| Five Gulf Coast states have over 1,000 laws that allow prosecutors to target people with criminal sanctions over rather minor infractions related to the environment and outdoor living, a new study shows, even in cases where the accused did not cause any harm or knowingly break the law. “The labyrinth of vague offenses fails to put individuals and businesses on notice as to what conduct is prohibited, leaving those in such industries with the unenviable choice of curtailing productive, job-creating economic activity or taking a risk of being branded a criminal,” Texas Public Policy Foundation

Comments: And how many people are even aware of these travesties before they are entrapped in the overreach of government. Another day another outrage. This is what you get when you have too many bureaucrats in Washington who pump out ridiculous, burdesome regulations.

More and more laws are written to turn ordinary citizens into criminals. Gun laws and regulations as well as environmental rules are not well constructed and leave way too much room for interpretation. It nothing less than the typical liberal approach to anything they don´t like - criminalize the activity.

It´s not overreach, it´s control, pure and simple. If the government has some kind of beef with one of these companies or individuals it makes it easy to close them down. The rules are designed to be impossible to comply with.

In the news tonight was a story about an old lady that killed a child in a hit and run, then took the car to a body shop to have the damage repaired to cover it up. The shop did the right thing and turned her in. The Judge slapped her with $125K restitution, a $1K fine and sentenced her to 5 years house arrest ... meanwhile Enviro-laws have stiffer penalties! Is this a screwed up nation or what???

Where is the conservative network of activists and attorneys who are fighting to defend these people, repeal these regulations, and fight them in court?

My son and his friend went fishing this weekend. Same place for the pass 2 years. They were arrested for fishing in a restricted area (there were no notices posted). Handcuffed, car towed and spent night in jail. It cost 1300 for son (his car towed) and his friend 1000. Crazy stupid and this is in Texas.

We the People own the public land.
Time for Congress to impeach 0 for his unconstitutional activities. Time for the Supreme Court to find 0 an ineligible pResident, remove him from office and nullify the reams of unconstitutional regulations he and his fellow commies keep on spewing.

This is not a free country and hasn´t been one for over 70 years. But the last 30 have become the most repressive.

What do you think all those Nazi FEMA camps are for? My only surprise is that FEMA isn´t building ovens next to them. Or are they?

The tyranny of the minority was probably abstract thinking at one time but now it´s a reality.
I hear ads on the radio all the time about getting into the forest. Maybe it´s a trap to fine people.

The way to prevent abortionists like convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell from occurring again is to build more Planned Parenthood clinics, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said at a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on Thursday about legislation that would prevent abortion after 20 weeks nationwide. “I would urge my colleagues to think about the extent to which he, Dr. Gosnell, represented the poor quality of health care services available in poorer communities,” Nadler said at the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice hearing. “We should be working to make sure that high quality

House Speaker John A. Boehner on Thursday flatly ruled out chances of the House passing the Senate’s immigration bill, saying his chamber will debate its own bill instead. The Ohio Republican and his top lieutenants in the party issued a joint statement that seemed designed to tamp down some of the momentum behind the Senate bill, which emerged from a committee on a bipartisan 13-5 vote this week, and to stake out a House GOP position. “While we applaud the progress made by our Senate colleagues, there are numerous ways in which

During friendly questioning from Rep. Hank “I fear that Guam will capsize!” Johnson in Congress last week, Attorney General Eric Holder offered the following statement. In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material. This is not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy. He made that statement before the facts about the sweep on Fox News’ James Rosen were known. Since then, it’s come to light that Holder himself approved the subpoena that, among other things, named Rosen as a criminal co-conspirator.

As the saying goes, scratch a liberal and you’ll find a tyrant underneath. NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo is but the latest example. He shoved a very restrictive and ill-considered gun law through the state legislature in the dead of night. Among its flaws, the law criminalized police officers who tote firearms with magazines that hold more than seven rounds. Sheriffs around the state have objected to the law. Cuomo summoned them to the state capitol under what appears to be a false pretext, and used the meeting to threaten them into silence. Cuomo invited

The National Council of La Raza (translation: The Race) has partnered with the Office of Personnel Management to encourage Hispanic activists and members to burrow into the federal government. A workshop sponsored by La Raza/The Race will take place in New Orleans on July 23, 2013. Senior Executive Service (SES) employees are federal government employees in special executive management positions, often with salaries approaching $200,000 per year (and well past that with benefits). OPM, a federal government agency, is cooperating and partnering

What a fantastic talent liberals possess, the ability to talk out of both sides of their mouths. One side utters platitudes about campaign finance reform and the nefarious influence of money in politics, while the other whispers in the ears of oligarchs and plutocrats. One side slanders Republicans as the tools of corporate interests, while the other solicits donations from some of the largest corporations in the world. The next journalist to examine influence peddling on K Street need only walk two blocks south, to H Street.

President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden met with three illegal immigrants who have been granted deferred action legal status in the Oval Office Tuesday. Meanwhile, Obama still refuses to meet with any border security enforcement officers about any aspect of immigration reform. “From Justino Mora, Angie Kim and Mehdi Mahraoui, to Diana Colin and Kevin Lee,” a White House blog entry reads, “all of the stories they shared were full of hope and optimism that one day their family members and their broader communities could realize the dream of becoming citizens of a country that

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose
