More than 8,000 New York City school bus drivers and matrons went on strike over job protection this morning, leaving some 152,000 students, many disabled, trying to find other ways to get to school. Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said the strike started at 6 a.m. Wednesday. About 200 bus drivers and bus matrons were assembled on picket lines in the Queens section of the city. ´The first days will be extremely chaotic,´ Walcott told 1010 WINS radio. ´It hasn´t happened in New York City in over 33 years.´ The union did not immediately return calls

The litte skool chirrun with their stuffed bookbags and backpacks wide eyed and eager to return to class surrouding his majesty as he signs the next $800 billion stimulas payoff to the bus drivers union. All because the republicans in Congress can´t compromise as some don´t want see our children have a chance at getting a decent education.

The strikers are all members of a local union with a long and recent history of mob ties. The strikers all work for private bus companies, are not NYC employees, and have no labor agreement with NYC.
The strikers want NYC to guarantee their jobs, since the school bus contract is ending soon, and the City is about to solicit bids for new contracts.
A totally illegal strike. How can the union possibly demand NYC guarantee the jobs of employees of a private company?
They should terminate the existing contracts for cause, and solicit new non-union contracts.
I guess Obama´s illegal recess-appointed NLRB commissioners will be working hard to resolve this travesty.

Well as long as their lunches are low fat and they don´t drink too much soda, why should Bloomberg care. Besides, if kids really do get educated, it would be bad for the democrats, and they know it.

When the bus drivers in my district threatened a strike, moms quickly set up carpools. The bus drivers heard about it and decided not to strike. But then we´re more independent people out in flyover country and we own personal transportation which makes all the difference.

Have you noticed how driver´s unions and teacher´s unions never ever strike on their own time? They always have to screw the kids over. When it comes to a choice, liberals always seem to be about hurting the children and not themselves.

Let´s see if I understand this. In NYC, 8000 drivers have been hired to assume the obligation of parents to get their children to school.
No wonder our government entities are broke, inefficient, and, in my opinion, nothing more than criminal enterprises, while parents shirk their duties and expect their neighbors to pay the bill.

What else did you expect from union thugs, the very idea that you want a level playing field that would reduce the massive yearly tribute to the thugs, in New York, not even close to reality.
The scum unions would lose that fight every time because it is all about money and power to hell with everything else.
Unions like this is the very reason that they are hated by the real working class. Once a very time ago unions were a good thing for the working man, then they decided that politics were more important than integrity, jobs and the membership and became thugs and nothing was more important than the power. That is why the unions are fighting so hard now because they are fading out and that would mean the the union people would have to compete and actually work for a job.
The union leadership would lose their plush offices and power and of course that would be unacceptable so they buy the corrupt politicians and try to get thru law what they know they will never get from the people.

Yes #10 and the fact that the good teachers remain silent and don´t say it from the rooftops also speaks volumes. To Democrats (including the parents of the school kids) the "children" come first except when they need to be used to get goodies for the unions.

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate."
