Meese: Obama Could Be Impeached
If He Uses Executive Order
For Gun Control

Real Clear Politics, by Ian Schwartz

In an interview with Newsmax, former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese III, who served under President Reagan, says President Obama could be impeached by Congress if he enacted gun control through executive order. MEESE: It should be remembered that the president cannot by executive order do things that affects the public at large unless there is some Congressional basis for it. In other words, some Congressional authority he has been given. An executive order without specific Congressional authority can only apply to those portions of the government that are under his control. In their words, the executive branch.

Comments:
Yes he should, but sadly it won´t happen with the number of Democrats in the Senate.

One can only hope that The Marxist orders the Executive Branch to become a gun-free zone. Now, one can conjure with that concept!

#0, It doesn´t matter how many democrats are in the senate because impeachment happens in the house. The senate only convicts. That´s why Clinton will done in the history books as one of two presidents who have been impeached. Obama may be the third.

Reply 4 - Posted by: sardonic, 1/16/2013 12:02:25 PM     (No. 9120040)

It will never happen because of who controls the Senate and even the questionable cajones of many Republicans. It would, however, be a fun exercise to bring impeachment charges up against the "Won" in the Congress if for no other reason than to watch little Chrissy Mathew´s head explode.

It´a all about the house and we control the house.

Or...do we ?

Reply 6 - Posted by: PeoplesRepublikNY, 1/16/2013 12:12:59 PM     (No. 9120070)

The House draws up articles of impeachment ("charges") and then votes on referring those articles to the Senate for a trial. The Senate does not impeach; that is the House´s responsibility.

I´m surprised the House hasn´t already taken the steps towards impeachment, given Barry Soetoro´s contempt for the laws of the land, and his utter disregard for his sworn duty to support and defend the Constitution.

Reply 7 - Posted by: TheMom, 1/16/2013 12:16:09 PM     (No. 9120077)

So impeach him already. Let´s get this show on the road.

How can they impeach him if he isn´t legally able to be President? Just add this to the long list of Obama crimes.

Reply 9 - Posted by: TXknitter, 1/16/2013 12:31:46 PM     (No. 9120113)

If we had a different Speaker of the House, yes, impeachment would be in order and perhaps pursued. I do not fool myself that Republicans have the courage or intelligence to do any more than threaten it, however.

Reply 10 - Posted by: killerbee, 1/16/2013 12:34:39 PM     (No. 9120125)

I thought it would happen back in 2012 when it was so clear that he was engaging in criminal activity (Fast and Furious, Benghazi, Solyndra, and more), but now I have no faith in anything. The GOP is useless, the media is stacked, and people are just getting dumber and dumber. We are living Idiocracy.

Reply 11 - Posted by: Veritas2009, 1/16/2013 12:43:19 PM     (No. 9120154)

Meese misses the main point. Democrats showed the effective way in 1974. Get the AG first, then John Mitchell, now Eric Holder.

Reply 12 - Posted by: jimmiet, 1/16/2013 12:54:19 PM     (No. 9120193)

The government of the people has become the government against the people. It´s the 2nd amendment that insures the others. Our government has failed to protect the currency, private property, and individual freedoms guaranteed by the constitution. We are now faced with fight and maybe remain free or succumb and become slaves.

#8, please stop harping on non-issues. Yes, I agree that Obama´s qualifications for becoming president are questionable. But continuing to push the "birth" issue, which has already been discounted by a majority of Americans, only undermines our own credibility. Let´s focus on mounting an effect fight over what he has and would do.

Reply 14 - Posted by: Hotrod, 1/16/2013 1:29:37 PM     (No. 9120294)

I may be wrong but I just can´t belive that the majority of elected democrats really want to see a dictatorship. Executive orders are not to be used to defeat the checks and balances in our government, not to advance unconstitutional action by the government.

Reply 15 - Posted by: dman, 1/16/2013 2:40:28 PM     (No. 9120450)

Impeached, but not convicted. Pee-ing in the political wind.

Reply 16 - Posted by: Penney, 1/16/2013 3:13:22 PM     (No. 9120533)

Even back in the olden days, ...when the USA had AG´s of personal integrity and profound respect for the U.S. Constitution, Ed Meese stood out as among the very best legal minds in the country and among the most faithful to America´s Rule of Law and his oath of office. He knows what he is talking about and the GOP Congress critters should heed his wisdom.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

America´s 100 million cable and satellite subscribers are forced to pay ever-higher bills for a growing number of channels they do not watch. The American people are being ripped off. Meanwhile, services such as iTunes and Netflix have led a revolution in how consumers purchase and experience music and video entertainment. They have upended entire industries to allow consumers to buy digital content where they want, when they want. Amid all this change, two entrenched interests — the cable television and video programming industries — have teamed up to use federal regulations to stack the deck against consumers.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama is a little uneasy with the way journalists have been dragged into the Justice Department’s aggressive pursuit of national security leak investigations. In fact, he has ordered Attorney General Eric Holder to conduct a 45-day review of the department’s guidelines on the issue. That bit of news was buried in the middle of the president’s hourlong speech today at National Defense University. “Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs,” President Obama said. “Our focus must be on those who break the law.” And then the news: “I have raised these issues with

Anthony Weiner’s nascent mayoral campaign is off to a rough start. Weiner made his candidacy for mayor of New York official in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, and since then there’s no indication that the process is going particularly well. The former rising star in the Democratic Party can’t shake the scandal that forced him to resign from Congress, and he may be throwing fuel on the fire. Asked this morning whether there was another shoe to drop in the sextweeting scandal that ousted him, Weiner admitted, Well, yeah.

White House press secretary Jay Carney could only explain his problems on Wednesday by telling reporters, "[T]here are a lot of you, and you´re good at your jobs and you´re smart." As easy as it might be for Carney to lob such insincere praise at former journalistic colleagues, such posterior osculations must be embarrassing for a White House so accustomed to having the press in its back pocket. Carney´s job has become more difficult in the past two weeks. Where his explanations were accepted at face value in the past, he is now met with deep skepticism. Suddenly, the

WASHINGTON – First she refused to testify. Now Lois Lerner, the IRS official at the center of the agency scandal, is refusing to resign, according to a top Republican senator. Sources confirmed to Fox News earlier Thursday that Lerner, the head of the IRS division that oversaw the unit targeting conservative groups, had been placed on administrative leave, with pay. But Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, claimed she was only put in that status after refusing to step down. He said the commissioner was in his right to demand her resignation, and said taxpayers

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
