Teacher Fired for Giving Student Bible

A longtime substitute teacher in Phillipsburg, NJ, has been fired after he shared a Bible verse with a student – and upon request gave the child a Bible. (Snip) The Phillipsburg School Board voted Monday night to terminate the employment of Walter Tutka. He was accused of breaking two policies – distributing religious literature on school grounds and another policy that directs teachers to be neutral when discussing religious material. “It’s unfortunate the Phillipsburg School District chose the path of religious hostility and intolerance against a retired man serving his community and simply responding to a

But it´s okay if you worship at the altar of 0bama and spew forth propaganda. They probably would have celebrated if he shared a verse from the Koran. This makes me sick.

I agree with #2. And I am equally aghast at schools that allow prayer rugs and foot baths and whatever, so that muslims can pray.
There can be no religious accommodation for the gutter religion of Islam. And don´t tell me about peaceful muslims. They are nowhere to be found.

Oops - one more thing. It is possible to use bible verses as literature and philosophy, and it is also possible to compare the bible to other religious tracts, such as the koran. But the examination of those has to be in the context of literature, philosophy, morality.
(Matthew 18 - toiling in the vineyard - is a good example.)

If anyone cares to do a bit of research, you would find that our founding fathers were "all about" the God of the Bible and would be rolling over in their graves today if they would see this secular immoral culture run roughshod over the freedoms Americans have to personally quote Bible verses in schools! If the humanists can quote their "evolution" religion in programmed class setting... at the least, we should be allowed to quote Bible verses!

When they remove prayer from the halls of congress before sessions, then... I may give ear to you hypocritical Bible haters voicing your demonic tripe about people quoting Bible passages and handing out Bible in public schools!!!

I guess it would be okay then for teachers to share a koran verse with a student, and to give school children a copy of the koran?

To the trolls asking stupid questions
the answer is yes it would be fine to share a verse from the koran and give out one.... but having said that there He wouldn´t have been fired for giving out a verse of the koran and given a koran to the child. The 1st amendment covers all religions and for the trolls sake, there is no separation of church and state anywhere in the constitution what so ever just a made up law that is repeated over and over because of Thomas Jefferson´s PERSONAL writings... Why don´t we use all the founding fathers writings if we are going to cherry pick what was written by someone as a THOUGHT (Jefferson would have been roundly censored for trying to put that into the constitution and probably was).
What the founders wanted trolls is for there to be no REQUIRED state religion being forced upon us, and guess what we do now and its call secular humanism and it is being propogated daily but hey since its your religion you don´t even think about complaining.

I am failing to see how a substitute teacher giving a student a Bible--one of the Great Books, by the way--at the student´s request, on his lunch hour, is the "establishment of religion." Where does it say that the teacher wasn´t neutral in his discussion with the student? And the Bible is more than just "religious literature. " It is one of the Great Books of the world that has had enormous influence on art, literature, music, among many other "non-religious" pursuits.

This all happened at noon, during lunch break, not in the classroom on the government´s time.

In past years the Gideons could distribute Bibles to every student in a school, even in class. Then they were forced to stand on the sidewalks before/after school. I don´t think the man should be fired since there is no evidence that his behavior had any impact on his teaching. This is a knee-jerk reaction and unfortunately it is the default position of schools today.

However, I am uncomfortable with anyone in school distributing religious literature without the knowledge of parents. I would not want a Jehovah´s Witness or a Scientology member to give out their propaganda. The man could have told the child that he would be happy to have the discussion after school, with his parents. The bigoted anti-theists still would not be appeased but at least this would have allowed the man to continue working.

The militant secularists´ demands through education, media/hollyweird/TV and among statist politicos are intensley targeted in their efforts to propagandize everyone, and especially America´s children. It is time that the silent majority quit being silent and to call these secular humanist/socialist/marxist for what they are!

Bill Clinton taught us in his Presidency to accuse your enemies of what you are guilty of - when the racist liberals start the racist labels, we should immediately point out that they are the racist! When the liberals accuse others of intolerance, immediately point out their intolerance! When the liberals begin their accusations of hate, immediately point out their hateful invectives!!! It is time that we start taking the gloves off as good ole Chuck Heston said, "... from my cold, dead hands!"

Sending scores of armed agents along with helicopters and dogs to confront an elderly Nevada rancher over grazing fees may seem like overkill, but critics say it’s not inconsistent with the federal government’s recent approach to environmental enforcement. The simmering truce between the Bundys and the Bureau of Land Management comes after high-profile raids last year by armed federal agents on small-time gold miners in tiny Chicken, Alaska, and guitar makers at the Gibson Guitar facilities in Tennessee. That doesn’t include more subtle threats, such as recent efforts by the Obama administration to raise grazing fees or pressure

Rep. Joe Garcia (D-Fla.) is among the Democrats pressing Congress to take up immigration reform. On Tuesday, he told a conference call that deportations are breaking families apart and leaving children in foster care. "So the human toll has been horrific. This president, by implementation of existing law, has been forced to deport a huge number of Americans." Although Garcia may consider the deportees to be "Americans," legally they are not. But they might become citizens if Garcia and other immigration advocates get their way. Democrats are urging Republicans to sign their discharge petition, which would force a House vote on

Key members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform expressed outrage at revelations made in newly released emails showing ex-IRS official Lois Lerner coordinating with the Department of Justice on prosecuting nonprofit groups. One committee member said the emails prove why the IRS is “scared to give up the rest of Lois Lerner’s emails.” IRS commissioner John Koskinen was recently threatened with contempt for stonewalling the committee’s investigation. Koskinen claimed in a hearing that it could take years to provide the documents requested by Oversight. “The release of new documents

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

Thank God for Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George. His investigation of what turned out to be the IRS abuse scandal may well have saved the Constitution and the nation. For his fair and impartial investigation into the Internal Revenue Service’s abuse of Americans who dissent from President Obama’s agenda, Democrats have called for an investigation of him. George should not be investigated, but perhaps the Democrats who want him investigated — Reps. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and Matt Cartwright (D-PA) — should be. Their call for an investigation of the investigator might constitute interference with the ongoing investigation

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as
