A troubling oversight has been found within New York State´s sweeping new gun laws. The ban on having high-capacity magazines, as it´s written, would also include law enforcement officers. Magazines with more than seven rounds will be illegal under the new law when that part takes effect in March. As the statute is currently written, it does not exempt law enforcement officers. Nearly every law enforcement agency in the state carries hand guns that have a 15 round capacity. A spokesman for the governor´s office called Eyewitness News to say, "We are still working out some details
Comments: Whoopsi! Legislate in haste - repent in liesure!
#1, your attitude is pretty poor. I know first hand that the police cannot respond to crimes as they are initiated in most cases. That doesn´t mean that it doesn´t happen and when it does they don´t hesitate to put their life in danger to protect the innocent victims. They are also a pretty easy target for whoever wishes to target them and it does happen, unfortunately, too often.
Since criminals and crazy people heading out on their own personal suicide mission don´t obey laws, all the liberal NY politicians have done is harass law abiding New Yorkers, and have created a black market for the classes of guns and magazines that they have banned.
New York gun owners can certainly show their disdain for what the politicians have done there by moving to other more gun owner friendly States, or if they don´t want to do that, vote the politicians out in the next election who supported that over reaching gun control law.
The Left "knows" that what they call high-capacity magazines and semi-auto weapons are the problem. If not, why would they want to deny them to every citizen? And if the danger comes from the hi-cap magazines and the semi-auto mechanisms [and is not a product of criminal choices and acts], then yes, even law officers, Secret Service, even members of the military will have to be limited to 7-round magazines and non-auto-loaders.
They have opened up any law enforcement officers to tremendous civil liability- the lawyers will have a field day, no matter whether the courts choose to enforce this law on a selective basis (also illegal as hell). Those oh so smart democrats have again proven to have attained escape velocity dumbass status.
Let´s see if I have this right. Cops have a need for "assault rifles with 30 round magazines to protect us and themselves from the "bad guys" but private law abiding citizens don´t need them for the same purposes? Only in New York is that kind of rationale even deemed sane.
Three puppies were rescued from the Muslim Brotherhood before they were used as "puppy bombs" at a protest in Tahrir Square two weeks ago. The group planned to dip the dogs in gasoline and set them on fire and using them against their opponents. Robyn Urman, a pet rescuer in New Jersey with Pet ResQ Inc, was contacted by Mervat Said, an animal rescuer in Egypt, about puppies Cleopatra, Cairo, and Egypt. This is not the first time this has happened, and not all the dogs were rescued. Now Urman´s group is trying to find a loving home for the dogs. Cleo
Environmentalists have galvanized behind a movement to resurrect wolf populations in rural America. Public support, particularly from urban regions, appears to favor the idea of returning this iconic symbol of the wilderness to America’s rural landscapes. (snip)In Catron County, New Mexico, aggressive Mexican gray wolves are terrorizing residents. Here wolves are killing pets in front yards in broad daylight, and forcing parents to stand guard when children play outside. The threat has become so ominous the local school district has decided to place wolf shelters (kid cages) at school bus stops to protect school children from wolves while they wait
Sergei Lavrov said samples taken from the scene of the August 21 attack, which killed nearly 1,500 people and sparked a diplomatic crisis that saw the US face off with Russia over military intervention, matched those of an earlier incident in Aleppo in March. “Russia, at the request of the Syrian government, investigated [the March 19 incident] and the results of this investigation are broadly available to the Security Council and the public. "The main conclusion is the type of sarin used in that incident was homemade, and we also have evidence that the type of sarin used on Aug.21st
A mentally challenged Florida man who had saved up for months to purchase a copy of "Grand Theft Auto V" was robbed of the video game as he left a GameStop store this week, police report. After buying the game Tuesday afternoon, Rohan Dawkins was approached in a Delray Beach parking lot by a couple who pulled up in a car. After asking Dawkins for the time, Tommy Davis, 27, grabbed the bag containing the best-selling game, which was released this week. When Dawkins sought to retrieve the item, Adele Jones, 25, allegedly kicked and punched the 21-year-old Dawkins, according to
Syria has moved 20 trucks worth of equipment and material used for the manufacturing of chemical weapons into neighboring Iraq, the Lebanese daily Al-Mustaqbal reported on Sunday. The government in Baghdad has denied allegations that it is helping the Syrian government conceal chemical stockpiles. The report came just a day after the United States and Russia struck a deal stipulating that Syrian President Bashar Assad´s regime would destroy its chemical arsenal to avert an American military assault. The newspaper reported that the trucks crossed the boundary separating Syria with Iraq over the course of Thursday and Friday. Border guards did
UPDATE: Turns out this is not from John Cleese, though it has an Aristotelian authenticity that causes me to leave it up anyway.(snip) The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.” The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody
The images of three youths police say murdered Melbourne baseballer Christopher Lane have emerged. The Oklahoma teens, who face first-degree murder charges, have been named as Chancey Luna, James Edwards and Michael Jones, News.com.au has reported. But their parents yesterday protested their innocence. Jennifer Luna, whose son is suspected of firing the fatal shot, claimed her son was at home saying: "My son is not that way. My son is a good kid." Earlier today, former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer has urged Australian tourists to boycott the US in the wake of the shooting murder of the Melbourne baseball star.
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
