| Why is it a crime for a bloke (and an older bloke) to have an opinion these days which isn´t consistent with the noisy social media brigade? Particularly if it is regarding a subject which dares to broach family issues. The venom associated with my comments on breastfeeding has been extraordinary. From being called a buffoon with discriminatory views by the Fairfax Media critic Michael Idato, to being accused of hating kids, being jealous of babies and having a boob fetish. But maybe my views are more representative than the social media critics would have you believe.

When women put some things in your face, it´s hard to ignore. David Koch, who won the Australian Father of the Year award [2007] and claims to have two daughters currently nursing, is now learning the lesson from fabled-icon, Al Bundy. Even "his" NO MA´AM, the "National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood," was almost decimated by a nurse-in at his shoe store. When will we men ever learn?

I am a woman and I don´t like to see people breastfeeding babies in public. So there! Call me Victorian if you like...I wish we could be more like those days.

Well, this was kind of a civilized exchange. David Koch said he was 110% pro-breastfeeding, but that moms should assess the nature of the various public places they´re in, and try to be more modest when necessary. Reasonable.
Then the 100 Lactivists, babes in arms, came and did their thing, so he and his programming people covered their protest, and they had the main Lactivist gal on the show to air her views. Fine.
I actually have a hard time seeing how anyone would disagree with Mr. Koch, since, he´s not against feeding your babies in public, just against creating a spectacle.
Since most nursing moms don´t want to crfeate a spectacle anyhow, what´s to disagree with?
And when the more bumptious boobette types are treated with friendliness --- not catered to exposure-wise, but just handled reasonably --- it probably (I think) makes them calm down some.
A calm mom-and-baby is a quiet mom-and-baby.
There. Settled. Let´s move on.

My wife, my daughter and my sister-in-law all breastfed their babies. But none of them thought it was OK to expose their breasts in public because of modesty and respect for the feelings of others. If a woman must feed her baby in public, she should minimally cover up while doing it. If the breastfeeding exhibitionists want to make something of it, tough for them.

Dubai - Iranian authorities executed two men on Sunday convicted of working for Israeli and U.S. spy agencies, Iran’s Fars news agency reported. Mohammad Heidari, accused of passing security-related in formation and secrets to Israeli Mossad agents in exchange for money, and Kourosh Ahmadi, accused of gathering information for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, were hanged at dawn, it said. The sentence for their execution was handed down by Tehran’s Revolutionary Court and confirmed by the country’s Supreme Court. The report did not say when the pair were arrested nor when their trial took place.

The Vatican has denied claims that Pope Francis performed an exorcism, after TV images showed a man apparently reacting to him putting his hands on his head. The encounter - during Sunday Mass - was shown on a TV channel owned by the Italian bishops´ conference. The station quoted exorcists as saying there was "no doubt" the Pope had either performed an exorcism or a prayer to free the man from the devil. Its director later apologised for "having altered the truth". The Pope´s spokesman said he "did not intend to perform any exorcism".

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.
