| In the midst of 44 lawsuits challenging the Obama administration’s mandate that every employer cover the cost of abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception, President Barack Obama issued a religious freedom proclamation on Wednesday. The proclamation begins by saying, “Foremost among the rights Americans hold sacred is the freedom to worship as we choose.” But it does not talk about the free practice of religion, which plaintiffs are fighting to defend in litigation across the country. “Because of the protections guaranteed by our Constitution, each of us has the right to practice our faith openly and as we choose,”

See, requiring payment of the "Jizyaa" was standard practice in Arab conquest countries, the rendering of which solidified the "dhimmi´ status of the non-believer.

FTA: "The Catholic Association, issued a statement Wednesday that said the president’s proclamation reduced religious freedom to freedom of worship, rather than the free exercise of religion.
“This distortion of our nation’s first freedom is the justification for the HHS mandate and the reason that 44 separate cases now have been brought against the federal government,” Maureen Ferguson, senior policy advisor for The Catholic Association said.
“The Constitution guarantees Americans the right to practice their faith 24 hours a day, seven days a week, whether at church, home, school or work.”

I shopped at Hobby Lobby yesterday and bought a non-sale item, something that is almost against my religion. I spoke to the manager and voiced my support for the stand HobLob is making against the government. I was interested to learn that HobLob does not see that they have lost their case. And, the 1.3 million $$$ fine is NOT racking up. They are rewriting their insurance policy. I was concerned the Green family would close the stores and the manager said Mr Green realizes the employees need their jobs and store closure is not on the table. He reiterated that Mr Green felt it was wrong to pay for something (morning after pill) he feels is morally wrong and should not be forced to do so by the government.

Sheldon Whitehouse has apologized for remarks Monday in which he linked Oklahoma "cyclones" to climate change while berating Republicans for their stance on the issue -- around the time a massive tornado killed dozens in that state. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed).
