NEW YORK — Conrad Bain, a veteran stage and film actor who became a star in middle age as the kindly white adoptive father of two young African-American brothers in the TV sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes,” has died. Bain died Monday of natural causes in his hometown of Livermore, Calif., according to his daughter, Jennifer Bain. He was 89. The show that made him famous debuted on NBC in 1978, an era when television comedies tackled relevant social issues.

Wow. Only Willis is left.

Those old shows that I used to like as a child are so depressing now that I know what perversions and depredations these kids´ souls were/are exposed to.

I´m just like Mr. Drummond. I´m responsible for 2 blacks abandoned by their family, except instead of Willis and Arnold, my 2 are named Auntie Zituni and Uncle Obango.

#2: who woulda thunk?!
Not too long ago, Willis was odds-on favorite for the Dead Pool.

Never heard of him. Never watched the show. It strikes me as one of those grainy, ´80s era productions.

"... in 1978, an era when television comedies tackled relevant social issues...." and began their downhill slide.

We never watched this program.

WASHINGTON — Say what you want about President Obama but you got to give the guy credit. He finally discovered the holy grail for dislodging the bloated ranks of federal workers from their jobs. Force them into Obamacare! According to a report in Politico Thursday, lawmakers and their staff all over Capitol Hill are heading for the exits. Turns out, they can endure the toxic air of politics, slavishly long hours, dinky offices and lecherous lawmakers creeping up and down the halls. But one thing they simply will not abide?

Black Conservatives Rising: @Large

The @Large Conference held recently in Baton Rouge, Louisiana brought people together from around the country to discuss issues related to black conservatives. In a time when the GOP is talking ´outreach´, the conference was an important first step in the Republican party reclaiming its heritage as the party of individual rights, colorblind justice and equality of opportunity. The panelists and speakers also showed that many black conservatives are right in line with the new generation of Republican rabble-rousers like the late Andrew Breitbart, pushing against the radical left and the GOP establishment with fierce conviction.

Former Representative Colonel Allen West, a staunch fighter against Islamists, was infuriated by Bill Cosby’s op-ed in the weekend’s New York Post advising Americans to be more like Muslims. West tweeted on Monday: “2day in NY Post, Bill Cosby said we should b more like Muslims, U mean honor killings, beheadings, suicide bombings? Hope ur kidding sir.” Cosby had written this: I’m a Christian. But Muslims are misunderstood. Intentionally misunderstood

McCain against the "Wacko Birds"

The debate was over, but John McCain wasn’t done. After he threw down with a trio of younger Republican colleagues he has dubbed the “wacko birds,” McCain proceeded to walk around the Senate floor, ranting about the interchange to individual senators. McCain was incensed that Senators Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Mike Lee have been blocking Democratic majority leader Harry Reid from appointing Senate members to a conference committee for the budget resolution. During the debate, McCain “basically accused Lee of being an idiot,” as one aide put it.

A less-than-surprising look into the world of workers’ rights reveals that one union boss is under fire for either being too fat, too lazy, too over-paid or on too many painkillers (from being too fat), depending on who you ask. Mark Rosenthal, president of Local 983 of District Council 37, is accusing political rivals of trying to run him out of his $156,000-a-year-plus-perks job overseeing about 3,000 low-paid workers and officers involved in the Parks Department and NYPD, The New York Post reports.

After a good amount of hoopla, Texas Governor Rick Perry is expected to quietly sign legislation allowing public schools to celebrate Christmas and other winter holidays plainly and explicitly without fear of lawsuits. The proposed law, dubbed the “Merry Christmas Bill,” sailed easily through both the Texas House and Senate and now awaits the Perry’s signature, reports the Dallas Observer. Vote tallies were 145-2 in the House and 29-0 in the Senate. With Perry’s signature, the law will take effect beginning in fall 2013 — roughly 120 shopping days before Christmas.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
