An American and up to thirty Britons who were being held by Islamist militants in Algeria have been killed in a botched air raid by Algerian forces. The raid, which was carried out in Algerian helicopters and special forces, was meant to wipe out the al-Qaeda-linked militants and free the 41 hostages from at least 10 countries, but instead left scores of people dead and injured. Two Americans escaped unharmed yesterday from the hostage standoff, a senior U.S. defense officials told Fox News. Militants said that seven Americans had been taken hostage and five other Americans who had been

Of course Obama didn´t know about it beforehand. Either he is considered so impotent as to be useless in such situations, or he´s covering for the botched rescue.

Either way...

Belmokhtar ´offers hostage swap´

Ihab Mohamed writes: According to Mauratania´s ANI news agency, which seems to be in contact with the Battalion of Blood, the terrorist group behind the hostage crisis, Mokhtar Belmokhtar, the group´s leader, is offering to release the American hostages in exchange for the release of Egyptian Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman and Pakistani Aafia Siddiqui, who are in jail in America on terrorism charges.

Belmokhtar has recorded a video message, which he is going to send to the mass media, in which he offers the same swap and calls on the French and Algerians to negotiate an end to the war in northern Mali..."

It would seem that this statement would consolidate the entire Benghazi Affair with Algeria(?) and make answers about Benghazi much more relevant to what is now going on.

This administration is entirely ineffectual, incompetent and corrupt. None of this would be going on if Romney had been elected. If the election were held again Obama would lose big time.

#6...Algeria has just begun to start looking to the future after a decade of a bloody war, so their troops are battle hardened, and the govt doesn´t take the seizure of one of many natural gas facilities too kindly...they were the second largest LNG exporter before the internal conflict (mainly to France, Belgium, Spain, and Turkey)...

#12, Captured? The reports I´ve seen are that these Islamists thugs are DEAD, so no interrogations. ll were found Thursday-- three Egyptians, two Tunisians, two Libyans, a Malian, a Frenchman and only 2 Algerians...the terrorist body count is now up to 18...

It is a pity innocent people died, but just under 600 were rescued so I don´t know why the British press continues to call this a botched raid...

The Metropolitan Police has defended the way it responded to reports of the killing in Woolwich, south London, after questions were raised about how long it took officers to reach the scene. The force said police were there within nine minutes of the first emergency call and firearms officers were at the scene five minutes after that. Mayor Boris Johnson was heckled when he visited the area. BBC London´s Home Affairs Correspondent Guy Smith spoke with Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, former Metropolitan Police Commander John O´Connor and Roger Gray, a former firearms officer.

HANAHAN--The U.S. Naval Brig is once again being mentioned as a leading alternative to put terror detainees on trial after President Barack Obama this week rekindled his push to shut down the terror-suspect holding site at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. “I once again call on Congress to lift the restrictions on detainee transfers from Gitmo,” he said. “I have asked the Department of Defense to designate a site in the United States where we can hold military commissions.” Speculation immediately re-focused on the brig at Charleston as a leading choice where some of the 166 detainees could go on trial.

Proudly marching through the streets of York with cheers ringing in their ears, the men and women of 2nd Signal Regiment--recently returned from Afghanistan--were greeted by thousands of people lining the streets to welcome them home. In the hours after the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby by alleged Islamist terrorists in Woolwich, south-east London, on Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence had advised servicemen and women not to go out in uniform--an order that was promptly ignored by soldiers who refused to be cowed and almost immediately rescinded. 300 members of the Armed Forces were cheered by well-wishers who waved

If an alleged Benghazi cover-up, the IRS tea-party scandal, and claims that his Justice Department is ignoring reporters´ First Amendment Rights weren´t already the stuff of headaches for President Barack Obama, now he´s facing a mini-scandal with the U.S. Marines. While boarding Marine One, the presidential helicopter, on Friday, Obama walked past a saluting Marine corporal and strode up the boarding stairs without returning the salute. The breach of military protocol--the president of the United States serves as the military commander-in-chief--did not go unnoticed by the press corps. People taking statins face an increased risk of developing diabetes, warn researchers. They found a 10 percent extra risk linked to taking simvastatin--the most commonly prescribed anti-cholesterol drug--which rose to 22 percent for those taking atorvastatin. Previous research into a suspected link with statins found a 9 percent rise in the chance of patients developing diabetes, but the new study looked at specific brands of drug. The September 11 attacks on America was by no means the first act of terrorism carried out in the name of Islam. The 1993 World Trade Center bombings killed six, while the 1998 US embassy bombings of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya, left 223 people dead. However, the scale, horror and repercussions of 9/11--2,996 people dead, the World Trade Center destroyed and the Pentagon attacked--set it apart as a seminal moment that changed the course of history. At one bar, a mixture that included rubbing alcohol and caramel coloring was sold as scotch. In another, premium liquor bottles were refilled with water--and apparently not even clean water at that. State officials provided those new details Thursday on raids they conducted a day earlier as part of a yearlong investigation dubbed Operation Swill. Twenty-nine New Jersey bars and restaurants, including 13 TGI Fridays, were accused of substituting cheap booze - or worse--for top-shelf brands while charging premium prices. State officials would not say what establishment used the rubbing alcohol or which one used dirty water, or

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them.
