A New Anti-Terror Front?
Yes, the Government Thinks
It’s ‘Right-Wing Extremists’

The world is beset by terrorists — witness the American hostages taken in Algeria this week — but portions of our federal government continue to obsess about alleged home-grown threats from the “far right.” The Combating Terrorism Center, which is based at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, has issued a new report on its website entitled “Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right.” Normally, the center’s activities are focused on al-Qaeda and other violent Islamic groups seeking to topple governments around the world. But

This was just the product of 1 Israeli born ´expert´ on staff at the think tank. But, releasing the paper opens the entire operation up to ridicule.

Is there anything about the federal government that is not despicable?

What I want to know is what instances of violence are they talking about. I haven´t heard of any violent incidents committed by right wing militants.

So we are supposed to pay no attention at all to the fact that the political affiliations for the mass shooters has been of the wacko left variety or atheist?

Liberals (aka Marxists, socialists, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc.) are mentally ill, most terminally, and should be excluded from the political process.

Deport them all to Cuba, where they want to be anyway, to get the treatment they deserve.

Leftards are terrified about cutting spending and reducing the size of the federal government, so it does seem they could believe any normal person could be a terrorist...

Most amusing! Reading up on the ´attributes´ of the ´report´ - they´re pretty much describing the Obama-Approved ´Occupy´ movement.

Pretty much without fail - the crap emanates from the left - including the *dangerous* crap.

A few years ago DHS I&A released a similar report and they were almost shut down and they are still running scared. Some General at West Point has some testifying to do. Speaker Boehner and Head of the Armed Services committee in the house where are you.

Obama, the MSM and the rest of the Democrats are far more interested in trying to score political points than in actually protecting Americans.

#13 Agreed. It has been the leftists like Bill Ayers and the black panthers that have done the killing and caused all the mahem over the years.I can´t recall any right wingers causing that kind of trouble.

We might not be able to sue a gov´t agency but we can darn sure sue the companies & individuals that prepared the research to substantiate these claims.

Time for some aggressive class action lawsuit on behalf of conservatives & Tea Partiers. Returning military from combat assignments should join too, as Big Sis is trying to get them classified as mentally damaged... and not fit for a gun license.

Poster #15... Major Hasan has been scrubbed from all terrorist records. He was on Obama´s 2008 transition team. He said after the shooting that he acted because Obama was taking too long. He also stated he was never supposed to be assigned to an arab nation where a conflict was being fought.

It´s also why he was allowed to spew Islamist hatred wherever he was assigned, without ever getting written up. Comrads in high places.

The Conservative Treehouse has a piece on this today with links to information on Arie Perliger, the West Point instructor who is the Daddy of this report.

Here is the detailed deconstruction of Arie Perliger and his report, originally posted last September:

From the second source in #19, a sample of Perliger´s commission´s report in which militias and the patriot movement are relabeled the "Anti-Federalist Movement".

The important point is that Perliger has managed, by describing these "violent right-wing extremists" as "anti-federalist", to expand, elide and conflate these perceived enemies and, I´m sure, to present to the cadets at West Point the specter of "constitutionalist terrorists."

A Fifth of Obama

You can always rely on the administration of Barack Obama, a former constitutional-law lecturer (or as his résumé-inflating fans put it, “professor”), to do the sleazy thing when it comes to the Constitution the president is sworn to defend. Thus, the performance on Wednesday of Lois Lerner, chief of the Obama IRS’s Conservative Harassment Division, before the House oversight committee. There’s an old scam criminal defendants occasionally pull. They give a bit of exculpatory direct testimony – just enough to gaze plaintively at the jurors and swear, cross-their-hearts, that they are pure as the driven snow. Then

The woman at the center of the IRS scandal refused to testify to Congress on Wednesday, but House Republicans said Lois Lerner botched her attempt to invoke her right against self-incrimination and said they likely will force her to come back and explain why the agency targeted conservative political groups. Ms. Lerner’s refusal to testify shifted attention to her onetime boss, former Commissioner Douglas H. Shulman, who apologized to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee but refused to take responsibility, leaving furious lawmakers warning that the Internal Revenue Service could end up facing a special prosecutor.

Early in an opinion issued recently by a unanimous three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Judge A. Raymond Randolphsaid: “Although the parties have not raised it, one issue needs to be resolved before we turn to the merits of the case.” The issue he raised but could not resolve — that is up to the Supreme Court — illuminates the Obama administration’s George Wallace-like lawlessness. It also demonstrates the judiciary’s duty to restrain presidents who forget the oath they swear to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.” The appeals court was deciding

Revelations about the Internal Revenue Service targeting conservative groups have raised important questions about the Obama administration’s commitment to the First Amendment. Yet there is ample evidence to suggest that the culture of intimidation in which these tactics were allowed to flourish goes well beyond one agency or a few rogue employees. For years, administration officials have used the power of the federal government to isolate their opponents. Meanwhile, the unionized employees who populate the IRS and other agencies across the country routinely take their cues from union bosses, whose political donations and speeches show their support

As soon as White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler heard about an upcoming inspector general’s report on the Internal Revenue Service, she knew she had a problem. The notice Ruemmler saw on April 24 gave her a thumbnail sketch of a disturbing finding: that the IRS had improperly targeted tea party and other conservative groups. She shared the news with White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough and other senior White House aides, who all recognized the danger of the findings. But they agreed that it would be best not to share it with President Obama until

CHICAGO — Religiously devout business owners are waging a broad rebellion against providing their employees with contraceptive coverage, bringing dozens of lawsuits that seem certain to land the issue before the Supreme Court. The company owners say their religious beliefs take precedence over a new federal requirement, contained in President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, that they give employees insurance that covers contraceptives. The legal battle took an important step forward Wednesday when an appeals court here heard arguments in two cases brought by business owners who are Catholic. Another challenge is scheduled to be heard Thursday by an appeals court

A Chechen man linked to one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects was fatally shot early Wednesday in an unusual encounter with the FBI and other law enforcement officers in his apartment in Orlando. According to federal law enforcement officials, the man was being interviewed about whether he and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the bombing suspects, were connected to a two-year-old triple slaying when he attacked an FBI agent. There were conflicting accounts of what happened in the moments before the man was shot. One federal law enforcement official said the man, a professional martial-arts fighter, was shot

Former Rep. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.
