Joe Manchin fears a full-court-press from the media on gun control, according to the leader of a gun-rights group who met with him Tuesday afternoon in his Charleston, W.Va. office. Writing on Facebook, West Virginia Citizens Defense League president Keith Morgan described Manchin’s reaction when he contended that Congress would not renew a federal-level “assault weapons ban” or create new limits on the capacity of ammunition magazines. Yes #1, let´s show these pictures as a response. Also, let´s show pictures of the dead women and children who could not stop predadtors in the home because they had no weapon. Then we´ll show the dead and mutilated bodies of those that were tortured and killed by tyrannical dictators in countries where they first confiscated guns from the people. And finally, we can show photos from the Holocaust as the end game--what eventually happens when dictators can´t be stopped by an armed citizenry.

I think it would be much more effective to show photos of those who survived because they had a gun. Just one great example, the mother and her two children who survived an attack recently.

I think it would be nice if the good senator heard from people all over - frequently - asking why he is contradicting the clear conclusions of the Supreme Court regarding the purpose of the Second Amendment, and why he is supprting measures he KNOWS are ineffective because he fears being criticized by the media in a crude and disgusting manner. I think that would be a very suitable question to ask, everywhere he appears.

This is shameful. If someone in that building had more than office supplies to use against this mentally ill evil person maybe less carnage would have resulted. When he jiggled the handle on the door a few bullets aimed at his head might have stopped the whole thing.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden met with three people at the White House Tuesday who are in the country illegally but received “deferred action” that allowed them to stay in the country under a memorandum issued by administration unilaterally last June in a memorandum issued by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. In all, Obama and Biden met with eight people advocating for comprehensive immigration reform on Tuesday, according to White House readout of the meeting. WASHINGTON - Republican Representative Darrell Issa said on Thursday he will call Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner back to testify before his committee on the IRS-Tea Party scandal after she asserted her constitutional right not to answer questions. "We are obligated to bring Lerner back because she did not properly take the Fifth (Amendment)," Issa said. UnitedHealth, the nation’s largest private insurer, will not participate in California’s Obamacare health exchange, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday. Health insurance giants Aetna and Cigna will also opt out of Covered California, the state agency charged with implementing Obamacare. All three insurers will still provide health insurance through large employers in the state. Kaiser Permanente, the largest health insurer in California, will work with Covered California, as will Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California. Together, these two companies already control 87 percent of the state’s individual health insurance market.

One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
