| The debt limit must soon be increased, and President Obama insists that Congress give him the ability to borrow without any accompanying budget reforms or spending cuts. He argues that only a long-term, "clean" debt-limit bill is responsible fiscal policy, and that anyone who disagrees risks government default and a financial catastrophe. Republicans are balking—not the first time members of the opposition party have balked when a president seeks more borrowing authority. The usual response—threatening to block an increase unless they get what they want—is not very effective. The GOP´s attempt to do so will most likely fail.

I agree with most of Hennessey´s suggestions, except the one that lets short-term increases pass with a few necessary Republican votes. I say no Republican should vote for anything without serious spending cuts - period. If the gov´t shuts down, all the better.

The problem with this strategy, like most other Republican strategies, is that it requires a public "shaming" factor (out of control spending) which the MSM works mightily to overcome and even distort. They would frame the frequent votes over the debt limit as a waste of time and the Republicans as "foolish" for bringing it up over and over.
As for BO, he has no shame and is willing to spend the Country into massive debt. He won´t care about the votes. The same issues were presented in the election and BO won. The public supported him and his out of control spending. What would be different now? Do you think the masses will all of a sudden develop a sense of fiscal responsibility? Not likely.

Can´t the house pass a bill tomorrow protecting social security and medicare from cuts in the near future placing the ball in the dems and the regimes court. Any threats to these programs could not be traced to the gop then. But ,of course, the msm will make sure it does. Do not raise the ceiling. Instead make some serious cuts. The taxpayers are getting sick of this nonsense.

Pubs "standing up" for their principles is becoming more reminiscent of Wimpy paying for his hamburger. They´ll fight - "next time". This is why many of us have given up on them.

RUSH: According to latest CNN poll, Obama´s job approval is down from 53% in May to 45% now. Approval of his handling of the economy is down 2% to 42%. On foreign affairs Obama´s down five points to 44. On illegal immigration, Obama´s disapproval is up to 56. And only 49% of respondents say Obama is honest or trustworthy. You know, this polling data, this is huge, folks. We haven´t seen this before. We have not seen this kind of intense evidence of Obama losing approval, losing popularity, and losing support.

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.
