With Te´o Silent, Questions
About Hoax Mount

Associated Press, by Tom Coyne

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 1/18/2013 8:58:46 AM

Manti Te´o has already tried to explain how his heartwarming story of playing through adversity was a lie he wasn´t responsible for, how he was the victim of a cruel hoax about a dead girlfriend who never existed. (Snip) An Associated Press review of news coverage found that Te´o talked about his doomed love in a Web interview on Dec. 8 and again in a newspaper interview published Dec. 10. He and the university said he learned on Dec. 6 that it was all a hoax — not only was she not dead, she wasn´t real.

Comments:
Article goes on to say that in a one-on-one interview with Sports Illustrated in September, Te´o went into great detail about his relationship with this girl, her illness, etc.

I believe he was in on this from the start.

And there was an October interview with his parents, in which his father talked about the relationship, and how they expected that this girl would end up being their daughter-in-law. It has been republished in the South Bend Tribune here:

What about Benghazi? What about infringement on the Constitution?

A good story and an important read. You wonder why he lied and the only conclusion is it helped advance his narrative.

Must be a j-school major...

Why doesn´t he just state that she was a "composite girlfriend", like Obama had?

The media just has no interest in pursuing stories about "composite girlfriends".

I admit that I haven´t been following this but I do have a question. How does one just ´find out´ that one´s girlfriend never existed? Sounds like something 0bama would try to pull.

A search for main posts on pithy subjects by the complainers on this thread will come up empty.

How easy it is to throw spitwads, yet contribute nothing of value to the site.

As for news, we can think about more than one thing at a time. Walk and chew gum. Nothing to it.

This is an interesting story. Why would someone who seems to have everything going for him pull a stunt like this and perpetuate it?

As for those who come onto these threads for the sole purpose of complaining, what is that all about? Slow day at your house? Nothing else to do?

He´s either a "dumb jock" or very smart. He has been playing the Press like a fiddle. They love sob stories and really go after them unless of course, they are about Conservatives. Get over it.

For those of you that are chastizing us that have chastized this story, your missing the point.

I´m not complaining about the story being posted here, I am complaining about the MSM going crazy with this story. If this was on ESPN or Yahoo sports, no problem. But when the MSM leads with this instead of (a dozen) other real stories, it raises my ire.

Obama told more massive destructive lies in 2008 and 2012 than Te´o ever dreamed of, but the media was not the least interested. Why?

Reply 17 - Posted by: Safari Man, 1/18/2013 11:01:48 AM     (No. 9124239)

I look at this story as very important in that is demonstrates how lazy and easily duped are the MSM. It also presents a huge opportunity for the conservative media to bring up the special handling that Obama got when he did the same thing, except even more egregious than this since it was in authored material.

Talk about Karma.

He and his family thought this would be a great enhancement of his chances to win the Heisman Trophy.

Didn´t win the trophy and played horribly in the Notre Dame bowl game too.

No trophy and no high draft pick either, IMHO.

This story is BIG news. It demonstrates perfectly what is wrong with America´s news media. Whether it be politics, economic, religion, health care, or sports reporters today DO NOT investigate they simply parrot back what they are told and report what feels good. The failure of reporters to report is a major reason why our country is currently so messed up.

Bloggers are doing better reporting than the New York Times, CBS, Sports Illustrated and ESPN. That is BIG news.

Why Did Lois Lerner
Take the Fifth?

Among the criteria by which the Internal Revenue Service selected groups in for its political targeting program in 2012 was "educating on the constitution and bill of rights" (lowercase in original), according to the Inspector General´s Report. Lois Lerner, who directs the office at the center of that effort, has received her own education in the Constitution.(Snip)Josh Marshall, proprietor of TalkingPointsMemo.com, concedes that Lerner "has every right" to invoke the Fifth Amendment "and may be wise to do so. But that´s a decision that simply is not consistent with her remaining in her job.

CINCINNATI, OH - The claim that the ongoing IRS scandal is limited to low level employees is falling apart. The six Cincinnati workers we have identified, who sent scrutinizing letters to conservative groups with words including "patriot, liberty, tea party or 9-12" in their names are Mitchel Steele, Carly Young, Joseph Herr, Stephen Seok, Liz Hofacre and a woman identified only as Ms. Richards. (Snip) Because all six of our IRS workers have different individual and territory managers, Cindy Thomas is one manager they all have common.

We can now officially call the Obama administration besieged. One of President Obama´s underlings is set to plead her Fifth Amendment Right against self-incrimination in the burgeoning IRS scandal. The Los Angeles Times broke the story: Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won´t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening - or why she didn´t disclose it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

How Apple scores
its lower tax bill
CNN Money, by Jeanne Sahadi    Original Article

Apple is one of America´s most profitable companies. And it pays a substantial income tax bill to the U.S. government -- by its own account, $6 billion in 2012 and an estimated $7 billion this year. But many tax experts and lawmakers say Apple´s tax bill should be bigger. A lot bigger. The concern is that Apple (Snip), while complying with U.S. laws, is nevertheless taking advantage of loopholes in the tax code to shift a substantial amount of income to offshore subsidiaries in low-tax countries. The result is billions of dollars in profits every year that go untaxed.

You almost have to admire Carl Levin´s timing. Amid a furor over politicized IRS tax enforcement, the Michigan Democrat on Tuesday tried to change the subject to a hardy Washington perennial—corporate tax loopholes. Too bad his designated business pinata, Apple, AAPL -0.74% demonstrates instead the insanity of the tax code that Mr. Levin has done so much to write. Mr. Levin unveiled the results of his months-long investigation into Apple´s corporate taxes (Snip)What Mr. Levin did not do was present any evidence of anything illegal or even inappropriate. He did prove that Apple has smart accountants and tax lawyers.

WASHINGTON — As the Internal Revenue Service´s last two directors struggled to provide answers Tuesday about the agency´s improper scrutiny of conservative groups, a lawyer for another key IRS official said she would invoke the 5th Amendment rather than answer questions about the screening and why she didn´t tell Congress about it. Lois Lerner, director of exempt organizations for the IRS, will assert her right against self-incrimination during her scheduled appearance Wednesday before the House oversight panel.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
