Second term offers new
role for first lady

The Hill [Washington DC], by Emily Goodin

Michelle Obama is expected to spend her second term in the White House as a champion of the same issues she advocated for in her first, but with an added twist — the first lady could become the most prominent female figure in her husband’s administration. With Hillary Clinton leaving the State Department — and no high-profile woman replacing her or other departing Cabinet members — Michelle Obama, known for her commitment to health and her chic fashion style, is entrenched as the most famous woman in the administration. Her rise comes at a time

The media is honestly going to try to push this broad off on us as a viable candidate in four years. Book it.

#1 is correct. Hillary is too frail to run. And, Michelle has a built in voting block.

She really is the obvious choice for the Dems, since they value style over substance.

Ah, the DNC´s media campaign for President Mooch is starting even before Obama is sworn in for 2nd and hopefully last term. If Obama cannot issue an executive order repealing the 22nd Amendment, expect the Mooch to be spending her time in Iowa, New Hampshire and Florida. "We can´t stop going forward. Barack Obama wouldn´t allow that. Now I need your help to keep us from going back."

first of all, Michelle is Beloved by the Press not the masses. She is a clothes hog, spend thrift(Especially if it is OPM) and loves being on camera. I am so tired of seeing her face everytime I turn on the TV. Enough is enough! I never see an article about Valerie Jarrett who is the most important person in the administration and who was never vetted. BO can´t go to the bathroom without her. This article is fluff.

"her chic fashion style" -- Who writes this stuff. Michelle is a horrid wretch in fashion and style; everything she wears is too small, too flashy, and horribly nonfashionable. I am usually really embarrassed for her and feel bad that we have such an ignorant first lady with no common sense.

Something is going on in the Obama household.
"Squatch" has been eerily absent from the limelight since the election.

Hogwash. I assume that "going global" means she will travel constantly on some vague "mission" in order to spend incredible amounts of taxpayer money on herself and her entourage. She will establish her home at the Hawaii W.H. and "go global" from there.

Save yourself the effort of reading this piece-of-pap article. It´s all summed up in this sentence:

"In the end, what Michelle Obama does next is up to Michelle Obama."

Oh, the gravitas!

Of all the photos I have seen of this woman, the only one where she actually looked good and resembled anything close to a First Lady was the recent Vogue cover. That fushia dress was very nice. The rest of the time she is pictured wearing clothes that look like she either cut up the sofa for dress fabric, or raided her daughter´s closet. Don´t even get me started on the box of kleenex dress she wore to the last inaugural ball. Fashion chic she ain´t.

Slightly off-topic, but I read an excellent piece in the Wall Street Journal a day or two ago about how Michelle Obama could use her very real (and newly earned) influence by moving away from obesity and food to leading an effort to emphasize the importance of a two-parent home for children. This isn´t a black or white or welfare issue, but applies to all layers of society. Too many babies are born out of wedlock, have mothers who have no time for them, are abandoned by uncaring fathers, are isolated from the nurturing environment of an intact family. She won´t do it, of course, because of the influence of the gay lobby, the women´s groups, but it´s a shame. She has a national image now that could be put to real benefit.

Barack Obama is President. Biden is VP. Hillary Clinton was S 0f S and will be followed by John Kerry.

Hegel. Eric Holder. Valerie Jarrett. Et. al.

In the national nightmare that is present-day doomed America, anything is possible.

"Chic fashion style"?! With her gathered waist house dresses and tiny cardigan sweaters she looks more like someone who needed to dress from the Salvation Army clothing bins.

On Tuesday morning, a plane owned in trust by the Bank of Utah showed up in a very visible area of the Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. What was it doing there exactly? Nobody knows, reports The New York Times. Under President Barack Obama, the United States has eased some of the long-standing punitive economic sanctions against Iran. Still, very little American — or European — economic activity is allowed inside the religious theocracy. The Bank of Utah is certainly no Wells Fargo. The Ogden-based community bank has all of 13 branches including

MOKPO/JINDO, South Korea — Divers searching for survivors of a capsized South Korean ferry saw three bodies floating through a window of a passenger cabin on Saturday but were unable to retrieve them, the coastguard said, hours after the ship´s captain was arrested. The ferry, carrying 476 passengers, many of them schoolchildren, and crew, capsized on Wednesday on a journey from the port of Incheon to the southern holiday island of Jeju. Some 174 people have been rescued and hopes were fading for those still missing. The divers saw the bodies in a submerged cabin where many of the children

With the Chicago weather finally getting a little nicer, Chris Anderssen wanted to grill some burgers outside for a group of family and friends. When she got to the meat aisle at her local Jewel-Osco supermarket, a case of sticker shock made her change the menu: extra lean ground beef was $4.99 a pound. "Five adults, four teenagers, that´s a lot of hamburger to buy," said Anderssen, a 42-year-old mother of two who works as an office manager. She bought chicken instead for $2.99 a pound. Retail beef and pork prices reached all-time highs last month, according to Bill Hahn, agricultural

TOPEKA, Kan. — If expanding the guest list to include Michelle Obama at graduation for high school students in the Kansas capital city means fewer seats for friends and family, some students and their parents would prefer the first lady not attend. A furor over what the Topeka school district considers an honor has erupted after plans were announced for Obama to address a combined graduation ceremony for five area high schools next month an 8,000-seat arena. For some, it was the prospect of a tight limit on the number of seats allotted to each graduate. For others, it was

Is Harry Reid unpopular enough to become an election issue for races nationally? A GOP incumbent in North Carolina is trying to find out. Stuart Rothenberg reports in his Roll Call blog: The 30-second spot, titled “Meddling,” accuses Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., of “trying to fool Republican voters, meddling in our primary to get a weak opponent for Kay Hagan.” (Video) The North Carolina Senate race is rated Toss-up/Tilt Democrat by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call, in part, because of uncertainty in the GOP primary.

Some advice for Democratic candidates from consultants: Don´t use the word "recovery" in your speeches. Associated Press: Election-year memo to Democratic candidates: Don´t talk about the economic recovery. It´s a political loser. So say Democratic strategists in a blunt declaration that such talk skips over "how much trouble people are in, and doesn´t convince them that policymakers really understand or are even focusing on the problems they continue to face." In addition, Stan Greenberg, James Carville and others wrote that in head-to-head polling tests the mere mention of the word "recovery" is trumped by a Republican assertion

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
