| Algiers, Algeria - The Algerian government says 32 militants and 23 captives were killed during the three-day military operation to end the hostage crisis at a natural gas plant in the Sahara. The provisional death toll was issued by the Interior Ministry on Saturday after the special forces operation crushed the last holdout of the militants at the gas refinery, resulting in 11 extremists killed along with seven hostages. A total of 685 Algerian and 107 foreigner workers were freed over the course of the standoff, which began on Wednesday, the statement added. The military also confiscated machine guns,

Updated story from AP. The maggots mined the complex, meaning to blow the whole thing up. These maggots were trained with big money - I bet from Iran - and planned for this for a long time. Algeria is right to never negotiate with terrorists, they obviously have lots of experience with these maggots - but they could use more training maybe. Still, a gas plant hostage-taking incident is all but impossible to end well. I don´t know any that have.
Why does AP keep calling them extremists and militants? They are terrorists.

The Hildebeast called them terrorists yesterday. Maybe AP didn´t get the memo.
That said, the Algerians had to move - or lose the whole NG plant along with the hostages in one huge blast. On the other hand, the Algerians may have tried to contact the White House and the call went to voicemail, again.

AP calls Islamic terrorists "militants" in keeping with Obama´s style book for reporters. Style book permits "terrorist" to be applied to Tea Party supporters, NRA members and Heritage Foundation donors. Islamic terrorists, whether using IEDs, AK-47s or suicide vests, will be described as militants, armed resistance and/or anti-government forces.

I doubt that there is a refinery or nuclear power plant in this world that is currently protected usfficiently to prevent a well trained platoon of terrorists from taking over the complex. With the porous borders of the U.S., how difficult would it be to insert a platoon of terrorists in the States?

The Algerians seemed to be more concerned with killing the terrorists than they were with saving the hostages. I think they made the right decision, the terrorists probably won´t be back any time soon.

CARACAS, Venezuela Venezuela´s biggest food company on Monday hit back at President Nicolas Maduro´s claims that it´s to blame for the country´s persistent food shortages. The chief executive of Empresas Polar, Lorenzo Mendoza, rejected accusations by the president that the company has reduced production and is hoarding products to create scarcity. "The accusations that we are producing less than last year are false," Mendoza told reporters. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.
