| In college football, the only time it pays to be No. 1 in January is when the final polls of the season are released. But the Texas A&M Aggies are certainly abuzz, thanks to CBSSports.com’s Dennis Dodd. On Tuesday, Dodd released his 2013 preseason power poll. Never mind that the college football season doesn’t start for eight months. He has the Aggies as his No. 1 team. Yes, Texas A&M. Even though Alabama won the national title and proved that they reload in Tuscaloosa, not rebuild.

As ESPN´s resident college football guru and former all star quarterback, Lee Corso, is fond of noting......."Not so fast, my friend."
Keep in mind Texas A&M´s "Johnny Football" will be without the services of last season´s 6´6" 310 pound left tackle, Luke Joeckel, the 2012 Outland Trophy Recipient in 2013.

We´ll see - I believe the Aggies host Bama in the second game of A&M´s upcoming season. And Bama is out for revenge after losing to A&M.

Only Notre Dame encourages its players to have mythical girlfriends. And when the truth leaks out, the ND athletic director tells the player not to comment on the matter. (That´s what the ND AD did on December 26 with Teo)
And, just a quick point - sports reporters, in 2008, acually went to Alaska to check out Sarah Palin´s sports history. How about that?? But they couldn´t bother to check for an obituary for the mythical girlfriend of Teo...

And Teo´s imaginary friend supposedly was a Stanford volleyball player...but he didn´t have time to meet her when ND played at Stanford in 2011. Hmmmmm.....

# 6...Guarantee it.....Not to minimize the butt kicking the Tide was on the wrong end of this year in Tuscaloosa, but there were other variables. The Tide was coming off a street fight game with LSU in Baton Rouge, where LSU is 30-1, the previous Saturday night - They won in the final seconds on... "the drive"...and were drained. Johnny football is beyond belief but so is a revenge ridden ´Bama squad with Nick and Kirby Smart at the helm. W/A ...Love A&M, but love the Tide more, and they will be #1 at year´s end, methinks....Aggie57 must be proud.

A&M played three really quality teams last season, and lost to two of them.
I have no doubt that A&M will be top 10 quality going in to next season. But I just don´t see them winning it all (even though I would be really happy if they did).

Ohio State and Notre Dame are both overrated as usual. Watching both of them get blown out in bowl games never get old.

It´s a fun read and a balanced analysis -- thank you, OP, for this one.
This kind of unfortunate and premature forecast is usually the KISS of DEATH,
though.
That was my first thought before reading it.
Think of the Sports Illustrated cover photo jinx.
And the six losses by USC, last year´s preseason number one. Talk about crash and burn.
Yet... No question A & M is pretty impressive.
Their dismantling of the Sooners in the Cotton Bowl after a holiday layoff...
looked pretty easy due to a very strong team overall on offense and defense.
A & M toyed with ´em. Who´d a thunk it?
The "Folk Hero" (Johnny Football) with
one more season like that last one may elevate to the next level...
"Folk Legend" ...
We will stay tuned on TV, for sure.
I may get to see him and his team play in person in an SEC game, too... Hope so.

Didn´t Dodd pick Southern Cal to be number 1 in 2012 led by their superstar QB Matt Barkley. Hah, how did the whole Sun Bowl go for you Trojans. Alabama is number 1.

The former president was on hand Wednesday night when the new 2013-2014 Houston Texans Cheerleaders squad was announced — and he looked mighty pleased to be there. Roberts Elementary recently welcomed new neighbors when a parliament of baby owlets and their mom (or dad) nested up in a tree outside of the Texas Medical Center-area campus. They must have taken a few wrong turns on the way to nearby Rice University. CultureMap reader Annie Kansas brought her camera along in the carpool line and snapped a few portraits of the new family, which has been "creating lots of excitement" among teachers and students at the school.

A lawsuit filed last week in Harris County claims the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People did not pay its bill at the downtown Houston Four Seasons Hotel for its 103rd Annual Convention in July. The hotel claims it is owed $99,500 for room, banquet and finance charges. The convention, most notably recognized by national media as the event where Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney drew loud boos for his health care reform views, was held July 11 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement
