| U.S. presidents should not be sworn into office with their hand on a Bible. At Monday´s inauguration of his second term, President Barack Obama will raise his right hand and place his left on not one, but two Bibles: One owned by Abraham Lincoln and the other by Martin Luther King Jr. The Constitution requires he give this oath of office: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."
|
Comments: This idiot Obeidallah points out that there is no constitutional requirement, but - as much as I´m sure he would like to do so - 0bama is too politically savvy to take the oath without using the Bible.

In essence, Obama will be taking the Lord´s name in vain. He will not be held guiltless.

Wikipedia says Obeidallah:

As I´ve posted before, it would be more appropriate if Obama took the oath on a stack of Golf Digest magazines.

It doesn´t matter what he swears on if he has no intention of defending the Constitution--which he doesn´t.

Placing one´s hand on the bible while swearing to support and defend the constitution and laws of the country signifies that you are making this commitment not only to men but to God. If your commitment is only to the human political order, you are implicitly a tyrant. That is, you recognize no higher power, no ultimate order of the universe beyond the political order which you now command. In other words, the symbolic import of doing away with the Bible is to make government God. This is exactly the agenda of the left. If he were honest, Obama would not use the Bible just as he has removed any legitimate clergy from his inaugural ceremonies and filled it with gay poets. But obama is not honest and will use the prop to fool people who want desperately to be fooled.

When taking an oath it used to mean swearing to tell the truth "so help me God"!
Obama will again be testing God to see if He will do anything about his actions. Let him be assured that God´s Word is final. He will be held accountable for his actions.
God has been very patient with Obama, giving him many opportunities to prove his faith/trust/dependence upon Him alone.
Obama has proven he is not a Believer.
Obama comes against just about everything God stands for.
Pray for America.
We are held responsible for those we place in power. Obama continues to prove his dislike for God´s will/way, somehow thinking he is above all of US, and God will not challenge him.
Satan has empowered Obama to steal/kill/destroy through abortion, homosexuality, and seizing control of all that we hold dear - not ruling according to our Constitution.
Obama is making US dependent upon him instead of him being dependent upon God to lead/guide him as he "humbly" listens to the cries of the people in this country.
Pray for America!
God is not mocked. What we sow, we will reap! Obama is not God. He is only a man, like all of US.
God has been very patient with US. Will we continue to test His patience?
America needs to repent, seek God´s Word, let Him rule/reign in our hearts/minds/souls/spirits as we make a stand for Righteousness which we once valued/treasured/observed in our daily lives.
As Obama swears in on a Bible, may we Believers hold our Beloved Bibles, praying for Obama´s conversion - "whatever it takes" for him to know/believe in the only One who is able to lead America to our true geatness!

Nobody should swear on a Bible.
But that´s not the point Obeidallah is making in this poorly digested and oft-regurgitated appeal to deny public office holders their constitutionally-defended right to express and attempt to live-out their faith.
Secularism qualifies as a religious category, itself, just like zero is a number and atheism is a belief system. Those who suggest coerced secularism in this country are enemies of the Constitution.

NØbama shouldn´t swear on a Bible simply because he doesn´t believe in the Bible or anything that it stands for. Any time he touches a Bible, it is simply a photo op for him.
A copy of ´´The Communist Manifesto´´, or a biography of his personal heroes, Lenin and Marx, would be much more appropriate and honest for this swearing in.
I would say he could use the Constitution, but he already used his copy for toilet paper. And it wouldn´t be very honest for him to touch that document that he doesn´t believe in either.
But future presidents who do believe in God and the Bible should certainly have that right and honor to do this mandatory swearing in by promising to protect and defend the Constitution (the 2nd most important document in history) while holding his hand on the Bible (the 1st most important document in history)...

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says he´ll "probably" make a decision about running for president sometime in 2015. The Republican, who is seeking a second term in November as governor, has taken heat recently for appearances with President Obama and former President Bill Clinton. Christie said on MSNBC´s Morning Joe program that he´s not concerned with how appearances with high-profile democrats might affect his political future. "My job is to do my job," Christie said, as he defended his appearance last week at the Clinton Global Initiative

James O´Keefe is back to muckraking, with a new book and fresh "Obamaphone" scandal as the "Ashton Kutcher of the Conservative movement" reaffirms his commitment to guerilla journalism. Having paid his debt to society after his 2010 arrest, he is now ready to pick up where he left off in his crusade to expose corruption in the halls of power, beginning with footage that shows shady practices in the government-subsidized cellphone program. On Monday night, family, friends from his Rutgers days and members of Team O´Keefe squeezed into a club in West SoHo

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) has signed her name to an effort to draft Hillary Clinton into the 2016 presidential race, becoming the first sitting member of Congress to do so. The Ready for Hillary super PAC announced McCaskill as its latest big-name supporter on Tuesday morning. McCaskill in 2008 supported President Obama over Clinton in the primary, but said earlier this year that she hopes Clinton will run again. “Hillary Clinton had to give up her political operation while she was making us proud, representing us around the world as an incredible

A National Rifle Association television ad targeting Democratic West Virginian Senator Joe Manchin for his work with President Barack and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to draft new gun control legislation uses a shaded photo of the African-American president that makes him appear darker and, according to some critics, more sinister. In the ad, Bloomberg´s face appears to be shaded, as well, but much less dramatically than the president´s Obama´s darker appearance in the ad is being compared to a controversial 1994 Time magazine cover

A host of Republicans considering 2016 presidential bids, including Florida Gov. Marco Rubio, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Texas Gov. Christie was invited to speak at the Faith and Freedom Coalition´s two-day "Road To Majority" conference in Washington, Republicans with knowledge of the invitation said. Christie´s team declined, citing a scheduling conflict. Instead of visiting the conservative confab, the New Jersey governor

If there’s one thing we know about Americans, it’s that they love a winner. By extension, they can be very tough on those who don’t. I’ve often wondered whether that’s why so many people seem unwilling to give Jimmy Carter his due. Yes, Carter was president of the United States during four tumultuous years, 1977-’81. He had his share of crises to deal with: 52 Americans held hostage in Iran, the Soviets invading Afghanistan, stagflation, lineups for gasoline around the block thanks to a squeeze by the OPEC nations, not to mention Three Mile Island and the petty scandals

The controversial filmmaker whose crude Internet trailer was wrongly blamed by the White House for sparking last year´s deadly Benghazi attack vowed to finish his movie, which he said is aimed at fighting terrorism, not denigrating Islam. Breaking his silence from inside a facility under the authority of the federal Bureau of Prisons in southern California, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula told FoxNews.com in a series of phone interviews that his film "Innocence of Muslims" has been widely misunderstood, and not just in being singled out as causing the Sept. 11, 2012, attack

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Five months into his second term, allies and enemies are as confounded as ever about who President Obama really is. Is he the dyed-in-the-wool liberal that his biggest supporters and critics suggest? Or is he a pragmatic, even cynical, politician who cares more for his popularity than taking risks for his ideological goals or living up to his rhetoric? Even in the short period since his reelection, Obama has provided evidence to support conflicting interpretations. His efforts to pass immigration reform, the unsuccessful push for stricter gun controls and tax hikes on high earners buttress the case for Obama-as-ideologue.

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Politico’s Playbook has an excerpt from a new Ryan Lizza piece from the New Yorker that is not yet online. It contains a passage on the back-and-forth between labor and the Chamber that has a quote from a Rubio staffer that is going to raise eyebrows, to say the least: “There are American workers who, for lack of a better term, can’t cut it. There shouldn’t be a presumption that every American worker is a star performer. There are people who just can’t get it, can’t do it, don’t want to do it. And so you can’t obviously discuss that publicly.” Here is the entire context:

Iran is preparing to send 4,000 troops in to Syria to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the wake of America´s announcement it will be providing ´military aid´ to the country´s Muslim rebels. President Barack Obama made the pledge earlier this week after the U.S. claimed it found ´conclusive evidence´ Assad´s regime has used chemical weapons against the rebel forces--which includes the most extreme Sunni Islamists--and has called for Britain and France to back the move. While Britain hasn´t made a guarantee either way as yet, more than 350 Royal Marines are being sent to Jordan
