| Algeria´s military intervention against kidnappers at a Saharan gas plant apparently came as a surprise to those foreign governments whose citizens were being held hostage. Japan called for an end to the raid, summoning the Algerian ambassador to express concern for the lives of the captives and to plead for up-to-date information. British Prime Minister David Cameron said he was "disappointed" not to have been told about the raid in advance. But while many details of how events at the In Amenas plant have unfolded remain unclear, Algeria´s decision to deal with the kidnappers forcefully and unilaterally fits

Long piece but well worth reading...You´re one of the worlds top producers of liquified natural gas with long-term supply contracts next door to Europe and spot market prices for LNG going thru the roof in the midst of a freezing cold spell in the UK/Europe and huge demand from China and India, and you gonna allow some extremists to shut a facility, threaten to shut down more, and insult your manhood/military-ego by making demands??? As the Algerians govt stated...anyone who thinks they will negotiate with terrorists is delusional...

i must agree with the Algerians. There is no guarantee the hostages will not be killed by the terrorists. If some collateral damage, so be it. Once the terrorists perceive there is not advantage and will die, they will desist in these type of actions.

Maybe instead of whining some of the Western leaders should learn a thing or two from the Algerians. This is the only approach you can have to be successful.

The House voted to repeal ObamaCare on Thursday for the third time since Republicans took over the chamber in 2011. The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.
