| Subway have finally responded to international criticism that their footlong sandwiches only appear to be 11 inches long. But their reply won´t win them any new fans, as they claimed that the word footlong is a ´registered trademark as a descriptive name for the sub´ and ´not intended to be a measurement of length.´ A man in Australia started uproar on Tuesday when he posted a photo on the company´s Facebook page of one of its footlong subs next to a tape measure showing the sandwich as just 11 inches. That looks like it may have been scrunched a bit in the wrapping. He should have measured it before it was wrapped.

Do they have "2x4s" in Australia? Ever measured one? Not even close to being 2" x 4". Do they have baloney sandwiches at Subway?

Politicians and companies seem to be in the same boat, instead of simply responding truthfully and vowing to correct the situation, and in this case they could have even profited from it by having a special promotion ( say 25% off our 11 inch foot-long sub), they beat around the bush and obfuscate. They had a great opportunity to capitalize on the matter. Its so easy to make thing right when you tell the truth you can never understand why they don´t do it. The temp in Sydney, Autralia is now well over 100 degrees and that it itself will shrink the foot to a shorter length. Anyways, who cares. I have 4 of their promotional coupons on hand right now and the discount is excellent, whether or not the subs are 12 or 11 inches long.

The foot could be the length of Hillary cloven hoof rather than the English unit of measurement. If you measure food before eating it you have too much time on your hands. Did point to a cafeteria worker once that the sign says "pork chops" which implies two or more and she only gave me one. Lucky to still be alive.

Their theory probably is if you shave an inch off the roll X´s millions of rolls, you save a lot of dough(no pun intended).
I remember sometime when I was a kid they sold solid gumballs until some genius figured out if you make the center hollow, your profits will go through the roof.
I´ve seen other food shrink over the years, not by much but it does add to the margin.
To be outraged over an inch of roll is crazy. When I buy a sub at the sub shop, sometimes they´re real long or short just by the miscalculation of the person cutting the roll.

That would make the 6 inch only 5.5 inches. Hummmmmm maybe they should just Trademark ´half a foot long" too.
Who cares and whether it´s 11 inches or 12 inches?
But if you´re going to put out a stupid response then be prepared for some backlash.

I think it´s probably Obama inflation to blame. The subs were probably a footlong at one point, but then lost an inch, just as cans of food in the stores went from 16 oz to 15 oz, packets of cheese contained 12 pieces instead of 14, boxes of juice contained 23 ounces instead of 24 for the same price - this is hidden inflation all over and going on all the time. Newspapers are shrinking in size as well, and there are lots of other little corner cuttings business is doing in response to Obama´s government-spending and money printing spree, the root sources of inflation.
Get used to it, it´s going to keep coming in the Obama era.

When the lawyers among us buy a 6" Subway for lunch, I suppose they´ll their rulers in tow from now on. Let´s see. Manti T´eo. Lance Armstrong. The Kardashians. Honey Booboo. And now Subway. With the Second Coming taking place at noon on Monday, I suspect there´s really not much left to occupy journalist-Americans.

For all of you that don´t bake I will reveal the secret. Bread does not get measured by length. Any company measures the bread by the materials in it and then tries to shape it. The particular baker in Australia just didn´t shape it at twelve inches long. He/she should have made it a bit thinner or a bit narrower: then it would have been twelve inches long.

No different than our government claiming to be of the people. They fall short, too, but by a whale of a lot more than one inch.
Poster noting the 2 x 4 also has excellent point. How about a pound of bacon while we´re at it. 13 oz. Same for a can of coffee. How about all the other "new and improved" items hitting the store shelves every week, always the same size but with less inside than the week before.
Sonic sells a footlong hotdog, too. Bet they´re sweating tonight.
Have you ever measured a 42 inch TV?
Did you ever get the hundred dollars promised in your last raise or open a gallon of paint and measure what you got?
Yeah, it stinks... but caveat emptor.

The 2X4 WAS 2X4 when it was rough cut.
After drying and plaining to it´s finished dimensions it is smaller.
If you specify "Rough Cut" you can still get full size.

The first lady paid a visit to the youngsters, brightening their day with some silly dance moves performed in unison and imparting an important message about hard work and perseverance.Awww. According to the Huffington Post, Obama encouraged the kiddos to "try new things and not be afraid to fail, because we have all failed," and referenced Kerry Washington (also in the audience),

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will appeal a federal judge´s ruling that his agency systematically singled out Latinos in its trademark immigration patrols, marking the first finding by a court that the agency racially profiles people. Tim Casey, the lead attorney representing America´s self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in the case, said an appeal of the finding that the agency racially profiles people was planned in the next 30 days. The decision by U.S. District Judge Murray Snow in Phoenix backs up years of allegations from Arpaio´s critics who say his officers violate the constitutional rights of Latinos

The FBI warrant that sought Rosen’s private e-mails as part of a leak investigation and called him a possible “co-conspirator” in a crime was authorized “at the highest levels of the department, including discussions with the Attorney General,” according to the Justice Department. “The Department takes seriously the First Amendment right to freedom of the press,” the agency said in the statement, saying it took “great care” in deciding to

But despite calling for a more targeted and not "boundless" theater of global operations, Obama left the specifics and timelines for action, by which his success or failure can be measured, out of his big speech. Here are some critical questions Obama did not raise or answer in the address at the National Defense University. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”
