| An American and up to thirty Britons who were being held by Islamist militants in Algeria have been killed in a botched air raid by Algerian forces. The raid, which was carried out in Algerian helicopters and special forces, was meant to wipe out the al-Qaeda-linked militants and free the 41 hostages from at least 10 countries, but instead left scores of people dead and injured. #6...Algeria has just begun to start looking to the future after a decade of a bloody war, so their troops are battle hardened, and the govt doesn´t take the seizure of one of many natural gas facilities too kindly...they were the second largest LNG exporter before the internal conflict (mainly to France, Belgium, Spain, and Turkey)...

Pity innocent people died, but this is the way it has to be done. I haven´t heard if any of the terrorist captured have been interrogated yet. But once information is gotten they should be executed .

#12, Captured? The reports I´ve seen are that these Islamists thugs are DEAD, so no interrogations. ll were found Thursday-- three Egyptians, two Tunisians, two Libyans, a Malian, a Frenchman and only 2 Algerians...the terrorist body count is now up to 18...
It is a pity innocent people died, but just under 600 were rescued so I don´t know why the British press continues to call this a botched raid...

The Metropolitan Police has defended the way it responded to reports of the killing in Woolwich, south London, after questions were raised about how long it took officers to reach the scene. The force said police were there within nine minutes of the first emergency call and firearms officers were at the scene five minutes after that. Mayor Boris Johnson was heckled when he visited the area. HANAHAN--The U.S. Naval Brig is once again being mentioned as a leading alternative to put terror detainees on trial after President Barack Obama this week rekindled his push to shut down the terror-suspect holding site at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. “I once again call on Congress to lift the restrictions on detainee transfers from Gitmo,” he said. “I have asked the Department of Defense to designate a site in the United States where we can hold military commissions.” Speculation immediately re-focused on the brig at Charleston as a leading choice where some of the 166 detainees could go on trial.

They found a 10 percent extra risk linked to taking simvastatin--the most commonly prescribed anti-cholesterol drug--which rose to 22 percent for those taking atorvastatin. Previous research into a suspected link with statins found a 9 percent rise in the chance of patients developing diabetes, but the new study looked at specific brands of drug.
