Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, NBC’s veteran newsman Tom Brokaw called for a “holistic” approach to addressing gun violence, and said that remaining silent on the issue is akin to not speaking out during racial segregation in pre-civil rights America. (Snip)“It reminds me a lot of what happened in the South in the 1960s during the civil rights movement,” Brokaw explained. “Good people stayed in their houses and didn’t speak up when there was carnage in the streets and the total violation of a fundamental rights of African-Americans as they marched in Selma, and they let
Um, Tommy, who was it exactly that stood in the way of the civil rights act? Who was it exactly that was firehosing people in the street? Who was it exactly that was setting fire to black churches? Admit that it was democrats and clean up your own house first. Start with the welfare dependency you created which is causing all of the inner city black deaths and then maybe we´ll listen to what you have to say. Or not.
Someone needs to ask Tom Blowchow who exactly has prevented him from doing stories on the gun violence that´s happened every day in Chicago and New York and Detroit and Philidelphia and LA and etc, etc. for the last few decades!!! The silence is on the part of Party hacks and knee-pad urinalists like Blowchow who won´t tell you that the problem in in democrat strongholds. Urinalists like Blowchow who will gladly pee on yer head and tell you it´s just raining.
Brokaw´s been part of a decades-long practice among the MSM to report every incident of gun violence they can scrape up, no matter how vague the details are, no matter how far away it might have occurred. (And to ignore every incident where someone lawfully exercising his/her Second Amendment rights prevented a violent crime from taking place.)
They never seem to note that a foreigner who commits a violent act here is an illegal immigrant, and they never seem to note that gun violence involved illegal guns. So gun ownership, itself, is at the root of all violence, all gun owners are threats to law-abiding citizens, and there is no moral distinction between legal or illegal...
Brokaw´s been a leader in this Leftwing propaganda machine for years. No surprise to find this latest excremental reflection by him.
Thanks Tom Brokaw, for providing more proof that journalism has devolved into the dumbest profession on our planet. Comparing attempted violations of our US Constitution rights to the civil rights movement is dumber than dirt.
This is pure propaganda and BS. Alot of the earliest gun control laws were expressly designed to keep blacks from ownin guns to fight back against the KKK. And if I was a black man confronted by a gang of sheet heads intent on my lynching I sure as heck would want more than a 10 round magazine!
FTA:Good people stayed in their houses and didn’t speak up when there was carnage in the streets and the total violation of a fundamental rights-------It seems tom is making the case for The oppressed to have guns.
"and said that remaining silent on the issue is akin to not speaking out during racial segregation in pre-civil rights America"
Don´t know where you were back then Tom, but nobody was silent. Intergregation said my six year old had to get on a bus, travel from a surburban area across town to a ghetto to keep the gov happy. Needless to say, I had to pay for private school.
Trust me, Mrs King laughs all the way to the bank about her cheating husband becoming a martyr.
Jonah Goldberg devotes a column to the foundational lies of Obamacare with special attention to the third — the one that promised billions of dollars in savings. “This lie took several forms,” Goldberg notes, and looks at a few of them, all of them false. “Obamacare may have been sold on a trinity of lies,” Goldberg concludes, “but it turns out it’s also lies all the way down.” Goldberg’s column is well timed to coincide with the recognition accorded to the first of the foundational lies of Obamacare — “If you like your health plan, you can keep your health
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), the ranking GOP member of the Senate Budget Committee, said Thursday that Senate Republicans plan to filibuster the budget deal that House Budget Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) cut with Senate Budget Committee chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA). The deal passed the House 332-94, with 62 Republicans and 32 Democrats voting against it. The bill is expected to come up for votes in the Senate early next week, either Monday or Tuesday. The type of filibuster Sessions spoke of is not the traditional “talking filibuster” like the one Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) launched earlier this
ARLINGTON, Va. — On a chilly airport tarmac in Washington, D.C., the four daughters of Air Force Col. Francis Jay McGouldrick Jr. stood hand in hand yesterday, waiting for their father to come home. He’d been gone since Dec. 13, 1968, when he disappeared after a midair collision with another aircraft over Laos’ Savannakhet province. His girls were ages 4 to 13 at the time. Since then, they’ve waited in a strange sort of purgatory, never certain that he was gone. Delta Flight 938 from Atlanta touched down at 10:50 a.m. and slowly rolled up to Gate 19. The girls,
The House on Thursday approved a two-year budget deal that turns off $63 billion in sequester spending cuts, handing a major victory to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio.). Large majorities in both parties backed the bill in a 332-94 vote. Only 62 Republicans defected despite harsh criticism of the deal by conservative groups that said it did too little to cut spending. Heritage Action, the Club for Growth and other groups said they would negatively score votes in favor of the legislation, but those threats failed to create a stampede against the bill. Instead, members rallied around Boehner, who had strongly pushed
TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Country Music Hall of Fame member and country music legend Ray Price, 87, plans to leave East Texas Medical Center in Tyler on Thursday to go to his home in Mount Pleasant where he will be provided with hospice care. Price, who is best known for his country classics, including Release Me, Crazy Arms and For the Good Times, has been battling pancreatic cancer since 2011. Since then, the disease has spread to his liver, intestines and lungs, even with aggressive treatment. Price and his wife, Janie, who have been married for 45 years, made the
HOUSTON - "Affluenza," the term used by a psychologist to argue that a North Texas teenager from a wealthy family should not be sent to prison for killing four pedestrians while driving drunk, is not a recognized diagnosis and should not be used to justify bad behavior, psychologists said Thursday. The term was popularized in the late 1990s by Jessie O´Neill, the granddaughter of a past president of General Motors, when she wrote the book "The Golden Ghetto: The Psychology of Affluence." It has since been used to describe a condition in which children — generally from richer families —
WASHINGTON — The House moved toward passage of a bipartisan budget accord on Thursday evening that is intended as a truce in the spending battles that have paralyzed Congress for nearly three years, as leaders in both parties sought to marginalize hard-line conservatives opposed to any compromise. With bipartisan support in hand, Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio declared open warfare on the outside conservative groups that have tried to scuttle the budget deal. For the second day in a row, he accused groups like Club for Growth, Heritage Action and Americans for Prosperity of reflexively opposing a reasonable plan
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
Fox News host Megyn Kelly has made herself the center of a racial controversy by declaring that Jesus Christ and Santa Claus are white. On Wednesday night, Kelly was responding to an article by Slate writer Aisha Harris, who wrote an article entitled “ Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore .” The popular news host told viewers of “The Kelly File,” her hit FNC program, “When I saw this headline, I kinda laughed and I said, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it´s racist to have a white Santa.’ And by the way, for all you kids
Views of the tea party are at all-time lows in a new poll, as primary challenges to establishment Republicans continue to heat up Washington. Just 30 percent of Americans view the tea party favorably in a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, the movement’s lowest point since Gallup began polling about it during its rise in 2010. Also in a first, a majority of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, at 51 percent. Similar numbers of respondents described themselves as proponents or opponents of the tea party: Twenty-two percent identified themselves as tea party supporters, while 24 percent said they
