Newark — The jobs of 34 Star-Ledger employees — including nearly 10 percent of the newsroom — are being eliminated in the first large-scale layoffs in the history of the state’s largest daily newspaper, publisher Richard Vezza said this morning. Eighteen part- and full-time staffers in The Star-Ledger´s newsroom of 195 employees are expected to be laid off today, along with 16 positions in other departments. The totals include 19 full-time employees and 15 part-time positions. In a letter posted shortly after 8 a.m. today throughout the newspaper´s Newark offices, Vezza called it a difficult day,

Publisher blames "financial pressures" (caused by the type of government they demand we have) and Superstimulus Storm Sandy ("the dog ate my homework"). Not a factor to them: no one is willing to pay for leftist, race-baiting propaganda.

Move reflects actions at other Newhouse publications around the nation. The sooner they vanish down the drain, the better.

Why bother with staff. Most of the time the news is simply written to reflect their liberal agenda with little or no attention to the actual details.

Down with the press and the media. They have no credibility anymore after they abandoned the American people. My local fish wrap subscription is in it´s last months and their crush on Obama will be rewarded with non-renewal. Everyone should do the same thing.

They needn´t worry. I am sure that Obummer will have them all on SSDI as soon as their long term unemployment pay runs out! After all, aren´t they his little soldiers in the fight for progressivism!
And with food stamps, ObummerPhones and all of the other welfare goodies, they will soon be making nearly $60,000 tax free! Why work when it pays not to work!

Newspapers haven´t figured out that the people most likely to be interested in (and pay for) their products are the ones they insult on a daily basis.

No need to tell you folks from elsewhere that the Star-Ledger is an extremist, leftist rag.

I´m sure you already guessed that.

You have to wonder about leftard mentality. The literacy rate amongst Makers is much higher than the rate amongst Takers, yet these idiots insist on insulting them.

To help this newspaper, someone should publish the names and addresses of those still employed, as a "public service."

Meet Mr Poo: The lumpy, brown anthropomorphised faeces that is the face of Unicef´s latest public health campaign in India. Accompanied by an insanely catchy techno-Bollywood-style anthem, Mr Poo features in a very silly and surreal new video aimed at raising awareness of the health dangers associated with public defecation in India. Though the video is light-hearted; the issue is a serious one. Globally, India has the largest number of people, more than 620 million, still defecating in the open. Only about half the population of the country use toilets. According to the Poo2Loo campaign, which is supported

Ed Balls, the shadow chancellor, is being investigated by police after he crashed into a parked car and then drove off without informing the owner. Trenton — The law firm hired by Gov. Chris Christie´s office that cleared him and current staff aides of any wrongdoing in the George Washington Bridge scandal donated $10,000 to a national political group the governor currently heads, according to a published report. The Record reported late Tuesday night that Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher gave $10,000 to the Republican Governors Association — nine days before it released a report that cleared the governor in last year´s controversial lane closings at the bridge. Although critics called the report a "whitewash," Christie said the firm´s lawyers have reputations to uphold and wouldn´t

Police are investigating three recent attacks in the city they believe are part of the “knockout" game, in which an unsuspecting person is attacked for no reason with the goal of knocking the person out with one punch. The three attacks this month have occurred in the 700 block of Main Street, the area of 87 Millbury St. and on Chatham near Main Street. (Snip) Police said all three male victims were walking alone when they were approached by a male they did not know. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Less than a minute into his speech at the Boston marathon bombing memorial on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden went tragically off script and told the crowd of Boston bombing survivors that "it was worth it." After expressing how impressed he was with the tribute, he said somberly, "let me say to those ´quote survivors,´ my God, you have survived and you have soared. It was worth it. I mean this sincerely - just to hear each of you speak. You´re truly, truly inspiring." Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
