Rush: New Milford, Connecticut. Bill, thank you for calling. (Snip) Rush: Back to this story from January 8th in the Irish Examiner by Alicia Colon. It´s America´s leading Irish newspaper. Never heard of it. Some great points raised in it nevertheless. This is a pull quote: "When it comes to who makes up the base of the party, the GOP establishment is as low-info as those who voted for Obama." I don´t know who this woman is, but she´s dead-on right. Earlier in the program I made the point that the way to understand what's happening in the media, Inside-the-Beltway today, right now, at this moment in time,
Comments: Having no "shame," I am posting this only because Rush mentions our Alicia Colon. Just happened to be listening when he did. Great segment for women [especially GOP]. The dRATS prunes will never learn.
Dear Rush, I love you, but I can´t believe you don´t know who Alicia Colon is. Are you getting lazy? We here at Lucianne certainly know, and greatly admire Alicia. I am concerned about your lack of knowledge . Alicia is one of our most articulate conservative voices. You really need to read Lucianne more!
Absolutely, one of the top three reasons Romney lost is that he never defended Bush.
Obama blamed *everything* on Bush, and Romney never defending Bush from any of it made Romney look like a wimp, and tarnished the Republican brand twice, from Obama´s idiotic accusations and from the failure to defend against them.
The media always telegraphs who they fear and hate. Why conservatives and/or republicans stand silently by while they let the leftists media dems attack and bully one of our own i.e. Sarah Palin and her family has always been a mystery to me.
Boy, I am glad Alicia wrote this and Rush jumped in and said what I have felt for so long. What the Republicans have let the left do to Justice Thomas, Bork, Palin, West and next up is Cruz and Senator Tim Scott is beyond disgusting. But Governor Palin - that has been the worst. Either the party gets its act together and starts defending our conservative stars or they will end up in the dustbin of history.
Sadly, this is W´s least admirable legacy. One and the same with "New Tone" and "civility", meaning: Democrats can scream and call you the spawn of satan all they want, but please don´t expose them or you´re a mean, selfish person. Letting the Left set the standards for public discourse is never a politically productive way to go. I remember W handing the Left Rumsfeld´s head, and the GOP refusing, almost to a man, to stand up and defend Sarah Palin countless times. Or allowing the MSM to illegally lie and cover-up for Obama with total impunity, since at least 2008. New Tone = defeat, because it denies the truth about what is happening.
Any politician who has ever gone after the press and the left has soared in ratings--but no one can keep it up. Everybody has a vulnerability and the left knows how to find it and exploit it. It is very dangerous to be a conservative in this country today.
I keep hoping that someday someone will be immune, but I don´t think it´s ever going to happen. I may just decide to take up some useless hobby and stop thinking about politics at all.
The left is using every single issue to brand conservatives as a handful of hangers on,in the face of a rapidly changing demographic they´re not willing to accept.
The demographic shift has nothing to do with race but the behavior of the group which gladly accepts government handouts as a way of survival. There´s no way republicans can win the war on handouts and that´s the problem.
The left knows money is the ultimate trump card and so they´ll print, borrow or tax to keep the voter feeding tube happy.
By Obama borrowing money, instead of offsets through taxes, not enough people feel the pain to rebel. What Obama is doing is paying a credit card bill with a line of credit from another card.
Millions of people have got caught in the downward spiral of credit card roulette themselves,so they know how it works but they also know there´s a time limit somewhere when you hit a brick wall.
Liberals are short term thinkers. If they can see their way clear for 3 months,6 months or a year, they´ll take it and worry about what happens when the time gets there.
The point is people are fabricating what´s wrong with republicans when the fact is,there´s nothing. We´re just up against a juggernaut of liberal spending.
Good to see Alicia Colon getting some recognition. She´s one of the good ones, like Steyn, Sowell, Barone, Goldberg, Krauthammer, Wiil, Hanson, and some others I could name. You don´t see her byline and pass by the piece. You just don´t. No greater compliment in my book.
I too heard Rush yesterday - he mispronounced Alicia´s last name the first time he said it, then corrected it on the next go around. I was tickled pink for our Alicia! And I agree 100%. Ramona (the Pest)
Yes, we should defend our own. I am a nobody, always have been, but I did defend to the best of my ability, Nixon when everyone was running for cover leaving him alone, also Speaker Gingrich when the Democrats were bringing all the charges against him. I was angry that Republicans were not rallying around him. On this site I have defended Boehner (not a popular stance) Romney, and others because they are our guys and need our support.
This site has seen postings vilifying Republican office holders, particularly in Congress. Let´s not be holier than thou. Failure to defend runs rampant right here.
#17, you´re right, but then don´t be fooled by Rush either. He spent the greater part of 2012 pitting the the Pubbies against each, with his constant disdain for the so-called " Republican establishment." This is where the Demos outshine us---they don´t participate in circular firing squads. They *unite* in public *for the good of the party* and keep their bitter disagreements behind closed doors. The media baits the GOP continually on this, and we willingly take the bait and fight each other for a chance to distance ourselves from our own attacked colleague & grandstand on TV. It´s our Achilles´ Heel and I guess we´re too dumb to figure it out.
Rush also knows there´s is no such thing as ´our own.´ We don´t have a party. He spoke of this at the open of his Monday, Jan. 14 show. It shouldn´t be news but he said the GOP establishment and Obama want the same thing, which is to eliminate all signs of conservatives and conservatism from the scene. That´s why Obama can do what he wants because he and the GOP have the same enemy. The GOP wants to beat conservatives more than they want to beat democrats. This is why there´s no coherence. If you say the wrong thing you´ll get reamed out by Ed Rollins or Karl Rove from their Fox News bully pulpit. Ed Rollins on FOX News reamed out Rush last summer. Rollins said Obama and his team were good guys the same as the GOP, the GOP just wanted more freedom to do some things (approx). Rollins said Rush Limbaugh is gonna criticize us for saying Obama´s a good guy but that´s what we think. Then Jeb Bush ran a shadow convention for himself during Romney´s RNC. George Bush was even quoted over the summer criticizing the Romney campaign and giving it little chance of succeeding. After the 2008 election, the GOP barely existed. We the people tried to bring it back, but the establishment wouldn´t let us. Now Boehner ally LaTourette is raising money for 2014 to support Republicans willing to compromise. The group will also fund Democrats. Is anyone getting the message here?
For some of you posters - For the past few weeks, Rush has been on a ´low information voter´ kick, and has occasionally imitated them by being - or pretending to be - a low-information radio talk show host. He´s done it on purpose and I feel certain that´s what he was doing. He´s quoted Alicia before, and the Irish Examiner, and certainly knows and remembers both. Rush has a much better memory for names and facts than I do.
There is another aspect Rush did not mention -- we not only do not defend our own, we even join the left in attacking them. This is particularly true during election years, when conservatives and moderates both see those who do not support their particular chosen candidate, and those conservative candidates who oppose their chosen candidate as enemies who must be utterly crushed and destroyed. The four-year long campaign (some of it waged here) against Sarah Palin comes to mind.
As for Rush stating that he´s unfamiliar with Alicia Colon, I am sure that some of her writings have been included in the digests that Rush´s staff prepares for him, and undoubtedly he has quoted her, but apparently she did not loom large on his event horizon, and even so, this is hardly an excuse to be snide about it.
I agree that we should unite behind our own. The Dems always circle the wagons to defend their own. The example is being brought up of opposition to Speaker Boehner. In this case the attacks are not coming from Democrats but from disappointed conservatives. It should be noted that conservatives support the republicans and are then taken for granted and shut out of the decision making. Speaker Boehner owes his position to tea party conservatives and then he says there is no substantial tea party in the House after purging them from leadership positions. I do not believe the opposition to Speaker Boehner is a valid example of conservatives not uniting behind their own!

Couldn´t beieve it when I heard Limbaugh say he didn´t know who Alicia Colon is or what the Irish Examiner may be. He´s getting lazy. As for Republicans, first we all have to admit we are Republicans and stop hiding behind, "I´m a conservative." You may be philosophocally a conservative, but we need a political party to get elected and govern. Get involved and get over it. Second, our talkers have made our politicians verbally and intellectually lazy. Our politicians let the talkers do all the talking while they hide under their desks hoping no one will ask them a question they haven´t done the homework to answer. Yes, the need to be out there defending our own, but we would be better served if they could just defend the Constitution... which they won´t because they are not prepared to do so.
Find it hard to believe Rush hasn´t heard of her considering he has been visiting lucianne.com and “borrowing” thoughts and opinions verbatim from lucianne.com posters for years (or at least he used to).
This Conservative will not unite behind the Moderate GOP, period. Now if they want to unite around us Conservatives, that, I will go for. The Moderates are just like the Left. They always want compromise as long as they get their way. Then when things don´t work out, if they are the Left they blame the GOP and if they are the Moderates they blame the Conservatives.
I doubt that Rush needs to "borrow" thoughts and opinions. The observation that he gives opinions similar to those on Lucianne doesn´t mean they are "borrowed". Many people can develop the same opinion spontaneously from their own information sources, without borrowing from someone else.
I wish the GOP were an opposition party. They fight their own conservative wing to retain power and money, just the same as the Dims. They love running Big Government and couldn´t care less about the Constitution, just the same as the Dims.
The GOP leadership are not stupid people, yet they constantly exhibit stupid behavior in issue management and legislative maneuvering, giving the Dims political win after political win. When Constitutionalist point out these stupid moves we are told to shut up and sit down (and while you´re sitting please write out a check.)
What principles does the GOP stand on? What is Boehner doing to fight Obama and the Dims that I can support? All I see is nonsensical bloviating and eventual acquiescence, or another "deal" that postpones whatever issue another few months.
If they were really committed to limited government, fiscal responsibility, and upholding the Bill of Rights they would know how to use the media, articulate the message, and reach a broader electorate. They don´t do it because they can´t; they don´t do it because they don´t want to.
When I see the GOP "leadership" start to actually push back on the socialists, then I might have something to unite with that has meaning. I´m not holding my breath.
I wouldn´t want to live in a place where a Rush Limbaugh couldn´t operate, but he grates on one´s nerves with his ignorance of things the rest of us take for granted. He´s more provencial than even he can imagine. Talk about Low Information!
I listen to the EIB network every day! Rush is awesome! He is not, as #40 whines, ignorant or grating! Thats ludicrous. Rush is on our side, one of us, and I dont understand the whining here. 3 hours every day, and Lucianne always and ever! You both rock! Thank you for keeping me sane in this insane Obama-loving world we are forced to endure....Without the two of you I´d go nuts!
Rush is right. This is the logical conclusion of the system put in place to push moderates over conservatives. You fight the good fight, and get told to go pound sand. The Moderate scourge in out midst act just like Democrats when cornered, and never, ever reach out to the right for any solutions. Easily predictable. I predicted it. Rush predicted it. It is not the conservative´s fault that the supposed "Electable" one is not electable at all. Cheers.
Please explain how it can be a good thing for Republicans to fight & destroy each other IN THE OPEN, IN THE MEDIA instead of behind closed doors, like the Demos. The issue is NOT that we all have to agree 100%, but rather WHERE we should do our bickering. I´d really like someone to answer THIS question, without being sidetracked.
#38, he did it verbatim to me the day before the 2006 midterms. Said a friend e-mailed him an article, didn´t give Lucianne credit, didn´t mention me at all. It wasn´t an article, it was my entire post regarding an article. However, I really didn´t care. No one can do what he does and I´m sure it´s tough to keep track of sources on the fly and on balance, he does a really good job most of the time. Should he know about Alicia? Probably but he really has said all the things Alicia said about "Death From Behind" conservatives like the entire staff at the Weekly Standard who destroyed Palin and Rush and anyone else who spoke the warning truth about Obama during the 2008 campaign. Now the Weekly Standard acts like they´re enlightening conservatives with their firm grasp of the obvious and four years too late brilliance ala Howie Kurtz.
If you are saying we should never discuss the positive vs negative qualities of a candidate before nomination even if you are a radio commentator then I say you are being unrealistic. Rush knows many of these candidates / GOP elected leaders on a personal level. I appreciate his insights on both conservatives and moderates in the GOP and I don´t look at it as criticism, but more truth. Do you want everyone to ignore truth? I cannot. I agree Alicia Colon´s columns are always an important read and I was glad to hear Rush speak about her recent posting here on Lucianne.
Montevideo - Uruguay´s Senate is expected to pass a law on Tuesday making the small South American nation the world´s first to allow its citizens to grow, buy and smoke marijuana. The pioneering government-sponsored bill establishes state regulation of the cultivation, distribution and consumption of marijuana and is aimed at wresting the business from criminals. Cannabis consumers would be allowed to buy a maximum of 40 grams (1.4 ounces) each month from state-regulated pharmacies as long as they are over the age of 18 and registered on a government database that will monitor their monthly purchases.
The political temperature in the Arctic rose on Tuesday when Vladimir Putin vowed to step up Russia´s military presence in the region in response to a claim by Canada to the north pole. In typically trenchant style, Putin told his defence chiefs to concentrate on building up infrastructure and military units in the Arctic. He said the region was again key to Russia´s national and strategic interests, following a retreat in the post-Soviet period. His comments were a direct and rapid riposte to Canada, a rival Arctic power. John Baird, said his government had asked scientists to work on a submission to the UN arguing
The phone call came from a charming woman with a bright, engaging voice to the cell phone of a TIME Washington Bureau Chief Michael Scherer. She wanted to offer a deal on health insurance, but something was fishy. When Scherer asked point blank if she was a real person, or a computer-operated robot voice, she replied enthusiastically that she was real, with a charming laugh. But then she failed several other tests. When asked “What vegetable is found in tomato soup?” she said she did not understand the question. When asked multiple times what day of the week it was yesterday, she complained repeatedly of a bad connection.
A porn performer who tested positive for HIV in Los Angeles is asking for privacy as the industry tries to determine the scope of the problem. "The performer deserves privacy and dignity at this difficult time, and we ask that our colleagues and the media respect the performer’s wishes for privacy unless he or she wishes to speak," the Free Speech Coalition, a porn industry trade group, said in a statement. The Free Speech Coalition said it was working to identify anyone who had sex with the infected performer. “We take the health of our performers very seriously and felt
In China on Thursday, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. spoke plainly about the role of a free press in a democratic society. “Innovation thrives where people breathe freely, speak freely, are able to challenge orthodoxy, where newspapers can report the truth without fear of consequences,” he said in an address to American businesspeople living and working there. He was speaking against the backdrop of China’s restrictive policies on reporting by foreign news organizations; the Chinese government has so far declined to renew the visas of nearly two dozen reporters from The New York Times and Bloomberg News as a consequence
Jerusalem - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided not to attend a memorial service for Nelson Mandela this week because it is too expensive to travel to South Africa, Israeli media reported on Sunday. Netanyahu had notified the South African authorities that he would fly in but cancelled his plans at the last minute due to the costs involved -- around 7.0 million shekels ($2 million) for his transport and security alone, pubic radio and the Haaretz daily reported. "The decision was made in light of the high transportation costs resulting from the short notice of the trip and the security required for the prime minister
New Orleans - Things traditionally get started a little late down here, an inclination that runs from mealtimes to political races. But with nearly a year to go before the 2014 election, it is already open season on Senator Mary L. Landrieu, Democrat of Louisiana. (Snip) As Democrats look across the rest of the South, the outlook does not get much better. Ms. Landrieu, along with Senators Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Kay Hagan of North Carolina, is pretty much all that is left of Southern Democrats in the Senate. All three are up for re-election next year. And the outcome of their races could determine whether the Southern Democrat,
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
