| In the last 24 hours, the media have scrutinized Notre Dame All-American linebacker Manti Te´o´s life more completely than they did President Barack Obama´s in the last eight years. And that is shameful -- on both counts. The crux of the Te´o story, of course, is whether Te´o conspired to fabricate his seemingly tragic relationship with imaginary girlfriend Lennay Kekua or whether he is a victim of a cruel hoax. Much is at stake -- or so we are told. If Te´o proves to be a willing participant in a hoax, NFL scouts will question his character

I frankly don´t understand the hype behind this "scandal." And I love the concern about "NFL scouts will question his character." Since when has the NFL questioned a player´s character? Seems to me that Vick´s dog fighting prison term is much more significant and didn´t much impede his career.

They are just characters in the fictional story of his life . They add interest and an illusion of being straight and normal. They are like the bible he will use when he takes the oath of office. They were props, temporarily useful.

If the NFL has a problem with Manti´s character ... he does have a promising career ahead of him as a Dem politician.
Personally ... I think the media "scrutiny" is just a ruse to knock ND down a peg or two after a great season, and the fact that ND has joined the suit against the Obamacare HHS regulations.

But some sex is off limits, such as Frank Marshall Davis; the underwear stain in BHO Poem, Pop, in the Occidental literary mag; a mysterious trip to Pakistan in the early 1980´s; yes, those composite girlfriends from the pre-Michelle days; his "friend" Reggie Love´s leaving the White House, which was on HillBuzz´s "gay-dar".

Apparently the writers at American Thinker suffer the same type of rental issues as the commenters here who lash out at everyone else whenever one of their heroes is found out to be a slug. In other words, is news that hard to write, that you have to compare the Te´o story with Obama? Really? And how the press is wasting their time and making fools of us because they reported the Te´o story without also bringing obama up in the same story?

I was just listening to the guys on ESPN tearing into the Te´o story, professing disbelief such a lie could be allowed to exist for so long, and I could only think how in a world I am old enough to remember, this vetting would have been applied to a Presidential candidate in 2008.

Thank you #20 for enlightening #13. Jack Cashill is a methodical, accurate writer, and is known for his detail in whatever subject he is writing about.
His most recent book is Deconstructing Obama. Cashill made the connection, through, diligent examination, of the coincidences of syntax or patterns of expression between Dreams From My Father and Bill Ayers´ 2001 book, Fugitive Days for which Obama wrote a dust-jacket blurb. He doesn´t have to make up anything, because he knows how to "drill down" through stories to get to the truth.

It appears that a man with a made-up girlfriend has his NFL career possibly harmed, yet a man with a mostly made-up background can get elected President. What a country this has become. I don´t understand what the big deal about a made-up girlfriend is anyway. I had a (female) friend who was an English professor, and one of her students wrote an essay about his girlfriend who sounded too good to be true. She asked him about that and he was clearly embarrassed, but her response was, oh hell, Anthony, it´s better that way anyway.

So I was intrigued when I got an email this morning from Jeff Evanson, Tesla Motors’ Vice-President of investor relations. Evanson, a long-time Power Line reader, pointed out that the company raised over $1 billion last week, and will use a portion of those proceeds to pay off its loan with the Department of Energy ahead of schedule. Here is a woman we will need to learn much more about in the coming weeks. Sarah Hall Ingram is a highly valued employee at the IRS. In the last three years she has received $103,390 in bonuses for her excellent work. She was the Commissioner of the Tax-Exempt and Government Entitles Division. Under her leadership, groups that expressed a fear of large, out-of-control government were systematically crushed by her branch of our large, out-of-control government. They were specifically singled out for harassment for political reasons. Secret information about the conservative applicants was leaked to leftist

I was on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show last night, talking about the Benghazi talking point emails. Near the end of the segment, Hugh asked whether I thought the presidential election might have turned out differently if Obama and Clinton had not succeeded in covering up the truth about Benghazi. I was skeptical. The story of the election, I said, was the Obama campaign’s ability to turn out, once again, a large majority of the low-information voters who swept Obama into office in 2008. Few of those low-information voters, I said, would either have understood, or cared about, Benghazi

As tax collector for the nation’s second-largest state, I know it’s a necessary function — from the fire station to the space station, nothing government does is possible without taxes. But it’s sure no path to popularity. Tax collectors have had a rotten reputation since biblical times. For all the services and all the people that depend on it, our work has to be viewed as fair and even-handed. It’s a basic bond of trust, and once that trust is lost, it’s hard to get back. Our entire nation was born when the colonists decided Britain’s taxes were unfair

While many Democrats have joined Republicans in public shaming of the Internal Revenue Service for singling out conservative groups, others say the scandal is just a byproduct of muddied rules about nonprofits and political activity in the wake of the Citizens United ruling — and they’re hoping that they can steer the conversation from outrage over political targeting to fuel for campaign finance reform. But senior Dems may have much more than an opportunity to try to turn scandal to their advantage: they may have a degree of culpability as one especially vocal proponent

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part
