First they came for the local radio hosts...." If you want a glimpse into the real, practical mechanisms whereby unprincipled political power diminishes and silences opposing voices, look not to the nationally-publicized attacks on Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck. Look to what happens at the local level, to people who do not have a national microphone and millions of defenders. Consider the example of Brainerd, Minnesota´s (population 13,613) local conservative radio show.
Comments: Boston is down from 3 talk stations to one. A team of liberal talkers have found a home on the local NPR outlet, the good conservative talkers are looking for work. Long article but with the 1.6 Billion kitty that was posted last week, I don´t doubt it is the plan.
WBT 1110 in Charlotte used to be a great, big conservative station. But they have fired all of the conservative local hosts and now have the snotty liberal duo Brad and Britt in the afternoon drivetime slot. Only Rush remains but I choose to listen to him online. After WBT fired their fabulous conservative host Tara Servatius in 2010, I was so furious I quit listening.
Busting Britches, Kemo Sabe!!! Just wait until they dust off the fairness doctrine! The stars align. He´s gonna go for broke. Were I Rush with his bundle I´d move to Costa Rica and ignore the quagmire of takers. He has done all he can. Now it´s just gonna eat him up alive.
Would like for Rush to be more practical and less pie in the sky. Optimism is a hallmark of conservatism, but the hard reality is our country is gone. I have come to terms with that. However, I will not abide being subject to liberalism. Maybe it´s too much to ask, but I would love to hear some discussion from Rush on actionable ideas to secure our freedoms.
Shutting down these oafs would be very good for the GOP. These people are very entertaining yet they´ve already cost us 5 Senate seats and they kneecapped Romney straight out of the gate. Their ratings soar as America circles the toilet bowl. Conservatism needs more rationalism, less hysterical demagoguery.
Air America was funded privately and still didn´t work because 1. Shrill mob anger isn´t entertaining 2. Hosts enducated in public schools aren´t thoughtful 3. Conservatives listen to Rush while out in car doing work (something Obama doesn´t require). 4. Communists are untalented
But here is Obamination fact: 1. America´s credit has been downgraded 2. We borrow money to pay Obamas bills (tell your grandkids) 3. Unemployment among black Americans in 35+%
Starting in August of this year, here in MA, we have lost the ability to listen to at least 10 conservative talk-show hosts(esses also). And as far as I can see, no one seems to want to talk about it. If the idiot in the whitehouse goes after the remaining talk show hosts (Limbaugh, Levin and Savage)that will finish it here in MA. And we will silently submit.
This is an excellently presented article. Here’s its money quote:
“Having learned the hard way that liberal talk radio cannot compete for listeners with conservative hosts -- the reason is obvious, and explains the "need" for NPR: extended political discussion, in order to be engaging, requires rational arguments and supporting facts, which leftists cannot provide.”
The major difference between conservatives and liberals is that conservatives think for themselves while liberals have others do their thinking for them.
Left wingers are very good at intimidating potential advertisers. Their favorite tactic is to classify every conservative position as ´´hate speech´´. I don´t care how good your ratings are - if you can´t sell ad space you can´t stay in business. (That was the likely reason Beck had to leave Fox - only niche businesses like gold salesmen were willing to buy air time with him.)
Actually they are doing very well but.... for me what is killing conservative radio is:
Hearing Rush under cutting republicans and too much whining then slipping in a commercial during the talking and Sean Hannity reading his talking points loudly and often and Mark Levine speaking normally then yelling or the drip drip of condescension from Michael Medved or the Heidi Harris, Brian Whitman and Ben Shapiro show. I can listen Ben & Heidi but the liberal Brian has got to go. Stop pretending liberals are equal. Their ideas are bad. See evidence around the world.
Here in LA we have morning shows 640 KFI Bill Handle (vote obama liberal who can´t hold a coherent thought very long) and Kabc 790 Doug McIntyre who is on just long enough to tell you part of a story then another commercial comes on and repeat. I think it takes him 1 hour to tell a 3 min story.
Conservative talk radio seems to be in fine shape here in the Southeast near Savannah, GA. We have a good local Conservative talk show host Bill Edwards in the mornings from 6 to 9 AM on 1290 WTKS. Rush can be heard on at least 6 different stations up and down the dial in the afternoons. We have Glenn Beck twice a day, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and a few others weekdays. Conservative Radio Heaven down here.
It was November 12th. His wife was on the phone and she was reading an email that she had just received from her boss at Sallie Zetterower Elementary School in Statesboro, Ga. “As of today, if you have a Bible verse on your school email and/or Bible verse posted in the classroom, please remove it immediately,” the email read. But it was the next part of the email that made Mr. Cook tremble. “If a student-led prayer is initiated, you must remove yourself and step away from the group,” the email read. Mr. Cook told me in a telephone interview that he was dumbfounded. “They have to physically turn their back
(Anchorage) In the three weeks since the U.S. Indian Law & Order Commission chastised Alaska for opposing Natives who want their own village cops and courts, chairman Troy Eid says he´s been called a radical and an outsider who shouldn´t be sticking his nose where it doesn´t belong. Eid swept aside such criticism Wednesday when the commission officially presented its report in Anchorage. He declared that Alaska "was on the wrong track" and that public safety and security were so bad in rural Alaska, especially for women and children, that it had become a national disgrace. Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
For as long as anyone can remember, teachers at Brooklet Elementary School have posted Christmas cards in the hallways outside their classrooms – until Monday. When boys and girls returned from Thanksgiving break, they discovered that their teachers’ Christmas cards had been removed – under orders from the Georgia school’s administration. Robb Kicklighter’s wife is a third grade teacher at the school. He said many teachers are disgruntled by the school’s decision to confiscate the Christmas cards. “They took down the cards so the kids can’t see them,” he told me. “Some of the cards had the word ‘Christmas’ and
A stunning 40 percent of the staff at the state agency that oversees the glitch-plagued, befuddling $69 million Obamacare website earn six-figure salaries, according to payroll numbers obtained by the Herald. Some 21 of the 53 employees at the Massachusetts Health Connector make more than $100,000 a year, even as Bay Staters struggle to sign up for health care through a website beset by slow speeds and technical difficulties and a call center with frequently long hold times. Topping the list is Executive Director Jean Yang, who is pulling down $179,243. Chief Operating Officer Roni Mansu earns $178,415, while General
Washington - US President Barack Obama called Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu on Sunday from Air Force One to discuss the interim agreement struck between world powers and Iran over its controversial nuclear program. In the call, Obama told Netanyahu that the P5+1 — the US, United Kingdom, France, Russia, China and Germany — would use the next several months to forge a "lasting, peaceful and comprehensive" solution to the slow-motion nuclear crisis causing consternation throughout the Middle East. (Snip) Netanyahu on Sunday called the deal, hailed by the US, a "historic mistake" that would make the region more
The state’s $69 million Obamacare website is “overbudget,” has missed deadlines and now is bringing in eleventh-hour engineering assistance from Oracle, in the face of looming cutoff dates that could force some to go without health insurance, the Herald has learned. The fix comes after the Herald reported Saturday a mere 1 percent of applicants facing canceled health plans had managed to enroll in Obamacare plans through the state’s website, with just weeks before many plans ?expire Dec. 31. Gov. Deval Patrick yesterday brushed off any concerns about the system. “No, none at all,” said Patrick when asked if he
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
More young men in California rise in pitch at the end of their sentences when talking, new research shows. This process is known as "uptalk" or "valleygirl speak" and has in the past been associated with young females, typically from California or Australia. But now a team says that this way of speaking is becoming more frequent among men.The findings were presented at the Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in California. "We found use of uptalk in all of our speakers, despite their diverse backgrounds in socioeconomic status, ethnicity, bilingualism and gender," said Amanda Ritchart, a linguist at the University of
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
