| President Barack Obama’s new license plates may read “District of Columbia” but his head, heart and body language shout “I’m not from around here.” Local leaders believed that Obama, the first African-American president and an avowed urbanist, would fulfill his promise to embrace a many-hued metropolis overshadowed by white marbled official Washington. A few even believed he would expend political capital, as Jimmy Carter did, to back voting rights or statehood on behalf of district residents. The city’s fraying, graying Georgetown townhouse aristocracy — the ones who had dismissed Bill Clinton as a hick two decades earlier —

Washington DC is not a state and does not have the constitutional authority for Senators, nor House members. The people living in that 10 square miles knew this before they moved there.

I assume if DC got statehood, they would also get two more liberal senators. If I´m not mistaken DC was set up as a neutral area to house government offices.
Ireally don´t get all these libals rags being down on Obama all of a sudden. Maybe it´s a collective to downplay expectations for Obama´s next for years. But to wallow in idiotic sentiments like a 2nd coming of camelot, shows these morons don´t really get the devastation going on across this country.
Maybe Obama/Lincoln thing isn´t sticking the way they hoped.Their biggest problem is convincing people failure means success only because Obama´s too brilliant to make a mistake.
the left wing central planners behind Obama have to realize he doesn´t have the time or money to finish the country off.

Maybe it´s just me but I think a photo of the poseur in our White House does not belong on this website. If there has to be one, maybe the face can be airbrushed or pixelated so we do not have to see that "Joker"like grin. Never. For me it ruins my day and makes me want to vomit.

This baloney about him always having dinner with Michelle and the girls...
Considering his background, I´d call it Camel-lot.

People voted for him on the promise they would be elevated and stuff would be taken away from other people and given to them. Plain and simple.

I agree with #4, but I would classify his look as arrogant. It really spoils my breakfast to have to see him early in the morning. Or afternoon. Or evening. In don´t ever remember seeing George Bush´s picture confronting me every day. Although he never had that smug/arrogant look on his face that Obummer has all the time.

The very purpose of setting up DC was to house the Federal Government on territory that was "neutral" between all States. Otherwise New York City would have been fine the way London or Paris were for the UK and France. As the poster above said everyone should know this. But then Chuck Shumer should also know that writing a budget means doing so without raising further taxes.

~~He waited until after his reelection to put the “Taxation without Representation” tags on his limo, in part, because embracing the ethics-challenged D.C. political elite means hugging somebody on Monday who might be slapped in cuffs on Friday, according to Democrats in his circle.~~
Great city, D.C., isn´t it?

Obama is like shiny oak veneer, with rotten plywood underneath. The lofo´s still see the shiny veneer, conservatives see the rotten plywood, democrats and the old media see the rotten plywood...and don´t have a problem with it.

Men´s Wearhouse no longer likes the way George Zimmer looks. Zimmer, the founder, chairman and the public face of the discount apparel chain, has been terminated by the company, according to a brief statement from the company. Men´s Wearhouse gave no reason for Zimmer´s departure -- which surfaced on Wednesday, just hours before the company postponed its annual shareholders meeting. A company spokesman declined comment but said Zimmer´s departure would not affect operations.

Obama to Charlie Rose, yesterday: I’ve stood up a privacy and civil liberties oversight board made up of independent citizens, including some fierce civil libertarians. I’ll be meeting with them and what I want to do is to set up and structure a national conversation not only about these two programs but also about the general problem of these big data sets because this is not going to be restricted to government entities. The board Obama is referring to was created in 2004. Nominations and confirmation delays prevented the board from being particularly effective,

Obama never fails to enlist children in his secularist crusades, whether at home or abroad. Last week he trotted out two nine-year-old girls to introduce him at a White House event celebrating “LGBT Pride Month.” “We could not be prouder of Zea and Luna for the introduction,” he said. “Zea and Luna are here with their moms, and also I think with Grandma and Grandpa — correct? And so feel free to congratulate them afterwards for their outstanding introduction.” Zea and Luna proved useful to Obama not only as props for LGBT rights but also as mouthpieces for his gun-control agenda:

With dozens of Democratic lawmakers struggling to live on a food stamp budget to protest GOP cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, a Republican staffer says he is living on a SNAP budget without problems. Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman’s communications director and agriculture policy advisor, Donny Ferguson, says he has been able to eat well on $27.58 for a week, less than the $31.50 House Democrats have limited themselves to for their “SNAP Challenge.” “I wanted to personally experience the effects of the proposed cuts to food stamps. I didn’t plan ahead or buy strategically,

The ongoing saga of Edward Snowden has at least been moving in the right direction for President Obama. Snowden may once have tried to position himself as a whistleblower, but he has since devolved into ingratiating himself with authoritarian regimes by plying them with American national security secrets. While Pete is correct that the NSA story seems to be hurting voters’ opinion of Obama’s trustworthiness, Americans are by now realizing that they would be foolish to go the other extreme and place that trust in Snowden. It is also (understandably) distracting the public’s attention from the scandals that preceded it,

In two contexts the Obama administration has revealed its complete confusion about high-stakes negotiations and the interrelation of soft and hard power. In Syria, after dragging his feet for two years, trying to fudge over his own “red line” and coming up with a half-hearted move to give small arms to the rebels, President Obama discovers that he can’t budge Russia, which has backed Bashar al-Assad to the hilt. The Post reports that at the Group of 8 summit: Obama has demanded that Assad relinquish power as part of any negotiated peace settlement, a condition Putin rejects.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
