Obama declares war on reality
Telegraph [UK], by James Delingpole

Original Article

When George W Bush declared war on an abstract noun--"Terror"--he was widely and inevitably mocked by the left for his foolishness. Not to be outdone, Barack Obama has used his second inaugural address to declare war on an even more nebulous threat to the security of the world: reality, itself.[Snip]The first sentence is a blatant untruth. Concerted global action so far to deal with the threat of climate change has resulted in: higher energy prices; more deaths from fuel poverty; more intrusive regulation; the destruction of rainforests and the squandering of agricultural land on biofuels; higher food prices;

James at his best.

War on Reality, yes, But what the Left really boils down to is a War on Humanity.

We´re now spending an incredible $80 billion a year on food stamps and the overwhelming majority of those people are able bodied enough to do some work. In Obama´s alternative universe, this is a sign of government success, not a disgrace to the jobless situation in this country as we free wheel ourselves towards national bankruptcy.

the idea of working is becoming obsolete except if you can land a cushy government job.

The post office is a microcosm of all that´s wrong in government administration but according to Obama we can´t turn back to the failures of the recent past.

You have branches of the gov´t being ordered by Obama to cook the books on the real unemployment rate. Isn´t it just amazing that the 7.8% figure matches exactly the rate as when Obama took over. Never mind that there´s millions less in the workforce.

I like James concept of the attack on reality - when you oconsider all the things we always beleived in as normal, you have to agrre that nothing is normal anymore - fantasy reigns.

This is all very simple to understand, Mr. Delingpole.

The “threat of climate change” is being used by anthrophobic environmentalists to punish consumption and curtail human activity.

It is being used by grant-seeking academics for job security.

It is being used by politicians to extract campaign contributions from “green” industries that require subsidies to operate, bribes from businesses that would be adversely affected by a tangled web of costly regulations, and kickbacks from operators of carbon credit exchanges that were created out of thin air.

It is being used by the U.N. to extract wealth from rich nations to bribe the leaders of poor nations to remain underdeveloped.

And it is being used by China, Russia, and India to gain advantage over the West.

There is no consensus describing an ideal global climate, no ceiling on what climate change alarmists are willing to spend in an attempt to preserve today’s climate, and no serious consideration of whether it makes more moral and economic sense to simply adapt to warmer or cooler global climates.

Climate change alarmism is simply the greatest scientific, political and economic scam ever perpetrated in history.

Yes #6 made it very simple to understand. Thanks for the run-down on the climate change scam. We should all memorize those points and be prepared to repeat over and over until this farce is finally put to bed.

When Bush declared war on "Terror", he wasn´t only derided by liberals. Anyone with a brain knew what that meant no matter which side of the aisle you were on...as long as you could keep redefining "Terror", you could keep a "War" going that would profit a few at the expense of the rest of us.

It took us 3-1/2 years to defeat the Japanese and the Nazis. It´s now 10 years later and things aren´tany better...Where´s that darned ol´ "Terror" hiding out? We oughta go get him!! We are all so totally scr***d.

Great list, #6, to which I would add only: It is being used by self-righteous, hypocritical "environmentalists" like DiCaprio (and like my brother and sister-in-law)to make the rest of us SUV-driving schlubs feel guilty and make themselves appear superior.

´´Still, for all that, I applaud the President´s chutzpah and ingenuity.´´ I think that´s one hand clapping, but that´s lovely using a Jewish word to describe that man´s ´´war.´´

The article concludes, ´´Obama´s glorious war on reality will be a war without end. Bad luck, America.´´ There I have to disagree. It´s not luck; it´s reaping the whirlwind. After all the blessings this nation has been given, the people turned away from the loving Father who had bestowed them. No luck involved there. It´s a direct consequence that people who deal in reality could predict. Neither is it without end. Read the back of The Book.

Air pollution in China and other Asian countries is causing storms in North America to become stronger and changing weather patterns across the Northern Hemisphere, a new Nasa study has claimed. [Snip] The effect was most pronounced during the winter, the team said. Lead author Yuan Wang, from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, said: ´There appears to be little doubt that these particles from Asia affect storms sweeping across the Pacific and subsequently the weather patterns in North America and the rest of the world. ´The effects are quite dramatic.

According to figures compiled by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Moscow spent 4.1 percent of its GDP on defence in 2013, an increase of 0.6 percent over the past 10 years. By contrast, the United States spent 3.8 percent of GDP on defence and Britain spent just 2.3 percent. The only neighbouring country that spends more is Azerbaijan, with 4.7 percent. Defence spending in Ukraine has also rocketed by 16 percent in the space of a year following the crisis in Crimea and continued tensions with Russia over the eastern provinces of the country. Russia´s military spending relative to GDP is now

Up to 11 people are believed dead after airborne Ukrainian troops seized an airport in the country´s rebellious east today in the first sign that a promised ´anti-terror operation´ had begun against pro-Russian separatists. Heavy gunfire was heard at Kramatorsk airport as Ukraine´s interim president announced that his forces had retaken the site from militants who been seizing control of cities since last week. Local media reported between four to 11 deaths in the attack, but there was no immediate confirmation of any casualties. Russia said it was ´deeply concerned´ over reports of casualties in the region today. It comes

Even by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change´s own lamentable standards, its new report--by Working Group III of the Fifth Assessment Report--makes no sense whatsoever. [Snip] Before the report´s formal release, US officials--who had seen an earlier draft--wrote to the United Nations demanding it be amended. "The discussion of the economic costs of mitigation is too narrow and does not incorporate co-benefits of action." Loosely translated this means: "If we admit how much we´re spending to such little purpose, the taxpaying public is going to kill us." So the report was duly amended to suggest that the benefits of wind turbines, solar panels,

Her dark, macabre tales of Gothic romance and revenge have enthralled millions of readers and remain in print decades after her death. But for Daphne du Maurier, the wealth and worldwide fame she earned from novels such as Rebecca and Jamaica Inn were a poor substitute for the acclaim she craved from literary critics who dismissed her as a second-rank “romantic novelist”. Now her only son, Kits Browning, speaking for the first time ahead of the BBC’s three-part adaptation of Jamaica Inn, has criticised the “Hampstead literati” for overlooking one of the last century’s most original literary talents. A total lunar eclipse will turn the moon a dark blood red tonight. Just after Mars reaches its closest point to earth in six years, a distance of a mere 57.4 million miles, a total lunar eclipse will spectacularly change the colour of the moon. But don´t get too twitchy with the curtains in the early hours--only people in north and south America will be able to see it with the naked eye. If you live in the UK, mainland Europe or most of the rest of the world by far your best chance of seeing the eclipse is right

If there was a standard operating manual for the secret services of the world´s dodgier regimes, it would no doubt omit any mention of the term "agent provocateur". In Russia, Burma, Iran et al, state-backed agents never get involved in causing trouble. Instead, there are only "patriotic local citizens", who, unable to contain themselves, rise up in righteous indignation against those who might betray the nation. That, if Russia is to be believed, is exactly what it happening in eastern Ukraine right now. According to a statement this morning from the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, there are "no Russian

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.” The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth. The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it
