NRA: Membership Has Grown
by 250,000 in One Month

U.S. News & World Report, by Lauren Fox

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 1/15/2013 1:43:31 PM

A day before President Barack Obama is scheduled to release Vice President Joe Biden´s recommendations to curb gun violence in the United States, the National Rifle Association told U.S. News and World Report that they have seen membership grow by 250,000 in the month since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. (Snip) Politico reported membership had grown by more than 100,000 five days ago. The NRA says that when Politico reported the story, membership was close to 200,000, but the number has drastically grown in just five days.

Comments:
This has to infuriate 0bama and his corrupt regime.

My son (22), my mother (75) and myself (52) are going to buy guns next week to add to our modest selection. These uneducated and very foolish liberals know not what they have stirred in this great nation. Interesting times.

I renewed my membership for three years (after I let it expire in 2008) - and I don´t even own a gun (yet.) I´ve always enjoyed the NRA´s First Freedom magazine.

#7: Agree re the magazine.

For those not yet members, there are three NRA magazines to choose from -- 30 round, 50-round, and-- gotcha! Just kidding!

New York´s new state law has a provision making it a crime to own a gun with a greater than 7-round magazine. It is being said that one doesn´t need a larger magazine (even the old 10-round one) for self-defense. Does that mean that Governor Cuomo and Nanny Bloomberg will order their security details to carry guns with a no greater than 7-round capacity? I mean, if that´s sufficient for self-defense shouldn´t they lead the way?

There are about 800,000 law enforcement agents in the US. 250,000 pro-gun right members ( in one month) is HUGE.

I renewed my membership in the NRA just this week--for two years!--after having let it lapse for a while. I don´t own a gun. I don´t have any personal interest in guns. But I believe that it is the right of every law-abiding American to defend him- or herself against intruders who would do harm to life or property.

Since the election of November 2012, I´d sooner support organizations like the NRA than the GOP. The NRA sticks to its guns--literally and figurately. You cannot always count on the GOP to do that.

Dems? It would be a cold day in hell before I´d support a Democrat.

I´m a lifetime member and just gave the NRA a donation.

Many gov´t police members are also oath-takers and may or may not be NRA members. Oath-takers have taken an oath to not support govt actions against citizens defending their 2nd amendment right but will instead will protect the citizens and their rights.

Here´s another thought. No matter how small the NRA membership may be, there are still far more gun owners in the country that just those who are NRA members.

I think I just heard a statistic that 70% of the public owns guns and there six guns for every citizen.

If push were to come to shoving, I think the gun owners would unite.

Pray for impeachment.

re #37: For those not familiar with the organizations, both Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership and Gun Owners of America do some good work.

re seminar poster #13: OK, what about numbers? "Oddly," it´s difficult to get numbers on CAIR´s membership, except that there are many citations from 2007 discussing how its membership declined by 90% or more after 9/11/2001. It seems they have fewer than 2,000 members, maybe fewer than 1,000 today; and that their budget [maybe $3 million?] is covered by fewer than 2 dozen donors. So, anyone want to compare the relative coverage of CAIR and the NRA to their relative membership sizes? How about you, #13?

Obama administration’s ‘Culture of

Sending scores of armed agents along with helicopters and dogs to confront an elderly Nevada rancher over grazing fees may seem like overkill, but critics say it’s not inconsistent with the federal government’s recent approach to environmental enforcement. The simmering truce between the Bundys and the Bureau of Land Management comes after high-profile raids last year by armed federal agents on small-time gold miners in tiny Chicken, Alaska, and guitar makers at the Gibson Guitar facilities in Tennessee. That doesn’t include more subtle threats, such as recent efforts by the Obama administration to raise grazing fees or pressure permit holders to

Congressman: Obama ´Has Been Forced

Rep. Joe Garcia (D-Fla.) is among the Democrats pressing Congress to take up immigration reform. On Tuesday, he told a conference call that deportations are breaking families apart and leaving children in foster care. "So the human toll has been horrific. This president, by implementation of existing law, has been forced to deport a huge number of Americans." Although Garcia may consider the deportees to be "Americans," legally they are not. But they might become citizens if Garcia and other immigration advocates get their way. Democrats are urging Republicans to sign their discharge petition, which would force a House vote on immigration reform.

Key members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform expressed outrage at revelations made in newly released emails showing ex-IRS official Lois Lerner coordinating with the Department of Justice on prosecuting nonprofit groups. One committee member said the emails prove why the IRS is “scared to give up the rest of Lois Lerner’s emails.” IRS commissioner John Koskinen was recently threatened with contempt for stonewalling the committee’s investigation. Koskinen claimed in a hearing that it could take years to provide the documents requested by Oversight. “The release of new documents underscores the political nature of IRS Tea Party targeting and

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

Thank God for Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George. His investigation of what turned out to be the IRS abuse scandal may well have saved the Constitution and the nation. For his fair and impartial investigation into the Internal Revenue Service’s abuse of Americans who dissent from President Obama’s agenda, Democrats have called for an investigation of him. George should not be investigated, but perhaps the Democrats who want him investigated — Reps. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and Matt Cartwright (D-PA) — should be. Their call for an investigation of the investigator might constitute interference with the ongoing investigation

Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as
