Priest’s sinful ‘drug sales’
New York Post, by Dan Mangan

Walter White has nothing on this man of God. A Connecticut priest — who once was a top aide to Edward Cardinal Egan — was busted for selling ultra-pure crystal meth shipped to him by California co-conspirators, law-enforcement officials said yesterday. Monsignor Kevin Wallin, 61, faces a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted of the drug conspiracy, which echoes the hit AMC show “Breaking Bad,” where mild-mannered science teacher White becomes a drug kingpin. Wallin was likely slinging meth to help fund his purchase of a shop selling drug paraphernalia, adult movies and toys, authorities said.

After what the Pope has been saying recently, it will be most interesting to read his reaction to this. Note to the Vatican, if this doesn´t convince you to clean house thoroughly, I guess nothing will.

A gay priest, financing his proclivities by selling meth, how shocking! The Church needs to root out this cancer.

Not that it matters to the seminar posters, but this guy was not a priest. But thanks for reading the headline anyway.

#5 Who´s a seminar poster? He was a gay, Catholic priest. FTA "Wallin for years was a prestigious priest in the Bridgeport Diocese, serving as personal secretary to Bishop Walter Curtis and his successor, Egan, before Egan became the boss of New York’s Archdiocese.
But last year, after resigning as pastor of the diocese’s cathedral, Wallin was stripped of his ability to act publicly as a priest."
As a Catholic, I am sick of the lavender mafia ruining the Church.

Um, I read the whole article which repeatedly refers to him as "priest" until he was stripped of that just last year. The Catholic church, and other denominations, are up to their ears in unsuitable priests/ministers. Maybe it´s what happens when the denomination gets too big. Does anybody else see a passing resemblance to Walter White, especially if he lost a little weight?

Because of the celibacy/chastity rule the Church unfortunately attracts a lot of young men to the priesthood who are sexually ambiguous. They then discover the ´Lavender Mafia´ as it´s called and are hooked into the gay priesthood.

Far be it from me, a non-Cathoilic to give His Holiness advice but I am afraid that this problem will continue as long RC priests are forbidden marriage.

Sorry, wasn´t clear. The "house" had already been cleaned of this messed up guy, so he wasn´t a priest when he was arrested. My point was that the media - and the chuzzling bashers - love to make it appear as if he were still a priest when this happened.

Not sure how removing celibacy as a tenet of priesthood would change a thing as this problem also infects non-Catholic preachers/ministers from denominations that allow their leaders to marry. But it´s still nice when non-Catholics offer advice to a Church that has lasted longer than any other.

What made Nevada rancher fight the feds?

Washington -- When the Bureau of Land Management retreated from a standoff with Cliven Bundy, a few hundred people traveled to his Nevada ranch to protest what they see as an overreach of the federal government. (Snip)Because of the cheap rent, some, including fellow cattlemen who don´t ranch on public lands, call public land ranchers "welfare ranchers" and have no sympathy for the Western lot. But Griggs said they don´t understand that ranching public land is "not a bargain." "On public lands, you might get kicked off at any moment for a turtle. That´s kind of the deal," he said.

The year that we were married, my husband and I were given a truly wonderful gift: a honeymoon safari to southern Africa. It was an amazing experience. We now have all the magical memories that one would hope to bring home from a safari: the fresh lion kill, the mother elephant tenderly caressing her baby, the warthog crashing through the undergrowth with a leopard in hot pursuit. I could go on (and on and on), but nothing’s more pretentious than regaling people with tales of your honeymoon safari, so I’ll just reiterate once more: completely fabulous. A thief was forced to stop the car he had stolen minutes before and release the children in the back seat after the a pair of 7-year-old twins attacked the driver with a toy snake. The car was taken from the home of Lucia Lozada in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday as the mother of the twin boys and a 1-year-old buckled in the back seat stood just a few feet from the vehicle. The family was preparing to go to church and the children´s father had just run back inside the house to get a baby bottle when a man hopped

President Obama is right. He told Major Garrett of CBS this week that “Mr. Putin’s decisions aren’t just bad for Ukraine. Over the long term, they’re going to be bad for Russia.” I believe that Putin’s adventures in Russia’s “near abroad” are a mistake. Indeed, they are part of a whole tapestry of wrongheadedness. It’s also bad for the Kremlin to crush dissent, censor the news, and hobble the economy by handing it over to oligarchs and a kleptocratic bureaucracy. Putin’s scapegoating and demonizing of gays isn’t only morally wrong, it’s not in Russia’s long-term interests either. That Putin prefers to

Matt Bevin, who is running against Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in the Kentucky GOP primary, has come out with a new ad defending his claimed affiliation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bevin tries to sidestep the MIT controversy in his latest ad by claiming that he never portrayed himself as a graduate of the prestigious school. “I’m a small-business owner, I’ve not had a resume in over 20 years. I’ve never claimed on a resume or to anyone ever that I’m a graduate of MIT. This is a lie made up by Mitch McConnell to distract you from

When Oprah Winfrey served on a Chicago jury in 2004, she couldn’t go to the bathroom attached to the jury room unless her fellow jurors sang to drown out the noise. One of the songs they sang was Kumbaya. When Alexis Sanchez used the bathroom in her college dorm, she brought her iPod with her. “I would blast it,” she says. “I would play ´D. A. N. C. President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.
