Three Los Angeles police officers were returning to their station on Thursday, January 10, when they stopped to help a severely injured dog whose owner said she did not want ‘to fix’ after the dog was hit by a car. The 2-year-old pit bull-Shar Pei mix, who the caring officers named ‘Philly’ after an LAPD sergeant, had been struck at the corner of 108th Street and Central Avenue. Witnesses told the officers the brown pooch had been suffering on the ground with his ribs exposed for at least five hours. ´He was right there on Central for everyone to see,’

Police officers can be good doggies too. Awww!

No picture of the dog´s ´owner´.

That, and the breed speaks volumes to me.

FIVE HOURS - what in hades is wrong with people? With all of the cell phones around and cops someone could not call for help for the poor animal? The owner should be jailed or put out on the busiest road and see what happens to him.

I am terribly sorry for the little dog, but a dog that severely injured should have been euthanized. The $14,000 could have saved a hundred or more dogs that will be euthanized because shelters are simply too full.

Just because we can do something doesn´t always mean that it is the right thing to do.

Agree with three. Americans seem so often to be more concerned with their pets than with their children.

The CONTRIBUTORS of those $14,000 are the ones to determine where their money goes. And whether it is well spent. I agree with them. Leftover funds will be used to help other doggies requiring medical care.

Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Sunday that the IRS scandal reveals a ´culture of intimidation´ in the Obama Administration that is bent on making it more difficult for ´citizens to organize and express themselves.´ In an interview on NBC´s ´Meet the Press´ McConnell, however, backed away from claims by fellow Kentucky Senator Rand Paul that IRS officials has circulated a memo directing tax collectors to give tougher scrutiny to any groups that were critical of the president. ´The investigation has just begun so I´m not going to speculate on what they may find, but what we do know

You´ll remember all that fuss about bees and neonicotinoids last month. It seemed to come out of nowhere--like a flash mob. Suddenly, it was the most urgent cause of the moment for green activists everywhere, with people taking to the streets in bee costumes and celebrities from Vivienne Westwood to Stephen Fry rushing to lend their support. [Snip] Those of us who´ve observed the environmental movement at work, though, will have recognised a familiar pattern here. First, the emergence of a new poster child victim of man´s selfishness and greed: in this case the bee. And we all love bees

Local Conservative party campaigners, including the chairman of one constituency association, will this week pledge their support for Nigel Farage after one of David Cameron’s allies described grassroots Tories as “mad, swivel-eyed loons”. Mr Farage uses an advertisement in Monday´s Telegraph to urge Conservative voters to back Ukip. The “loons” description, he says, is “the ultimate insult” from a party leadership that has betrayed the trust of its own supporters. He writes in the advertisement: “Only an administration run by a bunch of college kids, none of whom have ever had a proper job in their lives, could so

Severe weather has left a violent trail of destruction through the Midwest and South, bringing high winds, heavy rains and tornadoes - and at least one person has been killed. Numerous twisters were spotted on Saturday evening near Rozel, a sparsely populated area in central Kansas. They were also reported to the south in parts of Oklahoma and Iowa. Lightning bolts lit up the sky as the storm moved through. A National Weather Service advisory warned: ´You could be killed if not underground or in a tornado shelter.´ ´Complete destruction of neighborhoods, businesses and vehicles will occur. People in two states were taking shelter amid wailing warning sirens Sunday as tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in Kansas and Oklahoma as part of an extreme weather system plowing through the nation´s midsection. The system, which stretched from North Texas to Minnesota, also heaved hail--dime to softball sized--as well as heavy rainfall. Residents in downtown Wichita, Kan., were told to seek shelter Sunday afternoon after a tornado was confirmed on the ground--with its presence cloaked by thick thunder clouds and heavy rain. Near Oklahoma City, a half-mile wide tornado was reported, prompting a stark alert

In the executive suite on the 11th floor of a former bank building in downtown Columbia, a folk art painting propped up against the wall warns, “Look busy, Jesus is coming.” This is Tony Keck’s office, but he doesn’t need to bother looking busy. [Snip] The core of Keck’s message is that Medicaid, and health insurance generally, isn’t making people healthier. He can’t justify spending more money to expand what he sees as an inefficient program, even if the federal government is offering the state billions of dollars to make that happen.

What was the reason you gave up watching the BBC´s Late Review (or Newsnight Review as it then became) or the BBC Review Show as it now is? For me it was the regular guest called Ekow Eshun. He used to spout such unutterable drivel with such fluent and uninterruptable conviction that it made me think: "I never want to read a book or see a film, play or art show ever again just in case I coincidentally end up developing an opinion as fatuous as Ekow Eshun´s."[Snip] Things have changed. What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
