| CHICAGO - While delivering mail on Chicago´s North Side, Lakesha Dortch-Hardy spoke about how much she loves her job at the U.S. Postal Service, and how much it would hurt if jobs such as hers were to disappear. "These jobs are the middle class ..." said Dortch-Hardy, a tall, energetic 38-year-old, who took long strides as she wheeled her cart along a row of two- and three-story brick apartment houses. "Without this job, I don´t know where I´d be right now." The cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service has eliminated 168,000 jobs since 2006, and more cuts could result

If this isn´t predictable and right on cue? The White House gives Reuters the scarey headline. Politicians need to stand firm ! These are JOBS - not "black" jobs.

They are as comfortable in their racism as a plantation owner.
It´s as though the whole ´civil rights´ movement was just a tribal squabble over dominance and whites lost.
Takes quite a bit of the high phalootin´, look down your nose, uppity sense of moral superiority out of it if it´s just a struggle for favorable entitlements.

The article discusses jobs in Chicago, not the US, like the headline suggests.
I live in No Cal. and our mail carrier and 90% of those employeed at my local PO are Asian.
And if the PO is losing so much money per year, then maybe it should examine its work force, rather than blame e-mail and hi-tech commercial transactions.
This is nothing but a scare tactic to allow unqualified, over paid, union due paying Democrats to suck off the hideously overly gross federal teat. Just like any other BO federal program.

The article doesn´t mention that in the 1960s and 1970s the USPS had preferential hiring of Black employees at Post Offices ............. to make up for previous job discrimination. [A period during which I never saw a ´non minority´ Black employee at my local post office].
In the 1980s I started seeing Asian employees at the USPS offices, later more white women, but NO new white men.
I saw union reps protecte these employees from disciplinary complaints ............. and I often suspected that some had sent ´ringers´ in to take written exams ......... as well as fudging qualification ie High School diplomas.
I have never grieved when ´under qualified´, ´over paid´ govt. employees lost their jobs.
PLUS their Health and Pension Plans have always been overly generous compared to privet sector employees.

If we let Fed Ex and UPS deliver the mail, the price of a letter would be about half of what it costs now, and the postal slugs of the world could get real jobs flipping burgers, instead of making $53,000 a year to carry a beat up leather bag.

I´m surprised that Obama hasn´t attempted to solve this problem by raising the postal rate to $8.00 for a first class letter. That would fix the problem.

When we called her in it-she smiled and pulled out another one and commented they did the same thing 95%blacks voted color- days of cries of racism are OVER. There is no reason for a white male to apply at the USPS because the deck is stacked a mile high against them. Points for being minority, points for female, more for being poor, more for never working a day in their life. Then they take a test but it doesn´t matter how you do on the test, it only matters how many points you have.

Gov´t jobs are a burden on the economy. If the economy is not strong enough to bear the burden it will be crushed by it. Taxes are a burden. Gov´t spending creates a burden. It doesn´t matter what color the jobs are.

"Without this job, I don´t know where I´d be right now."
You would be where millions of other ´Americans´ are-unemployed and losing there homes.
The postmaster should be where other CEO´s are too-unemployed for not keeping the company in the black.

I still use the USPS for the occasional letter that I have to send. For $0.42 or so to mail a letter clear across the country, it´s still not a bad deal 3 or 4 times a year.
But I wouldn´t mail a package, or do anything else, with the USPS that required me to visit one of the post offices. The ´´service´´ there ALWAYS reminds me of a really bad ´´Saturday Night Live´´ sketch. Total and complete incompetence, complete with very long lines! And, as everyone else has pointed out, usually not any white male faces to be found these days. How that is not illegal discrimination, I just don´t know.
And we pay every one of our bills on-line except for one (that we pay in person) these days. Totally free, and you get instant confirmation that the bill was paid.
We used to mail 150 or so Christmas cards every year. But when the USPS started calling the muslim stamp by whatever stupid muslim holiday it was, but would only call the Christmas stamps ´´holiday stamps´´, they lost our business for that too.
The USPS has been a very failed social experiment over the last 30 years or so.

WASHINGTON — When President Barack Obama pushed his health care overhaul plan through Congress, he counted labor unions among his strongest supporters. But some unions leaders have grown frustrated and angry about what they say are unexpected consequences of the new law — problems that they say could jeopardize the health benefits offered to millions of their members. The issue could create a political headache next year for Democrats facing re-election if disgruntled union members believe the Obama administration and Congress aren´t working to fix the problem.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Federal forecasters are predicting yet another busy hurricane season. Thursday´s outlook calls for 13 to 20 named storms, seven to 11 that strengthen into hurricanes and three to six that become major hurricanes. The prediction by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is more than what is considered an average Atlantic season. Last year was the third-busiest on record with 19 named storms. Ten became hurricanes and two were major storms, with winds over 111 mph. That included Sandy, which caused $50 billion in damage even though it lost

Islamist militants have staged twin suicide car bombings on an army base and a French-run uranium mine in Niger, killing at least 20 people in retaliation for the country´s military involvement in neighbouring Mali. Niger´s Defence Minister Mahamadou Karidjo said the last Islamist was neutralised at the army base and denied early reports that a suicide attacker had held young army recruits hostage. The attacks come just four months after al-Qa´ida linked militants seized a desert gas plant in neighbouring Algeria in a siege that left 38 hostages dead, also in retaliation against the intervention in Mali.

WASHINGTON — Yemen welcomed President Barack Obama´s decision Thursday to lift a moratorium on transferring prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to the Gulf country. Obama announced the decision in a major speech outlining a new bid to close the "war on terror" prison, saying history will "cast a harsh judgment" on the offshore detention program and those who failed to end it. He said he would lift a moratorium in place on transfers of Yemeni detainees to their homeland, name a new envoy to handle the transfers, and ordered the Pentagon to designate a site in the United States

Sears Holdings Corp. The loss of $2.63 a share compared with profit of $189 million, or $1.78 a share, a year earlier, the Hoffman Estates, Illinois-based company said today in a statement. Revenue fell 8.8 percent to $8.45 billion. The company said it is also evaluating options for its Protection Agreement warranty business, including a possible sale. NEW YORK - A company that promised sightseer tours to the Bronx that included a New York City "ghetto" has stopped the bus rides under protest from an outraged neighborhood. Real Bronx Tours, which took mostly European tourists from Manhattan to see life in the South Bronx "from a safe distance," issued a statement this week saying it would immediately cease all tours there. Three times a week, the $45 ride took visitors past food-pantry lines, a housing project and a park a guide described as a pickpocket hangout. Tourists were told they´d get a look at

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Is the worm turning against Barack Obama? After four-plus years of being given the benefit of the doubt by the bulk of the US media, the President now suddenly feels more vulnerable. Today both the New York Times and the Washington Post have run prominent and angry editorials and columns slamming the administration for its attempt to criminalise a Fox News reporter James Rosen for working a State Department source to obtain a story. The "Rosen Affair"--as it is now known--is poisoning the well in Washington at an alarming rate for Mr Obama, with an indignant White House press corps
