An American and up to thirty Britons who were being held by Islamist militants in Algeria have been killed in a botched air raid by Algerian forces. The raid, which was carried out in Algerian helicopters and special forces, was meant to wipe out the al-Qaeda-linked militants and free the 41 hostages from at least 10 countries, but instead left scores of people dead and injured. Two Americans escaped unharmed yesterday from the hostage standoff, a senior U.S. defense officials told Fox News. Militants said that seven Americans had been taken hostage and five other Americans who had been

Of course Obama didn´t know about it beforehand. Either he is considered so impotent as to be useless in such situations, or he´s covering for the botched rescue.

Either way...

Belmokhtar ´offers hostage swap´

Ihab Mohamed writes: According to Mauratania´s ANI news agency, which seems to be in contact with the Battalion of Blood, the terrorist group behind the hostage crisis, Mokhtar Belmokhtar, the group´s leader, is offering to release the American hostages in exchange for the release of Egyptian Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman and Pakistani Aafia Siddiqui, who are in jail in America on terrorism charges.

Belmokhtar has recorded a video message, which he is going to send to the mass media, in which he offers the same swap and calls on the French and Algerians to negotiate an end to the war in northern Mali..."

It would seem that this statement would consolidate the entire Benghazi Affair with Algeria(?) and make answers about Benghazi much more relevant to what is now going on.

This administration is entirely ineffectual, incompetent and corrupt. None of this would be going on if Romney had been elected. If the election were held again Obama would lose big time.

#6...Algeria has just begun to start looking to the future after a decade of a bloody war, so their troops are battle hardened, and the govt doesn´t take the seizure of one of many natural gas facilities too kindly...they were the second largest LNG exporter before the internal conflict (mainly to France, Belgium, Spain, and Turkey)...

#12, Captured? The reports I´ve seen are that these Islamists thugs are DEAD, so no interrogations. ll were found Thursday-- three Egyptians, two Tunisians, two Libyans, a Malian, a Frenchman and only 2 Algerians...the terrorist body count is now up to 18...

It is a pity innocent people died, but just under 600 were rescued so I don´t know why the British press continues to call this a botched raid...

Choc horror: It might be Easter but the

bean production and forcing prices up
Daily Mail [UK], by Emma Glanfield    Original Article

The price of chocolate could soar over the next few years as surging demand puts further pressure on the global cocoa crisis--and experts predict the demand could become unsustainable by 2020. Experts are warning that a growing taste for chocolate in Asia--particularly in China--means cocoa farmers will need more help to provide a greater amount to export or manufacturers will be forced to use less cocoa in their products. It is predicted chocolate prices will soar to keep up with the rising demand--otherwise consumers will increasingly be offered products filled with substitutes, such as nuts and fruits, to ‘pack out’ chocolate bars.

An investigation into Birmingham schools at the centre of a plot to introduce hardline Islamist teaching has found pupils were illegally segregated and non-Muslim students were discriminated against. [Snip] Department for Education inspectors were ordered into Park View School and its sister schools, Golden Hillock and Nansen, after a letter dubbed ´Trojan Horse´ was uncovered apparently outlining a plot by Muslim hardliners to drive moderate headteachers out of schools. The unsigned and undated letter claimed that a small but radical group of Muslims was pursuing its own agenda in the classrooms, with uncooperative headteachers and governors forced out.

In 1925, Rudyard Kipling wrote an uncharacteristically restrained and sombre short story called The Gardener. It tells of a woman’s search for her illegitimate son, who goes missing in action on the Western Front. After the Armistice, she learns that he has been killed, and is buried in a military cemetery. Arriving there, she finds a man planting flowers in the earth and asks him where she might find her “nephew”. The man looks at her “with infinite compassion,” and tells her “Come with me, and I will show you where your son lies”. As she leaves the graveyard, she

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

One of US president Barack Obama´s leading campaign strategists has been recruited by Labour to play a key role in Ed Miliband´s bid for Downing Street in next year´s general election. David Axelrod, who is credited with masterminding Mr Obama´s presidential victories in 2008 and 2012, will join Labour´s general election campaign team as a senior strategic adviser, the party announced. His appointment was been hailed by Labour as a major coup, and ´´seriously bad news for the Conservatives´´, at a time when Mr Miliband has been under fire from sections of his own party for his campaign tactics. I blogged yesterday about this "segregated" Muslim event organised by the Islamic Society of the University of East London, due to happen tonight at UEL´s main lecture theatre on its Docklands campus. Much to my surprise, UEL immediately banned it from their campus. [Snip] UEL should be congratulated over this. As I pointed out, it has an "equality and diversity" policy. It didn´t know that the dinner organised by the Islamic society--which was to include a speech by the controversial anti-gay preacher Murtaza Khan--was segregated by sex and was providing a platform for an extremist. The university´s decision to pull the

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too
