| The Hudson County town of West New York is considering a widespread sign regulation that could include banning American flags from being flown. The Board of Commissioners have a draft ordinance for "General Sign Regulations". Among the prohibited signs under the proposal would be "Flags, banners and pennants." This has opponents upset. "What if I want to hang the American Flag? I can´t," Frank Ferriero told politickerNJ. "Man, that´s un-American." The proposed ordinance was first read at a meeting on Wednesday.

A ban on flags, banners, and pendants? This is the pressing issue in West New York? What in the heck business is it of theirs if I want to hang a dead squirrel in my window? The Board of Commissioners should be run out of town on a rail.

This has nothing to do with signage. What are the names of the traitors who proposed this?

This has opponents upset?? That´s an understatement. I don´t even believe what I am reading anymore. Alarm bells and red flags are waving (no pun intended) and no one but the few of us here seem to be concerned. I never thought I would live to see the day that this would even be considered in this country.

Article provides no details on why this ordinance is being considered or who is promoting it. If imposed, such an ordinance would be enforced by local police who would presumably issue a summons to a homeowner or business for displaying the American flag on July 4th or for flying the flag at half staff on a national day of mourning. If homeowner refuses to remove offending flag, do they face a ride in a patrol car, fingerprinting and mug shots in a police station that is displaying the national and state flags? And then a court appearance where the same flags are shown?
Also note that proposed ordinance stipulates size of flag decal permitted (15% of area) on shop door and/or window. Are police to measure square inches/feet and if 16% or more, arrest offender?
Only certain thing is that there will surely be an exemption for the New Black Panther Party flag, ACORN banners and Obama logos decals, banners and flags.

Are these people that ignorant of the 1st Amendment? Are they that obtuse to think that such a regulation could be lawful? Is there no one in that town to oppose this and call the Board of Commissioners stupid. To slap them across the face?

God allowed the North to win the war because of the "western movement" & manifest destiny. States rights not slavery was the real issue. We seem to be beginning another "war between the states" which is the same issue - FREEDOM! We may not have enough "Americans" left to survive. It seems odd to have to call someone a "good American" or "patriot" - that used to be understood in our Republic.

#15 I suppose you are right, if a state´s right was to have an economy that competed on the basis of "free" slave labor. No, the issue at heart was slavery and a state´s right to impose it on anyone. The deep underlying issue today is abortion. Again we find ourselves allowing some citizens to be killed and their lives devalued for the economic benefit of those who wish to kill them. Our nation will be mired as we are until we decide that all human life is valueable and should be equally respected before the law. That was the problem in the 1800s, and it is the problem now.

I disagree with #16. Thats the story we all got in school, but it ignores the larger issue. The question was, do states have the right to decide issues for themselves, or does federal authority trump state authority. Prior to the War of Northern Aggression There was more of a balance of power between the states and the feds. The unfortuante loss by the south threw all the power to the feds. The states are little more than counties now. They mean nothing. Slavery was an abomination, but it was only the trigger issue that got people emotionally invested.

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

Women will have the chance to join the Navy SEALS, Army Rangers and other specialized combat outfits beginning in 2016 under plans approved Tuesday by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. Female candidates will also be able to join front-line Army and Marine Corps infantry units as part of the department’s decision. “The days of the ‘Rambo’ are over,” Maj. Gen. Bennet Sacolick, head of force development for Special Operations Command, said Tuesday during a briefing announcing the changes. Tuesday’s announcement builds on former Pentagon chief Leon Panetta’s decision in January to end the military’s long-standing ban

Michael Hastings, a contributor to Rolling Stone and BuzzFeed, died on Tuesday morning in a car crash in Los Angeles at the unforgivably young age of 33.He is best known, rightly, for his 2010 Rolling Stone profile of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who as commander of the U.S.-led force in Afghanistan was the face of the war that Hastings saw as misguided and poorly managed. His profile, “The Runaway General,” portrayed McChrystal as a loose cannon so sure of himself and his strategy for the war that he and his staff openly derided their civilian overseers,

Senators on Tuesday rejected building the 700 miles of double-tier border fencing Congress authorized just seven years ago, with a majority of the Senate saying they didn’t want to delay granting illegal immigrants legal status while the fence was being built. The 54-39 vote to reject the fence shows the core of the immigration deal is holding. The vote broke mostly along party lines, though five Republicans, including Sen. Marco Rubio and the rest of the bill’s authors, voted against the fence, and two Democrats voted for it. Republicans had offered the fence as a way to

[Video] Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory (R-Opelousas) explains why he recently switched from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party. He discusses the history of the Republican Party, founded as an Abolitionist Movement in 1854. Guillory talks about how the welfare state is only a mechanism for politicians to control the black community. Hello, my name is Elbert Lee Guillory, and I’m the senator for the twenty-fourth district right here in beautiful Louisiana. Recently I made what many are referring to as a ‘bold decision’ to switch my party affiliation to the Republican Party.

Tough global rules to stop mega-rich firms and individuals from dodging tax were unveiled at the G8 summit today. David Cameron demanded the world’s most powerful countries act to stop countries shifting profits to low-cost tax havens instead of paying they dues where there are earned. The Lough Erne Declaration - signed by the UK, US, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Japan and Russia - vows to ´fight the scourge of tax evasion´ by ensuring automatic exchange of tax information and changing the rules to stop multinational companies shifting profits across borders to avoid paying their fair share.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.

It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.
